Chapter 439 Don't Leave, Wait For Me to Come Out

The conference room doors swung open. Fiona crashed into a familiar and very comforting embrace.

"Be careful." Darwin held Fiona steady; his voice laced with concern.

Fiona looked up at him, tears streaming down her face without pause. She hadn't even realized she was crying. "I need to see Janna. Don't stand in my way..."

"I've already brought Grandma home," Darwin said, his voice breaking at the sight of her distress, but he gently wiped her tears while softly consoling her. "Grandma's still alive."

Fiona was stunned. "What did you say?"

"I've brought her back. She's at our family clinic now, getting checked and treated," Darwin said reassuringly. "Grandma is still with us."

Overwhelmed, Fiona collapsed into Darwin's arms, weeping uncontrollably.

In that instant, Darwin felt a mix of shock and joy. He stroked Fiona's hair. "Shh, no more tears; people are watching."

"Let them watch!" Fiona muffled her voice against him. "If I want to cry, I'll cry!"
Darwin chuckled.

He persuaded her softly, "Alright, whatever Miss Rhoads says goes!"

Standing nearby, Laura was speechless.

Along with a few onlookers, all shareholders were quiet, too.

What a sweet moment!

On the other side, Mike had his men separate Alice from Jannie.

He tried to reason with Jannie, "Jannie, your face is all bruised. If Charles sees you like this, he'll be shocked. If you want to hit her, I can have my guys hold her down for you!"

His words hung in the air.

Suddenly, a figure ran up to the door.

"Darwin saved her! My mom isn't dead!" Ken pointed at Alice, taunting loudly, "The evil you do comes back to you. Let my mom wake up, Alice. Wait for your downfall!"

"Not dead?" Alice froze. "Impossible! Dagmar sent me a photo of her dead body!"

Alice paused for a moment, then snapped back to her senses.

"Could it be that Dagmar... No way!" Alice became hysterical.

Seeing this, Ken blurted out, remembering the young physique of the man in the video, "What's so surprising? Oh, that crippled doctor… Is he another one of your lovers? Alice, how can you be so vile and promiscuous?"

The words "crippled doctor" rang out clearly, reaching Darwin.

He frowned subconsciously.

The person who was hugging him and crying let go.

"Mike, take care of things here," Darwin instructed.

"Yes, sir!" Mike responded immediately.

"Let's go, I want to see grandma," Fiona said, drying her tears as she spoke to Darwin.

Darwin looked defeated.

Glaring fiercely at Ken, he left with Fiona.

They got into the car, and Fiona gazed out the window.

What a rare, beautiful day it was!

"Was it Dagmar?" she asked, choking up, without looking at Darwin.

Darwin nodded, "Right after you stepped out, Dagmar called me and asked me to come over to pick up Grandma."

Fiona nodded.

Tears were streaming down her face.

"I just knew it... He wouldn't harm his own family... He wouldn't..."

Darwin gently squeezed her shoulder.

Soon enough, the car arrived at the hospital where Janna was admitted.

Fiona exited the elevator and ran down the corridor.

A figure curled up on a bench outside the ward, covering his face.

Hearing the footsteps, he looked up.

Seeing Fiona, he stood up immediately.

Before he could say anything, Fiona rushed into his arms and hugged him tightly.

Dagmar froze.

The person in his arms did not speak, but her shoulders shook gently—she was clearly crying.

Dagmar stayed silent for a moment.
Even after that brutal farewell, such an embrace had never graced their reunion.
Dagmar saw Darwin approaching.
"Acting like a child and crying in your brother's arms? That's not like you," Dagmar chided gently, patting Fiona's back. "Grandma Rhoads is just in a medically induced coma; her vitals are fine. The tests are done, but waking up will take a few days. Go on, see her for yourself."
"Don't go anywhere; wait for me."
Fiona released Dagmar, her eyes swimming with tears.
Dagmar was still in a daze. He felt transported to a distant past.
They were just kids back then.
Her nose was red from crying. She had clutched his hand tightly, saying, "Don't go, Dagmar. I don't want you to leave!"
What if...
Dagmar studied the person before him.
Had he not left back then, would things have turned out differently?
"I get it. I won't leave," he assured her, gently wiping away the tears on Fiona's face, uncertain whether he was speaking to the Fiona before him or the one from long ago.
Fiona pushed open the hospital room door.
Seeing Janna steady in her breathing on the hospital bed, her heart, once suspended in worry, finally settled.
Outside the room
Darwin stepped up to Dagmar.
"You won't chop off my hand for that hug we shared, will you?” Dagmar lifted his hands without a watch, revealing a scar on his wrist.
Darwin gave it a glance and looked away. "Thanks for helping out with Grandma. If you need anything, ask; as long as it doesn't cross my line, I'm willing to help."
"No need," Dagmar said coldly. "We both know I didn't do it for you."
Darwin's gaze darkened.
Then, Dagmar spoke again, "I just hope, from now on, you won't force her to do things she doesn't like."
Darwin glanced at Dagmar.
"That was the past. I won't, in the future."
"Let's hope so."
Dagmar silently averted his gaze and sat down again. Then, as if remembering something, he pulled a watch out of his lab coat pocket and put it on to cover the scar.
His wrist still had faint scratch marks, but he tugged his sleeve down to cover them up.
Darwin watched, feeling an unplaceable irritation.
After a while, Fiona emerged from the room.
Darwin and Dagmar turned to look at her.
She glanced at Darwin, then focused on Dagmar. "I'm hungry. Let's find someplace to eat."
Dagmar said, "No, someone's waiting for me back home."

Fiona paused, slightly taken aback. "Girlfriend?"

"Two kids I'm planning to adopt," Dagmar corrected with a smile, his head shaking again. "They're stuck in Bay City because of passport issues. I promised them I'd return as soon as I was done here."

His smile warmed whenever he spoke of the children.

"Dagmar, about this whole situation..." Fiona hesitated before asking.

Why was Dagmar involved with the Ken and Alice? What exactly had happened?
