Chapter 38 He Will Kill the Baby

"Harold," Fiona called out.

Harold glanced at her, then dropped his gaze. "Does Darwin know?"

"This kid's mine; he doesn't need to know," Fiona paused. "You saved her life too, so you gotta keep our secret. If Darwin finds out, he'll kill her."

Harold was floored.

He looked up, shocked and pissed. "Is he even human?"

"Chill out," Fiona tried to calm him.

Harold's eyes were red, full of pain. "Fiona."

"Don't be like this, I'm good," Fiona said with a smile. "By the way, you saved the baby's life. How about being her godfather?"

Harold was taken aback.

"We'll talk later," he said, feeling a bit guilty.

"Alright." Fiona lay down.

Today had drained her, body and soul.

"Don't think about anything, just get some sleep," Harold said beside her. "Fiona, you won't be alone. I'll be here with you."

Fiona felt a lump in her throat.

Her grandma had been confused in her last two years before she passed away.

Since then, it had been ages since anyone had said such words to her.

At the Solomon Villa in Bay City, the Solomon family had been busy all day prepping for tomorrow's engagement announcement.

The custom-made couple's outfits and wedding rings had been delivered to the old mansion.

Darwin hated these tedious matters, especially since Fiona had first blocked his number, and in the afternoon, she sent a few messages saying she wanted to cut ties completely, then blocked all his contact methods.

He was in a foul mood.

The atmosphere inside and outside the house was tense.

The servants were all working on eggshells.

One maid, too nervous, accidentally spilled the supplements meant for Hathaway on Darwin.

She was so scared she almost fainted.

"At least it wasn't the gown," Hathaway said gently as she approached. "Don't be so careless next time. Hurry up and clean it."

The maid quickly responded and hurriedly cleaned up.

"I'm gonna take a shower." Darwin had a cleanliness obsession.

He couldn't tolerate it for even a minute.

With a gloomy expression, he headed upstairs.

He even forgot to take his phone.

Seeing this, Hathaway picked up the phone and followed him upstairs.

Just as she reached Darwin's room door, his phone rang.

Hathaway glanced down and turned gloomy.

It was Fiona again.

Yesterday, Darwin had already been called away by her once.

Hathaway thought for a moment and answered the call.

Originally, she thought Fiona would definitely rant during their first conversation.

But unexpectedly, on the other line, Fiona sounded like a thief caught red-handed, hastily saying she had dialed the wrong number before hanging up.

Hathaway mocked.

She had wondered what kind of woman Darwin was so infatuated with.

It turned out that Fiona was nothing special, not fit for polite society.

Hathaway pushed open Darwin's room door and entered, finding Darwin's room, like him, exuded a cold and stern atmosphere.

She looked around and sat down on the sofa in the small living room.

There were two open documents on the small table directly opposite.

She glanced at them and frowned.

They both were property deeds, solely owned by Fiona.

The processing date was today.

One was an apartment, the other was a standalone villa.

Darwin was really generous to Fiona.

Moments later, he came out wrapped in a towel.

Hathaway turned her head and saw his bare upper body, with droplets of water still on his honey-colored skin, even his muscle lines were perfect.

Darwin didn't expect anyone else to be in the room.

He frowned and went straight into the walk-in closet, changing into casual clothes before coming out.

He asked, "Who let you in?"

"You forgot your phone." Hathaway hesitated for a moment. "Ms. Woods just called."

"When? You didn't answer, did you?" Darwin hurried over and took back his phone.

"I accidentally answered it, but she seemed to have dialed the wrong number and hung up as soon as it connected," Hathaway replied, "Don't be so tense. Do you think I would kill her?"

Darwin said nothing and called back, finding a cold mechanical voice came through. "The number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."

"Someone as cautious as her wouldn't dial the wrong number." Darwin checked the time and called the hotel.

After inquiring, he learned that Fiona had checked out and gone to the airport.

"Her flight back to Bay city is soon. I'll go pick her up." Darwin grabbed a jacket. "You can handle the engagement details yourself."

He was certain that Fiona had called him because she had something to say.

Was she regretting her words?

No matter what, Darwin knew he wanted to see Fiona as soon as possible.

He also wanted her to see him as soon as she landed in Bay city.

"Darwin." Hathaway stood up.

She wanted to keep Darwin.

But he didn't listen to her and hurried out the door.

Hathaway sat down in frustration.

She looked again at the two property deeds.

She thought venomously, 'That damned flight'd better never land in Bay city!'

Shortly after Darwin arrived at the airport, Fiona's flight landed safely.

For the first time, he went to the arrival gate to wait.

Darwin was tall, with an excellent build and looks.

Standing there, he attracted countless gazes.

Time passed bit by bit.

People came out one after another, but Darwin still didn't see Fiona.

Before his patience ran out, he called Fiona.

It was still the cold mechanical voice.

Her phone was still off.

After a while, Darwin still didn't see Fiona.

He simply called Henry.

Moments later, Henry responded nervously, "Mr. Solomon, Ms. Woods didn't board the plane."

"Didn't board the plane?"

"Yes, maybe she wanted to stay in New Port for a few more days?" Henry said.

Darwin hung up.

He got back into the car and sent a message to Fiona: [Call me back.]

The message was sent, but it showed as rejected.

Logically, Darwin should be angry at this point.

But instead, he felt an inexplicable panic.

He thought, 'It's okay. As long as her grandmother is there, I won't lose her!'

Tomorrow he was getting engaged, and it was just as well she wouldn't be in Bay city.

After the engagement, he would go find her and talk to her properly about his and Hathaway's decision.

Darwin then transferred two million dollars to Fiona's account.

The next morning, Fiona received her phone, computer, bag, and suitcase.

Yesterday, Harold had arrived in time with people.

They used several car fire extinguishers to put out the fire.

Fiona's belongings were all intact.

When she turned on her phone, a flood of messages caused it to lag for a moment.

Finally, her eyes fixed on the notification of Darwin's large transfer.
