Chapter 1466
"Chicago." Charlotte turned around.
She saw Chicago sitting on the steps, hugging her knees. Even without seeing her face, Charlotte could sense her unhappiness.
Chicago looked up.
She wasn't crying, but she was very upset.
"Why did Ethan do this?" Chicago asked Charlotte, confused. "We had such a great time that summer."
Charlotte walked over and sat down next to her.
"What happened?"
"He dropped out of school, ran away from his host family, and no one has found him yet. Anna said he's hiding on purpose, not wanting Mom to find him."
"Chicago, you don't need to worry about why," Charlotte said, looking at her.
Her beautiful eyes were like a deep, calm pool.
"If this is the life Ethan chose, we just need to respect and wish him well," Charlotte continued.
Chicago hung her head.
"So we'll never see him again?"
"Who knows? We're still so young," Charlotte said, looking into the distance. "People who are meant to meet again will eventually find each other."
These words made Chicago feel even more sorrowful.
She reached out and hooked her pinky finger around Charlotte's.
Charlotte glanced at her.
Chicago's eyes were brimming with tears. "Charlotte, will you leave me?"
Chicago had that look that made anyone who saw her want to give her the best things in the world to cheer her up. Her nose was red, making her look incredibly pitiful.
"Probably," Charlotte replied.
Chicago's tears fell instantly.
"Chicago, not only will I leave you, but you will also leave me," Charlotte said gently, wiping her tears. "But just like I read in a book, the separation of the arrow and the target is for the next reunion. Leaving isn't the end of the world, as long as we can reunite again!"
Chicago was still young.
She didn't understand.
She wanted everyone she loved to stay together forever.
"Will you ask Mrs. Solomon about Ethan?" Charlotte asked.
Chicago thought for a moment and shook her head lightly. "If I'm sad, she'll be sad too. I don't want Mom to be sad."
Charlotte patted Chicago's head. "Chicago, you're so sweet."
At midnight.
Everyone gathered outside.
The fireworks they missed two years ago finally lit up the night sky.
Darwin stood next to Fiona.
Watching her excitedly point at the special fireworks in the sky, his heart was filled with joy.
As the countdown ended.
Darwin hugged her and kissed her, oblivious to everyone around them. "Happy New Year, honey. May all your wishes come true."
Fiona smiled and nodded. "May everything go smoothly."
The fireworks illuminated the night sky.
And the faces of everyone looking up at them.
Fiona and Darwin held hands tightly and instinctively looked at Charles and Chicago standing next to them.
Charles was intently watching the fireworks.
Chicago had her eyes closed, hands clasped together, praying to the fireworks.
Fiona was curious.
She instinctively crouched down to listen.
"Please, please, let Ethan be okay."
