Chapter 179 Found
Sophia had been watching Fiona the whole time, wary that she might seduce one of her family's guests at the banquet.
Seeing Fiona slip away quietly, Sophia's alarm bells rang, and she quickly followed.
She watched in secret for a while.
Sophia vaguely heard her mention something about her home here and there.
She was certain Chelsea must have been on the phone with a man she was keeping.
"Chelsea, why are you hiding here by yourself?" Sophia stepped forward.
Fiona glanced at her, then gently told the person on the phone, "I have something to deal with here, make sure you take your medicine."
Burl responded with a grievance and ended the call.
Fiona placed her phone back in her handbag and stood up.
She was half a head taller than Sophia, and her presence naturally felt more imposing than Sophia's. Sophia didn't like this at all.
She forced a smile, "So tender with him, that couldn't be the man you're rumored to be keeping, could it?"
Fiona looked at Sophia, "Miss White, before you provoke me, perhaps tell me, what grievances exist between us?"
Sophia wasn't about to reveal that she had stolen Fiona's project.
"What provocation? I'm always about facts. If it's not a man, just say it's not." Sophia said sarcastically, arms crossed.
Fiona took two steps forward, exuding a powerful aura. Sophia instantly panicked but held back from retreating.
Fiona stood in front of Sophia, "Sophia, do you know what the White family is currently relying on to survive?"
Sophia was caught off guard.
"Are you threatening me? Do you have any idea about the relationship between Janna and my grandparents? She would never let you harm us!" Sophia retorted.
"It seems you're aware that your comfortable life is courtesy of the Rhoads family, right?" Fiona smirked mockingly, "Given that you know, how can you be so foolishly defiant? It seems you are truly stupid."
"Who are you calling stupid!" Sophia bristled instantly.
Fiona suddenly grabbed her chin, her smile gone, "Fool, I don't need Janna's approval for what I want to do. How about I use your parents' current project to make an example for you?"
"You wouldn't dare!" Sophia panicked.
"Shall we try?" Fiona smiled slightly.
Though it was a pretty smile, it sent chills down Sophia's spine.
"Chelsea, aren't you afraid that I'll spill all your dirty secrets?"
"Go ahead, tonight is a perfect occasion. Grab a microphone now and spill my dirty secrets in front of all these guests," Fiona challenged fearlessly.
Color drained from Sophia's face.
"Idiot." Fiona let go of Sophia's face, walked around her, and left with confident strides.
Unfortunately for her, Fiona had entered through the north gate.
She took a longer route back, also through the north gate, perfectly avoiding Darwin, who was coming from the south gate.
Sophia never expected that Darwin would come looking for Chelsea.
"That Chelsea just mentioned by my brother?!"
Sophia emphasized 'my brother' with deliberate intent.
After all, she had just mentioned this woman's indiscretions before Darwin.
Chelsea... Darwin felt as if he'd been struck by lightning.
"Where did she go?" Darwin asked.
"Why are you looking for Chelsea?" Sophia suppressed her anger, "She's not a good person, messing around with other men, having several kids, and now she's bought a mansion to keep a man!"
She blurted out all the supposed scandals about Fiona she believed to be true.
Darwin's face couldn't have looked worse.
After all, it was with these arguments that Sophia had managed to dissuade Vivian.
Seeing Darwin's ghastly expression, Sophia was certain she could sway him as well.
But to her surprise Darwin's gaze was fierce and his tone even more threatening, "Say one more bad word about her, and you, along with the White family, will not have another good day!"
Sophia was shocked.
"She left?" Darwin continued.
Without thinking, Sophia shook her head. Immediately, Darwin turned and headed towards the event. But after barely taking two steps, Sophia followed.
"Darwin!" She stepped in Darwin's path.
Darwin looked at her with a brooding expression.
At that moment, his mind was a whirlwind of confusion.
Chelsea... Janna's granddaughter, Chelsea. He had heard that name many times over the years.
Yet, he never imagined Janna's granddaughter, who appeared so suddenly, would be Fiona.
Yes... Hadn't this granddaughter only recently made herself known?
Darwin's heart pounded like thunder, his desire to meet Miss Chelsea growing more urgent.
Even her silhouette was strikingly familiar...
"Move aside!" Darwin barked.
"I've liked you for so many years!" Sophia confessed through teary eyes, "For you, I've studied diligently every day, graduating as valedictorian from your alma mater..."
Sophia's words hung unfinished. Darwin, growing impatient, bypassed her and strode briskly towards the venue.
He had no patience for what he deemed as her pointless ramblings.
Right now, he was fixated on seeing Chelsea's true face.
Sophia stood motionless, her blood seeming to boil with the rejection.
He was so rushed, he wouldn't even listen to her confession, all for that vile Chelsea!
Why?!
Stealing her graduation project! And now stealing the man she had coveted for years! That was Darwin! What right did that vile Chelsea have? Sophia felt a murderous rage brewing.
After a moment, she turned and with a heavy heart, walked toward the venue.
Soon Chelsea would be humiliated in front of everyone! Darwin was an avowed perfectionist. As long as he witnessed Chelsea's disarray, even her angry embarrassment, he would lose interest! Sophia consoled herself with these thoughts on her way.
When Fiona returned to the venue, she just caught the Whites giving their speech.
Upon seeing Fiona, Mrs. White's face lit up with a warm smile, "Today we must also thank a special guest, the granddaughter of my dear friend Janna, Miss Chelsea."
Then Mrs. White fondly recalled her past friendship with Janna and expressed admiration for Miss Chelsea's distinguished accomplishments.
"After all, there's nothing happier for us than seeing the younger generation thrive." Mrs. White said, dabbing away a tear.
It was well known that Janna adored Chelsea as her prized possession, and yet, this was her first public appearance at a social event.
Mrs. White deliberately highlighted the association.
The intention was clear for the guests to see: the White family was far from isolated, with an esteemed individual like Janna, despite not attending in person, sending her heir to represent her.
Darwin stood among the crowd. His eyes fixed on the screen featuring the graceful and charming Chelsea, with the buzz of the crowd in his ears.
In his mind, the image of their last goodbye, and the blur of a plane crash, flashed rapidly before settling on that radiant smile on the screen.
He found her!
