Chapter 1225

"Hey Darwin, we just got back from the hospital. Let's head upstairs and change before we see Melissa," Fiona said, tugging on Darwin's arm as he made his way to the living room.

Kenny shot a quick glance at Fiona.

Fiona avoided his gaze and then went upstairs with Darwin.

Once in the room, Darwin went to the closet and swapped his clothes for something more casual.

When he came out, Fiona pulled him to sit on the bed.

"Darwin, when we go downstairs, don't hold Melissa too much. If you do, she'll always want to be held, and that's not good," she said softly.

Darwin didn't see any issue with that.

He nodded. "Got it."

Then, out of nowhere, he hugged Fiona. "If I can't hold Melissa, I'd rather hold you."

Fiona giggled and hugged him back. "Darwin, after the camping trip, I want you to come with me to Elysium."

"Elysium? Why? Work?" Darwin asked, confused.

"Yeah," Fiona replied.

"Alright, when are we going? I'll sort things out at work." Darwin agreed without hesitation.

"The day after tomorrow."

"That soon?"

"Yeah, it's urgent," Fiona said, glancing out the window.

The leaves in the small grove were starting to turn yellow again.

Another year had passed, and she thought the hard times with Darwin were over, but the biggest challenge had just arrived.

Would things be better this time next year?

Fiona did not ponder further.

She didn't even dare to think if everything would be okay next month, let alone next year.

When Fiona and Darwin went downstairs, Melissa was no longer in the living room.

"She got tired from playing, drank her milk, and fell asleep," Ashton said.

This was the first time she had met Darwin since learning about his illness.

Ashton tried his best to hide any signs of unusual emotions.

They didn't have lunch at Emerald Pool.

Ashton and Kenny didn't bring Melissa either, leaving her with the nanny and Stuart.

They picked a restaurant near Charles and Chicago's school for lunch.

Finally finding an opportunity, Fiona and Ashton went to the restroom.

Out of Darwin's sight, Fiona said to Ashton, "Thanks."

Ashton knew exactly why Fiona was thanking her.

"I didn't think much of it; it was Kenny who noticed your unease," Ashton said, linking arms with Fiona. "You don't have to be so cautious. Isn't Mr. Graham's medication working well? He seems pretty normal now."

Fiona sighed softly.

"Being cautious is always good. Melissa is too young," she murmured.

Ashton was quiet for a moment.

Then, she said, "I just don't get why Darwin would develop a personality that wants you dead."

She had been thinking about this for the past few days.

Darwin used to be a jerk.

But he gradually changed, becoming great with the kids and Fiona, even being kind to her.

He loved Fiona so much; how could he develop a side that wanted her dead?

She couldn't figure it out.

"Do you know Adien?" Fiona asked.
