Chapter 1456
After that, neither of them spoke again.
Fiona arrived right on time.
She handed the soup to Wyatt. "Is this your bar or something? Every time you come, you're like this."
Wyatt sat up straight, smiling obediently as he took the soup and drank it all in one go. Then he stood up. "I'll take this back to the kitchen myself. You guys have had a long day, go rest. I promised Chicago I'd take her out for breakfast tomorrow morning. You should join us!"
With that, Wyatt headed towards the kitchen.
Fiona looked worried. "Darwin, should I go put away the knives in the kitchen?"
Darwin laughed and took her hand. "He won't do anything."
Fiona thought about it and agreed.
Wyatt was long past the days of constant complaints.
Out in the world, he was always that charming, smooth-talking guy.
But occasionally, when he came here, he would show a bit of his vulnerability.
Before heading to her room, Fiona checked on Charles and Chicago.
Chicago was always exhausted, falling asleep almost as soon as she hit the bed.
Fiona checked the room's temperature and gently covered her with the blanket she had kicked off.
She bent down and kissed her forehead.
Darwin came over and gave her a kiss too, and they both left Chicago's room one after the other.
The light was still on in Charles's room.
Fiona thought for a moment and decided not to knock.
He was probably preparing for their trip.
She sent Charles a message.
[Sweetie, don't stay up too late. You've been overdoing it lately.]
Charles replied after a while, [Already in bed. Goodnight, Mom.]
[Goodnight, sweetie.]
Fiona put down her phone, and Darwin immediately clung to her, wrapping his arms around her waist, being all affectionate.
"What's up?" Fiona asked.
His clinginess was even more than Chicago's.
"Just want to hold you," Darwin replied.
"Darwin, do you really have to get all clingy every time you see Wyatt?" Fiona teased, seeing right through him. "You two are fundamentally different. You can't compare yourselves."
"I know, I'm very loyal. I'd never mess around!" Darwin declared.
Fiona laughed.
To be honest, Stella was much more forgiving than she was.
If Darwin ever acted like Wyatt, even once, no matter how much he liked her, she wouldn't have him.
Fiona cupped his chin, looking at him with gentle eyes.
Darwin propped himself up and kissed her decisively.
In the midst of their busy lives, Fiona turned off the bedroom light, leaving only a dim lamp on.
That night, as Darwin was filled with emotion, he said "I love you" countless times.
It was as if he was afraid Fiona didn't know how deep his love ran.
He wanted to bare his heart, to show her his true feelings.
Seeing his true heart, she would forget the past and only remember the Darwin who loved and cherished her deeply.
Lately, every night, a quiet rain would fall over Bay City.
Watching the raindrops on the window, Darwin used the remote to close the curtains.
Then he gently pulled the drowsy Fiona into his arms and gave her a long, tender kiss.
"Darwin."
"Yes?"
Fiona, too sleepy to keep her eyes open, lightly brushed her fingers across Darwin's cheek and whispered, "I love you, too."
