Chapter 1240

Aiden was still there, waving and smiling, then pointing towards the distant field as he tossed the football and ran off.

Was it all fake? Just a hallucination?

"Mr. Solomon, even though I have offices back home, it's better for you to get treated here. The medical equipment and resources here are top-notch," Hubert explained.

Darwin stayed silent.

He was lost in thought, just sitting there.

After about half a minute, he suddenly looked at Fiona and asked, "Where's Xavier?"

Fiona looked at him silently, not saying a word.

But Darwin could tell from her eyes.

In a daze, he remembered dreaming of Xavier lying in a pool of blood, while he held a blood-stained dagger.

"I get it." Tears streamed down Darwin's terrified face.

He looked at Fiona, and before he could speak, the tears started to flow.

Darwin felt his heart breaking into pieces. "You won't leave me, will you?"

"Never," Fiona replied immediately.

"Okay." Darwin nodded lightly. "I'll wait for you to take me home."

In that moment, Fiona's emotions completely broke down.

She hugged Darwin, crying, "Okay!"

Hubert escorted Fiona out.

As he closed the door to the ward, Fiona didn't look back.

But Hubert did.

That fragile and helpless look only appeared on Darwin's face when he was ill.

The door was heavy. Once closed, it automatically locked.

Fiona glanced at it, feeling very uncomfortable. "Will you keep him locked up all the time?"

"Of course not. This is just the exit for medical staff. On the other side, there's a passage where he can freely go to the lawn and garden with medical staff accompanying him," Hubert replied, "The monitoring in the ward will be synced to your devices as we agreed, so you can rest easy."

"Okay," Fiona responded.

She felt a bit dizzy, remembering the piece of candy Burl had given her in her pocket. She unwrapped it and put it in her mouth.

The bitterness in her mouth eased a bit.

"Honestly, I'm a bit surprised," Hubert said softly.

Fiona looked at him, saying, "Surprised that I brought him here?"

Hubert shook his head. "You're very smart and naturally would make the best decision. I'm not surprised you brought him here. I'm surprised that Darwin accepted it without making a scene."

He paused, then continued, "Honestly, when Grandma Mitchell was still lucid, I met Darwin once with her. At that time, you had just arrived at his place, and I saw you too."

Hubert lowered his eyes and smiled wistfully. "Back then, I did a psychological profile on Darwin and found him to be a very typical, extremely self-centered person."

Fiona said nothing.

At that time, Darwin indeed fit those words.

"He loves you more than I imagined," Hubert said slowly.

He understood why Darwin didn't make a scene in the end. It was because of the bruises on Fiona's neck and Xavier being severely injured by him.

If Darwin didn't get treatment, what he would face could be Fiona being severely injured or the children dying at his hands.

So, he went against his psychological profile and chose to quietly accept it.
