Chapter 1230
"Yeah, it's fair and saves us from all the bickering," Lucian said, glancing at Wyatt. "Wyatt, how about we run the Durham Group together?"
"Hold up," Fiona interrupted, raising her hand.
Henry handed over a file folder. "Mr. Durham, congrats in advance on inheriting the Durham Group and becoming its chairman. This is a gift from the Rhoads Group and the Solomon Group."
Wyatt was taken aback.
Fiona opened the folder, looked around the room, and finally locked eyes with Lucian. "Here are Janna and the shares of the Durham Group that my husband and I own, exactly 7%. All the paperwork is done, and from this moment, we're giving them to Wyatt for free."
The room went wild.
"7%? With the shares the Durham family already has, they control over 40% now?"
"More than that! Plus, there are several major shareholders backing Wyatt!"
"Mrs. Solomon, this is out of line, isn't it?" Lucian, clearly pissed, stood up and shouted at Fiona, his face cold. "This is an internal shareholders' meeting of the Durham Group. You can listen in, but you have no voting rights!"
"Who said anything about voting?" Fiona looked at Lucian, confused. "I bought these shares with my own money, and now I'm giving them to Wyatt. What does this have to do with you, Mr. Montgomery?"
"The more shares the Durham family holds, the harder it will be for some people to sell the Durham Group!" Zebedee sneered.
Lately, he had been on edge, knowing Lucian was scheming with overseas investors to break up and sell the Durham Group.
Lucian was waiting to get the Durham family's shares so he could have the final say in selling the company.
Zebedee was super anxious.
When he heard Wyatt was back, he rushed to the Durham family overnight.
He didn't have a great impression of Wyatt initially. But he had to pick a side.
Joining Lucian was a no-go, so Zebedee reluctantly chose Wyatt.
After striking a deal and chatting with Wyatt, he realized Wyatt had set a trap for Lucian.
No matter how today's shareholders' meeting turned out, Lucian would be ousted as acting chairman and would have to sell his shares within two weeks.
Fiona's move was an unexpected twist, leveling the vote that might have been lost.
"Zebedee Whitlock!" Lucian roared.
"Mr. Montgomery, weren't you all generous just now? Not getting elected shouldn't make you this mad, right?" Henry chimed in.
Lucian's breathing quickened.
He glanced at the vote.
Then he looked at Wyatt, trying to steady his breath. "Wyatt, the Durham Group is a mess right now. Selling the company is for everyone's benefit. The Durham Group is like a bottomless pit. If we don't cash out soon, everyone's money will be drained. I'm thinking of everyone's best interest!"
"You're incompetent, so you think the Durham Group is a mess," Wyatt shot back.
Lucian was momentarily stunned.
It was like he saw Evander standing in front of him twenty years ago.
Lucian said, "Originally, my dad intended for me to marry you, but Gideon intervened!" Evander, dignified and elegant, looked at him. "Not being able to marry the person you want is your incompetence. What right do you have to discuss such an embarrassing matter of incompetence in front of me?"
"Fine!" Lucian sneered, "I'll see how capable you are and how you plan to revive this dead and decaying tree!"
