Chapter 1114
Hubert wasn't exactly handsome, but he had this cool, scholarly vibe, kinda like Alexander's elegance but different.
"I got here too early," Hubert said, stepping forward and offering his hand.
Fiona shook his hand politely, and they both sat down.
"How's your friend doing?" Hubert asked, pouring Fiona a glass of water.
It was weird. This was their first meeting, but Hubert acted like they'd known each other for a long time. Their conversation flowed easily.
"Not too well," Fiona admitted. "But she'll get better."
"I've heard a bit about her situation. If she needs a therapist, I can recommend some," Hubert offered.
"I'll ask her when I get back," Fiona replied. "It's really kind of you to come to Bay City despite your busy schedule."
"Patricia's case is a fascinating research subject," Hubert said gently. "I should be thanking you."
"Is her condition very complicated?" Fiona asked.
"Besides the personalities that have already emerged, there are some hidden ones. It's very intriguing. I'll write a paper on it. If you're interested, you may take a look when it's finished."
"Sure."
Hubert looked at Fiona, his clear eyes showing a hint of disappointment. She seemed enthusiastic, but their conversation felt superficial, all technique, no emotion.
"Let's order. Have you been here before?" Hubert asked, masking his feelings.
"It's my first time," Fiona admitted with a helpless smile. "I'm not very familiar with vegetarian food. Dr. Hubert, you order."
Hubert didn't hesitate.
In no time, he had ordered lunch for both of them. During the meal, he was very talkative, always speaking gently, making people feel comfortable and at ease. Occasionally, they delved into professional topics, and he explained them simply.
They chatted for over an hour. Then Hubert's graduate student called him. Occasionally responding while listening intently to the call, and then said with a bit of authority, "Alright, I'll be back right away."
He hung up. "Mrs. Solomon, this lunch has been the most enjoyable I've had in a long time, but..." Hubert shook his phone helplessly.
"No problem, you go ahead. We'll have other opportunities to meet again," Fiona said with a smile.
Hubert looked at her. "Alright, I'm looking forward to our next meeting, Mrs. Solomon." Then he left.
Fiona sat in the private room, slowly sipping a cup of tea. Hubert was indeed very professional; no wonder Anna highly recommended him. Next time they meet, she might bring Darwin along.
With this thought in mind, Fiona checked the time. Lunch break was an hour. The afternoon meeting should have already started.
