Chapter 1281

Wyatt was on the other line. After a brief pause, he said, "Got it."

Fiona hung up and grabbed a box of tomatoes, ready to pay.

Janna stopped her. "Check out what you picked."

Without a word, she grabbed another box and asked, "Is it Wyatt from the Durham Family?"

"Yeah, he's back," Fiona nodded.

Janna finished picking her tomatoes and casually said, "His mom had a breakdown."

Fiona was shocked. "What happened?"

"She lost it," Janna said, glancing at Fiona. "I heard she ran into someone she knew. After she got home and started eating, she began to cry, and then she just lost it. She doesn't talk, just gives this cold smile sometimes."

"When did this happen?" Fiona suddenly remembered what Stella mentioned last night about running into Wyatt's mom.

"About two weeks ago," Janna handed the tomatoes to Stuart.

Janna linked arms with Fiona and headed to another section. "I looked into it; it was probably Ms. White she ran into."

"Stella did say yesterday she saw her in the capital," Fiona said.

"Mrs. Durham is just too controlling. Coming from old money, they don't get what era we're in now," Janna shook her head. "Lately, she's fallen from grace. Maybe seeing the love between Stella and Alexander, thinking about the emotional damage she caused, and Wyatt's disappearance, all of it might have pushed her over the edge."

The real situation wasn't much different from Janna's guess.

That day, Evander set up a meeting with some wealthy women she used to be close with, hoping for some help.

She had prepared meticulously, and those women showed up in glamorous outfits, but they spent the whole time mocking her, like they wanted to throw all the past insults back at her.

In the past, even if these people spoke to her harshly, Evander would have slammed the table.

But that day, she pretended not to understand their sarcasm all afternoon.

When they were satisfied, they dropped the act.

"Mrs. Durham, doesn't feel good to be mocked, does it?"

"Your attitude towards us back then was way worse. We're all well-mannered; we can't stoop to your level."

"If you hadn't stopped Wyatt and Ms. White from being together, would the Durham Family be in this mess?"

"My kid has interacted with Ms. White too, says she's very kind, and all that stuff online about her was lies. Honestly, if things hadn't been exposed, and Ms. White had married Alexander long ago, I'd help my son pursue her."

"Mrs. Durham is a prime example, isn't she? Mr. Durham pampered you all your life, and in the end, it all fell apart in your hands."

"But I know the Durham Group is under attack from all sides. If it weren't for your son's friends supporting you, you'd be homeless by now. Let me give you some advice: while there are still people willing to buy your shares at a high price, take the money and go abroad to avoid your enemies."

"Exactly, if you can't handle it, what's the point of holding on?"

Hearing this, Evander could only squeeze out one sentence. "Wyatt will be back soon!"

She was naturally ridiculed. "Who doesn't know that Wyatt doesn't even acknowledge you as his mother now?"

The gathering ended on a sour note.

Evander sat for a while before settling the bill and leaving.

By then, she was already deeply affected.

She stepped outside to find it was raining.

The driver went to get an umbrella.

She stood there, watching the rain pour down.

At that moment, a familiar figure caught her eye.

Stella ran into the hotel lobby from the rain.

Evander's heart leaped with joy, and she was about to call out to her.
