Chapter 869

"Stop chatting. Sell the fruits to him, then go next door to pack two buckets of water lilies. Make him hurry to the pavilion. Maybe Alexander can still make it to the potluck!" Edwin, still frowning, turned to pick the fruits.

Although Edwin had a stern expression, he meticulously inspected the fruits. Any slight imperfection would prompt him to remove them.

After buying the fruits and flowers, Stella and Alexander bid farewell to the Smiths.

As they walked a bit further, Alexander explained to Stella, "They have been selling fruits here since they were young. They have known Father Thomas for ages. When I was young, I didn't like potluck meals, so the Smiths secretly give me a lot of fruits."

"No wonder you are so adorable. It turns out you've been that way since you were a kid," Stella said with a smile.

Alexander was immediately amused.

After climbing the long steps, they arrived at the church entrance.

Upon hearing they were looking for Father Thomas, the church member Mason Parker became somewhat alert. "Do you have business with Father Thomas?"

Alexander replied gently, "I used to be Father Thomas's assistant priest. I heard that he has not been feeling well recently, so I came back to visit him."

"Assistant priest? I've never heard that Father Thomas had an assistant priest!" Mason's suspicion deepened.

"What's going on?" At this moment, Liam Mitchell walked out from inside.

Alexander heard the voice, hesitated slightly, then glanced over.

Liam's gaze immediately fell on him.

Alexander nodded slightly and called out, "Liam."

" Alexander?" Liam was momentarily stunned, then exclaimed in shock, recognizing Alexander's former title.

"Liam, long time no see. How have you been?" Alexander asked.

"Are you here to see Father Thomas?" Liam's gaze shifted to Stella.

"Hello, Father Liam," Stella greeted.

"She..." Liam looked at Alexander with a complicated expression.

Alexander nodded slightly.

Liam sighed. "Wait here. I'll inform Father Thomas."

Alexander said, "Thank you."

Liam turned and walked away.

Mason looked puzzled and asked, "Are you really Father Thomas's assistant priest?"

Alexander nodded.

"It's been a long time since you last came, right? I've been here for seven or eight years, and I've never seen you once!" Mason said.

"Ten years," Alexander replied.

"Ten years? That's quite a long time!" After Mason finished speaking, he suddenly remembered something. Then he looked at Alexander, his expression changing dramatically. "Alexander? Are you the Father Alexander who left the church for worldly pursuits and returned to society?"

"Yes," Alexander replied.

Mason was extremely shocked and then looked at Stella.

Was this the woman rumored to have enticed Father Alexander away, who had the most potential to inherit Father Thomas's legacy?

"Yes, it's me," Stella seemed to see through Mason's thoughts and replied softly.

Mason's embarrassment was exposed. His face instantly turned red. Then he found an excuse and hurried away.

"He's quite thin-skinned," Stella muttered.

After Liam left, it was more than half an hour.

Just when Stella was worried that Father Thomas might not want to see Alexander, she saw Liam returning. "Father Thomas said... he won't see you two."

Alexander had anticipated this response.

"Is it because of me? I can leave. Alexander really misses him. Please..." Stella hurriedly spoke.

Alexander gripped Stella's hand tightly, preventing her from finishing her sentence.

"Okay." Alexander nodded. "Please pass the fruits and flowers to Father Thomas."

Stella looked at Alexander with heartache.

Liam smiled and took them, saying, "I will."
