Chapter 1321
Another day of physical therapy was finally over.
When they brought Darwin back to his room, he looked pale as a ghost, with dark teeth marks on his lips.
Hubert showed up a bit later.
He handed Darwin a cup of warm water and sat down next to him.
"Mrs. Solomon mentioned that the little kitten you and Chicago saved has turned into quite the little 'tyrant,'" Hubert said with a gentle smile. "She also said that Mrs. Janna Solomon, seeing that Charles is doing great and has nothing to worry about, has started talking about his future marriage."
"They want Melissa," Darwin croaked out.
"Is that Kenny's daughter?" Hubert asked.
Darwin nodded.
The physical therapy left his mind feeling blank.
Aiden was still in the room.
Today, he was wearing a white shirt and denim overalls.
He seemed pretty happy, despite his body and face being covered with scars, both new and old.
Darwin tried his best not to look at him.
He focused all his attention on Hubert.
"What else did she say?" Darwin asked.
"There’s a lot, so I'll tell you bit by bit." Hubert's voice was like a cool stream on a hot day.
He shared some updates about Emerald Pool: Jessie was recovering well, Chicago had won an art award, Charles had finished his coursework for the next three years and recently started working again, and the Solomon Group's AI was up for a generational upgrade after a year, with Charles fully dedicated to it.
Darwin found it a bit hard to follow, but he really wanted to listen.
After Hubert finished speaking, he noticed the unmistakable pain in Darwin's expression and softened his tone. "Darwin, you can ease up on the physical therapy a bit."
Darwin shook his head without hesitation. "As long as it's within the range you set, it's fine."
He paused for a moment, looking at the lush greenery outside the window.
Then he continued. "Bay City is getting really cold, and it won't be long before it starts snowing. After it snows, the New Year will come. I want to go home for the New Year."
Hubert nodded and replied, "Okay."
Leaving Darwin's room, Hubert, without a moment's rest, changed into the lab's sterilized clothing and went to the lab set up in the basement.
Fiona had provided a lot of money to support Hubert in developing the injections previously used for Darwin.
Now, Hubert basically never went home.
Except for visiting Darwin, he spent nearly all his time in the lab.
The raw materials for the injections were very expensive, and the lab's daily expenses were like water flowing down the drain.
Fiona never asked about the progress.
The card she gave Hubert was also an unlimited-use card.
Hubert could feel Fiona's trust in him, which made him even more determined to quickly achieve the goal his parents had spent their lives working toward, as well as the career he had poured years of effort into.
If the drug experiment succeeded, both Darwin and Aiden could finally go home.
Hubert looked up at the family photo hanging outside the protective glass on the wall.
He thought Aldrich could go home too.
Due to the physical therapy and medication, Darwin spent most of his time in a state of drowsiness.
When he was awake, he would seize the opportunity to write in his journal.
Darwin used to hate journaling, but now he kept thinking about grasping onto something.
