Chapter 533 Further Attempts to Sow Discord Fail
Even with the support of the Shaw family, Thalassa was still considered inconsequential in the eyes of the Walker family—hardly worth mentioning, not fit to be seen on their level.
The estimation was that Thalassa had already been unfavorably judged.
And with this latest incident, Thalassa would undoubtedly be done for.
"Since you already know, I don't have much else to say." Justin retracted his phone, stood up, and made to leave.
"You're going to see my parents, right?" Kenny asked leisurely.
Justin was taken aback.
"I... I wasn't going to..."
"Cut the act, you're a terrible actor, only Maria falls for your tricks," Kenny said, pulling out his phone. "If you're looking for my parents, there's no need for complications. I'll call them for you."
Justin was dumbstruck.
The phone rang a few times before Scarlet picked up. "Son, are you off work already? Is Thalassa with you? How's her mood? Maybe I should just head to Bay City. I think I'll have the family jet brought over, and then take her on a shopping spree in Europe. No, that sounds boring. Africa it is, I'll take her gemstone mining. I heard there's a new ruby mine."
Before Kenny could get a word in, Scarlet had begun rambling on.
"Mom, is Dad there?" Kenny intervened softly.
Justin slowly sat back down.
"Honey, it's Kenny," Scarlet relayed to her husband.
A moment later, Matt's deep voice could be heard on the other end. "Did you finish your medication? I'll have someone deliver it tomorrow."
"Who will you send? I can go myself. I want to see my daughter-in-law."
Kenny glanced at Justin, cutting off the imminent argument between his parents, "Mom, someone wants to see you, to tattle on Thalassa."
The argument ceased at once.
"Who?" Scarlet's tone became hostile immediately.
"You know him, Thalassa's former stepfather," Kenny answered.
Scarlet raised her voice. "You mean that man who cheated with a mistress ten years his junior, who hit his wife and drove her to her death?"
"That's the one."
"I never hit her!" Justin felt wronged beyond measure. "I just accidentally pushed her a bit."
"Wow, is the man at the scene?" Scarlet was astonished.
"Yeah, he came to me to spill the dirt but I called his bluff. I figured he'd keep going to you, so I might as well call you directly."
Justin was numb with shock.
The mental state of this family seemed well off the mark.
"What dirt does he want to spill?" Matt asked in a stern voice.
Justin, grabbing at straws like he'd found his lifeline, believed in Matt's leadership of the Walker family.
He was the one to be trusted.
However, before Justin could speak, Kenny stepped forward casually, dropping a bombshell. "It's about Thalassa, you know, the fling he had with his son a few years back."
It hit Justin like a thunderbolt from clear skies.
Matt let out a nonchalant. "So? They weren't siblings by blood. What's the big deal about dating? Hell, your mom and her adopted stepbrother..."
"Matt, did I or did I not tell you to shut up about that?"
"What's the matter? Can't own up to your actions? I've been wanting to bring this up ever since your aunt's big birthday bash. Remember how he showed up all decked out like a peacock? Who was he trying to impress?"
"Impress who, my foot! His wife was there, matching outfits and all. You really wanna drag up teenage dirt? Are you brain-dead or something?"
"Mom, Dad, we'll talk later."
Hearing the rising uproar on the other end, Kenny hung up the call.
Justin felt numb all over.
The Walker family didn't shun Thalassa at all.
They even defended her.
Something Justin had never anticipated.
"Feeling better now?" Kenny asked him, with a sharp look.
Back at the funeral home, he had seen Justin's intention to corner Thalassa, probably to exploit her past with Chris as a threat.
That's why Kenny came to see Justin.
Dragging this out was a waste of time.
Justin wasn't worth his time.
So, he decided to end it all at once.
"You're from wealthy families, right? Aren’t you the type care the most about these things?
Justin shot back in a fury, "She's such trash."
A cup struck Justin square on the forehead.
Justin fell to the ground with a yell, clutching his head.
"It's too easy letting scum like you off with a quick death," Kenny said coolly, getting to his feet. "Those last five words you just used are enough to have you dead."
"I'll sue you!"
"Be my guest."
Kenny was about to leave when he added, "One more thing."
He glared at Justin with a look so intimidating it felt like a noose around Justin's throat. "Starting today, I'll personally make sure the bank project you're invested in tanks. Prepare to kiss your assets goodbye."
This was more shocking than a blow to the head.
"What do you mean? How do you know what I've invested in? You can't short-sell it! That's everything I own!"
Kenny ignored Justin and strode away, his pace steady and confident.
At checkout, he paid only for his coffee and the broken cup, plus an additional cleaning fee.
The servers were stunned.
After Kenny left, a waitress and a waiter looked on with sheer admiration.
"He's so cool..."
"And such a gentleman..." the male server declared, sniffing the bill Kenny had left. He sauntered off looking positively elated.
"Gotta love those good-looking guys!"
"Too bad he's off the market so young," the waitress lamented.
"How do you know?" the waiter asked, visibly surprised.
"He was showing his phone's screensaver when he was here, and he told me it's his wife. He even asked me if I thought she was cute..."
"Damn, that makes him even more attractive!"
Just as they were talking, Justin staggered out, clutching a wound on his forehead.
"Hey, you haven't paid yet!"
The waiter immediately ran after Justin and caught up with him. Seeing Justin's bloody face, he flinched—but didn't let go.
"Thanks for visiting, that'll be thirty-six dollars!"
Justin, furious and in pain, pulled out a hundred dollar bill and threw it at the waiter. "Let go!"
Once the waiter let go, Justin dashed outside, but by then, Kenny was nowhere to be found.
Justin let out a cry of frustration, attracting disapproving glances from passersby.
In the wake of Kenny's parting words, Justin had no inclination to call the police or anything of the sort.
Instead, he took a cab to the hospital to have his wounds treated. All the while, he tried to contact the friend who had advised him on bank investments—a friend of several decades. Justin couldn't believe that his friend would betray him. And yet...
No matter how many messages he sent, it was like dropping stones into the abyss—no response came back.
After getting his wounds bandaged, Justin found that several blisters had formed in his mouth.
He made numerous phone calls, trying to withdraw from his investment, but every time he was told that it wasn't time yet and withdrawal wasn't possible.
