Chapter 1386

Fiona asked, "Where's your car?"

Rose sighed, "Parking's a nightmare. I just take a cab to work now."

Fiona checked the time and said, "Why don't you crash here another night? Who knows how long you'll be waiting."

Rose smiled but said, "I don't want to be a bother."

"Are you coming or not?" Fiona asked.

Of course, Rose followed her.

Before her business trip, Rose had come back to her cold, empty apartment from Emerald Pool, feeling super down.

But today, Emerald Pool was pretty empty. The Thalassa family was at the hospital with their sick grandma. Janna had taken Charles and Chicago to visit an old friend and said they wouldn't be back tonight. Burl and Wyatt had left Emerald Pool after the holiday. Dinner was just Rose and Fiona. Even so, Rose felt way better than being alone in her apartment.

"By the way, Patricia's doing a lot better lately. She's clear-headed most of the time now, and she refuses to see her dad and brother. Maybe she knows they don't really care about her," Rose suddenly said.

Fiona didn't even look up. "Do they visit Patricia often?" she asked.

Rose shook her head, a hint of disdain on her face. "They've only been twice."

After a pause, Rose continued, "Originally, after Patricia was sent to us, her mom was the one taking care of her. Working with Hubert all these years, I've seen so much. At first, there's a lot of love and hope that the patient will get better, but after being tormented day after day, that love eventually gets worn out."

Fiona looked up at her.

Rose continued, "Strictly speaking, all mental illnesses are incurable; at best, they can be managed. One might tolerate one relapse, maybe even two, but how about three, four, or five? And Patricia's condition is such that she becomes violent during episodes. She's hurt her brother and father with sticks and knives. Her dad told me once she almost killed him with a kitchen knife, and now he gets scared just seeing her."

"Everyone has fears; it's understandable," Fiona said calmly.

"And what about you? Mr. Solomon almost killed you. Are you afraid of him?" Rose blurted out.

After asking, she seemed to realize her mistake and quickly lowered her head in panic.

Yet Fiona replied, "I guess I haven't reached the point where all my love has been worn out. I can tell who wants to kill me and who loves me, so there's nothing to be afraid of."

Rose's eyes trembled slightly.

"But don't worry, Hubert is very confident in his work. With his medication, Mr. Solomon will definitely get better!" She then encouraged Fiona firmly.

Fiona smiled at her. "I'll take your word for it."

Rose nodded vigorously.

After dinner, Fiona told Rose to make herself at home and went to her bedroom to rest.

Rose didn't wander around. Once Fiona left, she returned to the guest room she had stayed in last time. She collapsed onto the soft bed. Feeling quite cheerful, Rose began to hum a tune. It was an old melody. Her mom said it was a lullaby from her grandmother's hometown. Later, when Rose's mom was less irritable and more lucid, she would hum it to lull Rose to sleep. Then she would tell her to be a good girl.

Rose looked at the beautiful patterns and thought, 'Mom, I'll listen to you and be a good girl. That way, you'll be happy, right? That way, you'll be happy, and everyone will be happy.'
