Chapter 1292

"Alright, everyone’s here, let’s get this show on the road," Lucian said, clearly fed up with the Durham family. He didn't even try to hide his irritation when Wyatt started chatting him up.

"Mr. Montgomery, what's the rush? Can't you wait for me?" A clear, melodic voice rang out from the doorway.

Lucian was momentarily stumped, trying to place the voice.

When the person walked into the conference room, Lucian's expression shifted.

"Isn't that Darwin's wife, the heir to the Rhoads family?"

"Wyatt's Darwin's best buddy. Of course, he's here to back him up."

"Are you stuck in the past? Wyatt got booted from the Solomon Group by Darwin ages ago over some woman."

The room buzzed with whispers.

Rose followed Fiona, scanning the large conference room.

On the way here, she had already figured out why they were here today.

The Durham Group, the wealthiest family in the capital, surprisingly had several women among its shareholders.

"Mrs. Solomon, I didn't know you were coming. Sorry for not welcoming you sooner!" Lucian quickly recovered, stepping forward to greet Fiona, extending his hand for a handshake.

But Fiona ignored him.

She extended her hand to Wyatt instead. "Mr. Durham, looks like you've gained quite a bit of experience out there."

Lucian's hand hung awkwardly in the air, his face twitching.

After shaking hands with Wyatt, Fiona turned to Lucian. "You must be Mr. Montgomery? You seem pleasant enough. Hearing your voice outside, I expected someone more intimidating."

Lucian quickly assessed the situation.

He knew he couldn't afford to offend Fiona, not with her connections to the Rhoads Group and the Solomon Group.

Gideon had let the Durham Group decline drastically, surviving only by relying on opportunities from other wealthy families over the years.

Back in the day, the Durham Group was above the Solomon Group!

But now, with the Durham Group in Gideon's hands and the Solomon Group thriving under Brooke, Lucian had to swallow his pride and bow to Fiona.

Rose stood behind Fiona, thinking Fiona was getting more arrogant and rude.

But Fiona was being intentionally impolite.

In situations like this, showing strength first gave you a better chance of winning.

She needed to make it clear to the Durham Group's shareholders who she supported and who she looked down on. When it came time to vote, even if only because of her presence, they would have to carefully consider which side to stand on and the consequences of giving their votes to others.

Which cost could they afford to bear?

As Janna often said, "With great power comes great responsibility."

"Maybe I spoke a bit too loudly just now, and Mrs. Solomon found it amusing," Lucian said with a forced smile.

Before he could finish, Fiona sat down in the seat on the left, another power move over Lucian.

"Mr. Montgomery, today I am here representing the Solomon Group and the Rhoads Group. Please refrain from calling me Mrs. Solomon. You may address me as Ms. Woods or Ms. Rhoads," Fiona said as she sat down.

The atmosphere in the conference room became tense.

"Uncle Lucian, you're usually so sharp with people. How could you make such a basic mistake?" Wyatt grinned at Lucian. "Ms. Woods has made a name for herself in the investment industry in recent years, and in the past six months, she's taken the already prestigious Solomon Group to even greater heights. Calling her Mrs. Solomon makes it seem like such a powerful figure is merely an accessory to a man. At dinner, you must drink more to apologize."
