Chapter 750 It's a Miracle to Be Alive
'Dad must have gone through a lot to be back with us.'
Fiona stood at the door, tears of joy in her eyes. Darwin looked at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions. Just from looking at photos, Darwin knew he loved these two children. Now, meeting them in person, Darwin's emotions overwhelmed him. After that, Chicago and Charles were almost always by Darwin's side.
During meals, they insisted on sitting next to him, one on each side. Chicago even worried about Darwin's food, afraid that he might eat something unhealthy that would affect his recovery. Darwin had a satisfied smile on his face the whole time. He let Chicago make all the arrangements, deciding what he could or couldn't eat. Fiona didn't intervene either. After all, the dishes Fiona called for were all Darwin's favorites, and Chicago couldn't go wrong with how she arranged them.
After the meal, Chicago took Charles and went downstairs with Darwin for a walk. It was the season of camellia blooming, and there was an area in the Rhoads family hospital filled with vibrant red camellias. Darwin, still using a cane, walked slowly with a child on each side. Fiona followed behind with Thalassa.
"Look at Charles, his eyes are glued to his dad," Thalassa whispered to Fiona. Charles had always been reserved in expressing his emotions. But since he saw Darwin, Charles's gaze never left him. Now he was even more cautious, afraid that Darwin might stumble and fall.
"How nice," Fiona whispered.
"Yes, it's wonderful," Thalassa's voice choked with emotion. She never thought she would have the chance to see this scene. "By the way, Kenny said he's still at the stage where he can't recognize words, and the company..."
"Take it slow," Fiona didn't mind. "Solomon's operation has stabilized, and the news of his return has been released one after another. The others who were restless are probably too scared to cause any more trouble."
"That's true. After all, the name Darwin is a deterrent!" Thalassa nodded.
"Mommy!" Chicago turned around. Fiona immediately smiled gently and walked quickly ahead.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?"
"Don't talk to my godmother all the time. Talk to Dad more!" Chicago said seriously, extremely concerned.
Fiona's shoulders shook with laughter. "Okay, I know I was wrong. I'll talk to Dad more!" she said, taking Darwin's arm.
"They used to dote on me the most, now they dote on you the most." Darwin's face was full of smiles.
"It's okay, I dote on you the most," he whispered in Fiona's ear. Chicago saw them whispering and turned back with a smile to look at Thalassa. Thalassa was already holding hands with Kenny. Chicago loved to see the adults in love. She ran ahead, jumping with joy.
"I'm so happy! Chicago is the happiest and most fortunate child in the world!" she exclaimed, spreading her arms. Darwin was probably too happy. It took him twenty minutes before his legs gave out. When they returned to the ward, Chicago started to peel fruit for him. She even fed him directly.
"Dad, whatever you need, just call me as long as I'm here!" she said earnestly as she fed him. "You call me, and I'll come to you right away!" Darwin's eyes welled up.
"Chicago is really good," he said gently.
"I'm not that good," Chicago said, lowering her eyelids, and holding back the tears. "I wasn't nice to you before!"
Seeing her about to cry, Darwin panicked. "How could that be? Although I don't remember anything, when I saw your photos, I felt that I received a lot of love from you, really."
"Chicago." Fiona came in and saw Chicago about to cry. She helplessly went up to her. "Crybaby, what are you crying about again?"
"I'm not a crybaby!" Chicago said stubbornly, her eyes wide open, trying not to let the tears fall. Fiona was amused by her. Chicago then went to feed Darwin.
"Dad has already eaten a lot, he can't eat anymore," Fiona said helplessly. Whatever Chicago gave Darwin, he would eat, and he wasn't afraid of overeating.
"Oh..." Chicago obediently nodded, then turned to feed Fiona. "Then let Mommy eat, or else Mommy will be jealous!"
Fiona laughed, "You little child, look at the time, haven't you finished your homework today?"
"Oh no!" Chicago slapped her forehead.
"Hurry up!" Fiona patted Chicago's little butt. Chicago hurriedly ran out.
Fiona sat down next to Darwin and asked, "Are you happy?"
Darwin nodded without hesitation, "Charles and Chicago are so cute!"
"Not only cute, your son and daughter..." Before Fiona could finish her sentence, Chicago came in with her schoolbag.
"It's okay, you guys chat, I'll do my homework here!" Chicago said as she took out her homework book from her schoolbag and threw it on the ground. She quickly got down on the floor and started writing.
"Chicago, Dad won't run away," Fiona said with a drawn-out voice.
"Okay, I know." Although Chicago said she knew, she still didn't show any intention of leaving. Fiona and Darwin exchanged a glance, and both smiled. Darwin couldn't leave the hospital tonight. Originally, Janna and Thalassa were planning to take Charles and Chicago back. Who knew that neither of the two little ones wanted to leave the hospital. Janna had to have their pajamas sent over.
Late at night, Fiona made time to deal with the accumulated work. Chicago and Charles slept next to Darwin. Chicago's emotions were up and down today, and she was so tired that she lay on the hospital bed, intending to chat with her dad, but in no time, Chicago fell asleep. Darwin turned his head to see if Charles was asleep.
He met Charles's gaze. "Charles, what's wrong?" Darwin asked, and then subconsciously remembered the ugly scar on his face in Charles's sight.
"Does it still hurt?" Charles asked.
Darwin honestly replied, "I don't remember."
When he woke up, the scars on his face had scabbed and become what they are now, and it didn't hurt anymore.
"I read your medical report," Charles continued, "It was a close call, it's a miracle that you survived."
Darwin probably knew that his son was very intelligent. Charles was a teenage genius. Unexpectedly, he could read medical reports.
Darwin nodded. Charles looked at him and said softly, "Thank you."
Darwin was slightly startled. "Why... why are you thanking me?" "
