Chapter 61 Going to the Nursing Home

After letting it all out, Thalassa slumped back, tears welling up as she looked at Fiona. "Fiona, maybe you should just bail and not worry about anything! I don't think Darwin would really hurt innocent people! Wouldn't Miss Ross stop him?"

Fiona felt a bit helpless. "He really would."

If she didn't get Darwin's methods and knew he always meant what he said, how could she be pushed around like this?

"I can't risk you or the people I care about," Fiona continued.

She didn't have many close relationships.

The few people around her couldn't be dragged into her mess.

"But he's getting married, how can you keep this up?" Thalassa was frantic.

"That's why I need to find a way out without Darwin going after the people around me," Fiona said slowly, deep in thought.

"What can I do?" Thalassa asked urgently.

Fiona looked at her. "For now, you need to stay away from that idiot Rupert!"

"Of course!" Thalassa replied.

At first, Fiona saw a bit of Dagwood in Rupert and felt some affection, but it never turned into anything real.

Later, because of Darwin, Rupert humiliated her to the extreme, and Fiona lost all feelings for him.

But now, no matter what Rupert's intentions were, he used Thalassa, and Fiona was completely done with him.

"You said you were moving out yesterday, are you going back to his place?" Thalassa asked.

"I'm moving back to my old apartment, he doesn't live there," Fiona said.

Just then, her phone rang.

She took it out and her expression darkened slightly. "Ms. Garcia?" Thalassa asked.

"Anniston, Darwin's mom," Fiona said.

Before Thalassa could react, she answered the call, "Ms. Garcia."

"Are you busy?" Anniston asked.

"No, go ahead."

"Darwin's grandma is making a fuss because she wants to see you," Anniston said coldly, "If you're free, come over."

Fiona had no feelings for the Solomon family.

Given her status, few in the Solomon family treated her kindly, except for Brooke. She had only taken care of her once, and Brooke had taken a liking to her.

"Okay, I'll be there soon." Fiona was about to hang up.

Anniston's voice came again. "Ms. Woods, you saw Hathaway last night, didn't you?"

"Yes."

"What do you think of her?"

"She's very beautiful, friendly, and gentle."

"That doesn't mean she's easy to bully." Anniston laughed. "She's the youngest daughter of the Ross family, very pampered. Her parents and brothers have never been soft on those who try to harm her."

"Ms. Garcia, you don't need to beat around the bush. I know you're trying to threaten me to leave your son." Fiona took a deep breath. "But before that, shouldn't you figure out what's really going on?"

Anniston was stunned on the other line.

Because Fiona had always been meek and submissive in front of Anniston, no matter how much she was insulted, she seemed to not hear it, always appearing easy to bully. Her sudden assertiveness caught Anniston off guard.

"I know very well what's going on, it's you who doesn't!" Anniston raised her voice.

"Really?" Fiona sneered, "Then you also know that I've resigned and left Bay City, and your son used my friends and family to coerce me into coming back?"

"What?" Anniston was shocked. "What nonsense are you talking about? Clearly, you're the shameless one clinging to Darwin!"

"Whether I'm talking nonsense or not, you can check for yourself." Fiona snapped, losing her patience. "If you can get your son to stop bugging me, I'd be super grateful!"

With that, she hung up.

Thalassa, sitting beside her, was totally floored.

After a moment, she said, "You're so badass, I love it!"

Fiona smiled weakly. "I gotta go see Mrs. Solomon. You go do your thing and don't overthink it."

"You're not the Solomon family's nanny, why do you have to see Mrs. Solomon?" Thalassa grumbled.

"She's different." Fiona squeezed her fingers. "Being around her sometimes makes me feel like my grandma's still here."

Thalassa was taken aback.

She hugged Fiona and started crying again.

When Thalassa learned about what happened five years ago from Rupert, she felt a pang of sadness and pain thinking about Fiona's suffering and helplessness at that time.

After comforting Thalassa, Fiona drove to the nursing home in the suburbs.

Passing by a fruit stand, she saw the strawberries looking so red and appealing, and she knew Brooke liked strawberries, so she bought a box.

When she arrived at the nursing home, Brooke had just woken up from her nap.

She was acting like a child, throwing a tantrum with the caregiver.

"Ms. Woods, you're here!" The caregiver looked up and saw Fiona, her eyes filled with tears of relief. "Mrs. Solomon, look who's here?"

Brooke turned her head.

When she saw Fiona, she immediately smiled. "Fiona's here!"

Fiona also smiled, walked over, and squatted in front of her. "Let me see, who's being naughty and throwing a tantrum?"

"Not me!" Brooke immediately became serious.

The caregiver sighed in relief.

Brooke happily held Fiona's hand.

She was holding something in her right hand, so Brooke held her left hand.

As soon as she held it, Brooke's expression changed.

Fiona tried to pull her hand back, but Brooke held on and started crying, "you're hurt!"

Fiona panicked. "It's nothing, Mrs. Solomon. Look, I bought you something." She tried to divert Brooke's attention.

Brooke, sniffling, looked at the strawberries and slowly stopped crying.

"I'll wash some!" The caregiver quickly took the strawberries, picked out a few big, plump ones, washed them, and dried them.

Fiona took one and fed it to Brooke.

Brooke took a bite and smiled. "Sweet!"

After eating two strawberries, her mood improved.

Fiona sighed in relief.

Unexpectedly, after finishing the strawberries, Brooke tenderly held Fiona's left hand and gently kissed it.

Fiona was stunned.

Brooke's aged hand gently stroked her head. "I kissed the wound, and Fiona won't hurt anymore!"

Fiona's eyes instantly reddened.

She rested her cheek on Brooke's lap, covered with a thin blanket. "It really doesn't hurt anymore."

The caregiver inexplicably teared up as well.

The Solomon family had many descendants, and they were willing to spend money on Brooke, providing her with the best food and care, but no one was as close to Brooke as Fiona.

The afternoon sun was warm, without being harsh.

Fiona pushed Brooke outside, found a spot, and read to her.

Although Brooke was confused, she loved having someone read to her.

The moment was rare and peaceful.

"Miss!" While reading, a little girl ran over.

Fiona closed the book. "What's up?"

"My ball fell into the water, can you help me get it back?" the little girl asked in her sweet childlike voice.

Fiona thought of the child in her own belly.
