Chapter 1297

People tend to mess up the most when they're super angry.

When you're all caught up in anger, it messes with your head.

Lucian, though, could keep his cool and roll with the punches.

So, even when Gideon was running the show and Lucian had a bunch of unresolved stuff, he managed to steer clear of trouble.

This kind of guy often made others think he was harmless.

But once that harmless act was blown, and folks realized he was messing with their interests all along and might keep doing it, he was in trouble.

Lucian glanced at Fiona, sweat trickling down his forehead.

She was pushing his buttons on purpose.

She wanted to rile up his people so she could use it to sway the undecided shareholders and pull them over to Wyatt's side.

Samuel looked like he wanted to say something.

Lucian shot him a look that shut him up.

Samuel was fuming, but he kept quiet.

"No matter what benefits Wyatt has brought to the Durham Group, the fact is he's been working for the group's good and has done better than I have," Lucian said warmly, looking at Wyatt. "Wyatt, everything's been reviewed, and you've hit your goal. I'm a bit tired, so let's vote."

He knew if he let Wyatt keep stalling and teaming up with Fiona, he might lose more ground.

So he decided to call it and give in.

Lucian had the Durham Group's shares all figured out.

The family shares couldn't be controlled by one person, and the shares he had confirmed so far could beat Wyatt's.

Even though Fiona had stirred things up earlier, if some onlookers changed their minds, it wouldn't be a big deal since they were just small shareholders.

"Alright," Wyatt replied, "It's definitely better to settle these losses after electing the chairman."

Lucian held back a laugh.

Wyatt was always like this, confident because of the Durham family's favor.

Lucian thought the whole Stella incident should've taught him a lesson.

But Wyatt was still foolishly confident. He still thought the Durham Group was the same as before he left, dreaming that as long as he came back, he'd get all the major shareholders' support.

The notary quickly came into the room.

Each shareholder had a voting device, red for Lucian and blue for Wyatt.

The voting only took a few seconds.

The notary went to tally the votes.

The room was tense.

Suddenly, Lucian spoke up, "Wyatt, how's your mom doing?"

Everyone turned to look at Wyatt.

Thanks to Lucian, news of Evander's breakdown had spread among the shareholders last night.

Evander was also a Durham Group shareholder.

When she married into the Durham family, those shares were a gift from the family.

Evander wasn't clueless. In the early years, she did some work for the Durham Group.

The Kingsley family had helped Gideon a lot; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to compete so smoothly with his brothers for the chairman spot.

But Evander was super arrogant and had ticked off a lot of people here.
