Chapter 327 Dagmar's Incriminating Evidence

Thalassa tapped Chelsea's head. "What has your mom been feeding you to have you defending her like this?"

Chelsea remained silent. With her head down, she continued to cry, deeply upset.

With a slight grin, Charles stood beside her.

He understood that his sister's tears weren't just about being put in time-out; she regretted getting too attached to Darwin.

Maybe she even believed that if it weren't for her, Mom wouldn't be going through such a tough time.

From a distance, Fiona watched the small figures of Charles and Chicago. Her eyes brimming with tears, a tumult of emotions swirling within.

"Let's talk," Darwin said, approaching her with a gentle voice that betrayed little of what he felt.

Fiona remained silent but turned and walked toward the exit.

Darwin cast another glance at Chicago. He had always believed Fiona would be the only one to leave him feeling lost and clueless. Now there was another little one. He had no idea how to comfort them.

Withdrawing his gaze, Darwin left the lounge as well.

"Madam..." Stuart looked at Janna with concern, seemingly asking for guidance.

With a sigh, Janna shook her head, "Let them work it out on their own. Too many cooks spoil the broth."

Stuart seemed like he wanted to object, lips parting, but recalling the recent chaos, he remained silent.

Upon leaving the room, Darwin didn't look at Fiona, just said, "Meet me at the café," and walked away without waiting for a reply.

Fiona knew, despite saying nothing, that a conversation with Darwin was inevitable. So she went to the café.

Choosing a spot bathed in sunlight, she sat down. The warmth of the sun often soothed a troubled heart.

Darwin returned to his car to retrieve a manila folder. When he found her, Fiona was basking in the sun, the golden rays casting an almost ethereal glow upon her. Peacefulness radiated from her being, creating a sense of serenity among onlookers.

He watched for a moment, then slowly approached while clutching the folder. Hearing footsteps, Fiona snapped back from her reverie and opened her eyes to see Darwin, frowning instinctively at the sight of the folder in his hands. He had mentioned grabbing a paternity test to fight for the kids before.

Darwin sat down across from her and placed the folder on the small round table.

"You wouldn't be foolish enough to try and take Charles and Chicago from me, if I were you!"

Fiona's eyes were piercing. "Do you really want them to hate you?"

Darwin met her gaze. Since when did she start looking at him with such wariness?

"I need them back with me," he said firmly. "I can't miss any more of their growing up."

"So this is it, we've got nothing else to talk about!" With a forceful slap on the table and a lean forward, Fiona moved in close to Darwin. "Listen, Darwin, I won't let anybody force my kids to do something they don't want to do. Unless it's their own choice, no one's taking them away from me. Not on my watch."

After her declaration, Fiona stood up, ready to leave, but Darwin grabbed her wrist.

"Don't you want to see what's inside the folder?" he asked, his brows furrowing slightly.

"A paternity test, right?" Fiona asked, suspicion coloring her tone.

Darwin glanced at the thick folder. "Since when is a paternity test this hefty?"

Fiona looked at Darwin, then back at the folder. "You're not trying to offer me a lump sum of money or something else in exchange for my kids, are you?"

Darwin looked away, obviously uninterested in entertaining her question.

Fiona sat back down, snatched the folder, and efficiently opened it, pulling out its contents.
Her face turned stormy at the sight of the topmost document.

"Darwin, to think I accused you of trying to buy my kids, you're too predictable. Always with the threats and intimidations. Don't you have any new tricks up your sleeve?" she scoffed.

The document she was holding was an annual report of a publicly traded company under the Rhoads family, with evidence of fabricated costs and irregularities in listing data.

"Just keep reading," Darwin said, his eyelids lowered, his demeanor unexpectedly calm and composed despite the insult.

Fiona rolled her eyes and continued through the documents.

The rest of the content was similar. It was either related to Rhoads family businesses or things pertaining to Janna.

Fiona had never considered Janna, who fought her way to the top of the pyramid, to be the epitome of purity and innocence, unblemished by guilt.

She skimmed through the rest with hardly a change in expression—until she saw Dagmar's name.

"Darwin! If you had any conscience, you wouldn't drag Dagmar into this," Fiona said, her eyes finally lifting to meet his.

Darwin thought back to the day he saw her and Dagmar enjoying cupcakes, enveloped in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

"Dr. Dagmar hasn't practiced medicine in years, and she's changed quite a bit," he commented, glancing over Dagmar's file.

"To further the development of the Rhoads family medical industry, her tactics have grown more aggressive each year, completely abandoning the old 'do no harm' principle."

Fiona's face turned pale. She then quickly glanced at the papers in her hand. She knew Darwin well enough. He wasn't the type to resort to fabrications for deception.

The construction of the new hospital faced opposition until those causing trouble mysteriously disappeared, and then the hospital was smoothly built.

Also, the permit process had been delayed for over half a year, but after Dagmar got involved, the entire department overseeing the approvals was dismissed, and the hospital permits were swiftly issued.

It was becoming clear to Fiona that Dagmar had resolved these issues using illicit means.

"Even with a few publicly traded companies under the Rhoads family umbrella in trouble, no one could trace the issues back to Janna. Regarding her past, it's quite old; some of the victims can't even be found. The most she might endure is a loss of reputation and some online criticism," Darwin poured himself a glass of lemonade, "But it's different for Dagmar. He's got no fame, no protection— these dealings alone could get him locked up multiple times over if they reached the police."

In an instant, Fiona grabbed her glass and splashed water at Darwin's face.

He squeezed his eyes shut, his brow furrowing.

"There's one more document to consider," Darwin said, dabbing his face dry with a napkin.

"You have two options. Sign it, or... my people are already at the precinct. If you refuse, Dagmar could be behind bars within half an hour."

Fiona smirked coldly and said, “Dagmar has already left the country; cut the act!”
