Chapter 487 Camping

Fiona watched the couple leave and then collapsed onto the sofa.

"Something on your mind? Perhaps, about Thalassa?" Darwin offered Fiona a slice of apple, bringing it to her lips.

Fiona looked at him in mild surprise. "You've really grown, Mr. Darwin. If this had been in the past, you would be splashing jealousy all over."

"My wife doesn't need me, so I've got to grow up, right?" Darwin remarked with a sense of poignancy.
Fiona huffed lightly, savoring the apple, but didn't continue the conversation.

"Darwin, before Charles's surgery, how about we find a place to go camping as a family of four?" Darwin handed her another slice of apple. "Experts say camping is a great bonding activity for families. And since summer is here, we can watch Jessie chase fireflies. Charles and Chicago will love it."

"Just ask the kids. If they're okay with it, then let's go," Fiona replied.

Darwin was thrilled with her response. At last, she wasn't just flat-out refusing.

After Chicago’s classes were over, Darwin called the kids over to talk about the camping trip.

Chicago loved nature. The mere mention of watching Jessie alongside the fireflies had her bouncing with excitement, eager to set off right away.

As usual, Charles was happy to go along with whatever his sister wanted.

And so, the family of four's first bonding trip was set.

Thalassa was nibbling on cherry tomatoes, popping them into her mouth one by one, her gaze lingering from afar on the huddled family of four.

"Living together in the past, I never felt like I was intruding," Thalassa said to Kenny. "But adding Darwin in the mix changes everything. Like now, for instance, I don't want to interrupt, not wanting to disturb that wonderful atmosphere they're having."

Kenny looked at Thalassa with an indulgent gaze.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Trust me, others see us the same way."

Thalassa was all smiles.
Just then, her phone in her pocket buzzed.

Kenny, ever so considerate, took the little pot from her hands.

The incoming call displayed an unfamiliar number.

Thalassa had recently returned to the States to launch her business, and was no stranger to a barrage of calls from unknown numbers each day.

She didn’t think much of it.

Stepping aside, she answered the call.

"Who's this?" Thalassa asked.

"Are you Justin's daughter?" The caller's voice was rough and gruff, not exactly the sound of good news.

"You've got the wrong number." Thalassa's vibe instantly chilled, and she hung up after those words.

Then she blocked the number and even switched her phone to airplane mode.
"What's wrong?"

Kenny walked over.

Thalassa looked at him, her mind not quite caught up, when she found herself saying, "Nothing, wrong number."

After saying that.

She remembered what Fiona had just said.

Instant regret washed over her.

"Their family's going out to dinner tonight. Let's find a place and have a good meal ourselves," Kenny said, his expression betraying no sign of concern.

Thalassa felt even more guilty.

There must be a reason to why someone call and ask if she was Justin's daughter.

She instinctively thought of those people who had come to the company demanding money before.

Perhaps, it could me another money issue.

"Babe?" Just then, Kenny snapped his fingers in front of her.

Thalassa was jolted back to the present.

"Huh?" She looked at Kenny, bewildered.

Kenny patted her head. "I was just asking if you felt like grilled fish or hot pot. Why do you look so worried?"
