Chapter 1385
Rose didn't head to the café. Instead, she slipped into the restroom next door. Once inside, she closed the stall door, pulled out another phone from her bag, and sent a message: [Is the special care patient getting discharged at the end of the month?]
The reply came quickly: [I just got back to the lab. Not sure yet, so hang tight for my update.]
Rose texted back: [Leto, I'm counting on you. I'll make it up to you once this is over.]
Without waiting for a response, Rose stashed the phone away and headed to the café. She ordered two coffees, just the way Fiona liked them.
As she was leaving, she had this weird feeling like someone was watching her. Startled, she glanced around. People were bustling about, but no one seemed out of place. She shook her head, trying to shake off the feeling. It must be her nerves playing tricks on her.
Rose looked at the coffees in her hand, took a deep breath, and hurried back to Fiona.
Meanwhile, at the lab, Hubert gathered all the medical staff responsible for Darwin's care in his office. "Good news," he announced. "After a thorough evaluation, Mr. Solomon's recovery is on track. His family has requested that he end his treatment and return to Armie at the end of the month."
Everyone was taken aback. "Mr. Graham, Mr. Solomon's condition has improved, but isn't it too soon to end the treatment?" someone asked.
Hubert waved off their concerns. "Don't worry; we have other plans. None of you have taken a vacation since Mr. Solomon arrived. After he's discharged, you'll all get a month off. Start planning now."
The room buzzed with excitement at the news of a vacation. After the meeting, the group filed out of Hubert's office.
One of the therapists, fresh out of the restroom, bumped into someone. "Leto, watch where you're going!" the therapist grumbled, rubbing his forehead.
"Sorry!" Leto Murphy apologized profusely. "I heard you guys are getting a vacation? The guy in the special ward is getting better?"
The therapist, in high spirits, didn't answer directly. "Did the pharmacy get the memo too?"
Leto, a pharmacist at the lab, nodded. "I really envy you guys, getting a whole month off," he said wistfully.
The therapist chuckled. "You guys get regular vacations. What's there to envy? Work hard, Leto. Don't you want to impress that girl you like? Without a good salary, she won't be interested." With that, the therapist walked away.
Leto stood there, straightened his tie, and pulled out his phone to text the girl he liked: [Confirmed, the gentleman will be discharged at the end of the month.]
That evening, back in Bay City, a heavy snowfall began to cover the streets. As Fiona wrapped up her meeting and was about to leave the office, she saw Rose by the elevator, trying to hail a cab. The sudden snow had made it tough to get a ride, and Rose had been waiting for ages.
"Can't get a cab?" Fiona asked.
Rose looked a bit flustered. "I can get one; I just need to wait."
