Chapter 65 She Wanted to Punch his Face in
"You shameless bastard!" Fiona spat, her eyes blazing.
"Yeah, well, you're the only one who's ever seen me like this," Darwin said, smirking as he helped her button up her shirt.
The crimson kiss marks were hidden under her shirt, and Darwin wasn't satisfied.
He yanked her back and planted another hickey behind her ear.
Fiona was ready to murder him.
"All set," Darwin said, looking pleased with himself.
"Get lost!" Fiona tried to kick him.
But Darwin caught her leg and wrapped it around his waist.
Fiona's cheeks were burning red.
When it came to sex, she was always outmatched by Darwin.
Probably because he was shameless and totally domineering!
Darwin kissed her bruised cheek, and Fiona felt a faint sting.
"No matter what happens today, I got your back," Darwin whispered.
Maybe that's how it was when you felt wronged.
Knowing someone had your back unconditionally made you feel even more aggrieved.
"What if Mrs. Solomon is really hurt? What then?" Fiona asked.
Without Stuart's intervention, Brooke would have been hurt for sure.
"I don't know," Darwin admitted, "but I wouldn't let you go."
"Have you thought about it? Today's mess is probably your mom's doing. As long as I'm around, this stuff will keep happening," Fiona continued.
Darwin hugged her gently and patted her hand.
"I promise, this is the last time. She won't get another chance," he said seriously.
Fiona said nothing.
She rested her chin on Darwin's shoulder.
She just felt exhausted.
She was willing to fight for her career but not for something that only drained her energy.
Darwin comforted her by stroking her back.
For once, there was no tension between them.
But the peace didn't last long.
A knock on the door shattered the moment.
Fiona, reacting instinctively, pushed Darwin away.
Darwin's face darkened.
"Who is it?" he asked, his tone icy.
"Darwin, your grandmother is awake and asking for Ms. Woods," Hathaway said.
Fiona thought of Darwin's earlier, almost bewitching question. "Isn't it even more inappropriate?"
"Okay." Fiona tried to get off the table.
Darwin grabbed her waist and pushed her back.
Fiona lowered her voice. "What are you doing!"
Darwin stood in front of her, silent.
Fiona clenched her fists.
She wanted to punch his face in.
Thinking that someone was waiting outside and that staying too long might arouse suspicion, she quickly leaned in and kissed Darwin.
Just as she was about to pull back, he held the back of her head and deepened the kiss.
This time, Fiona really punched him several times.
Luckily, Darwin soon let her go.
Fiona hurriedly got off the table and walked quickly to the door.
Opening it, she saw Hathaway was still outside.
Seeing Fiona, she smiled warmly but then looked a bit worried. "Your face?"
"It's fine." Fiona shook her head. "I'll go see Mrs. Solomon first."
With that, she immediately walked away.
Darwin straightened his clothes and slowly walked out.
"You really crossed the line today," Hathaway said bluntly. "How could you just drag her away in front of everyone? Do you know how much crap your relatives just threw at me?"
"You shouldn't have blamed her in front of everyone," Darwin said, adjusting his sleeves like he didn't have a care in the world.
Hathaway stiffened. "I honestly thought it was her fault. Who would've thought someone would use Mrs. Solomon's safety as leverage? Besides, we haven't even figured out if it's true yet!"
Darwin shrugged. "Either way, don't talk about Fiona again. She's got this. If she can't handle it, I'm her backup. So, chill."
It was a big deal for Darwin to say that Fiona got this.
"Fine, I was meddling too much, okay!" Hathaway snapped, turning away in frustration.
Darwin didn't bother chasing after her; he headed in the opposite direction, towards where Fiona had gone.
Outside Brooke's hospital room, the Solomon family members were sitting around in small groups.
Seeing Fiona return, they either rolled their eyes or sneered.
"Ms. Woods." The nurse looked at Fiona nervously.
Fiona basically took the fall for the mess today.
The nurse had diarrhea all afternoon, probably because she ate something bad for lunch and got sick.
Otherwise, even if Fiona had left briefly, Brooke would still have had someone by her side.
Fiona shook her head.
She found the coincidence too weird.
The nurse having diarrhea all afternoon was one such coincidence.
"Hey, Lucht." Fiona looked at one of Darwin's bodyguards, Lucht Graves.
"Ms. Woods," Lucht responded, way more respectfully than the Solomon family members.
Having followed Darwin for so long, everyone knew what kind of person Fiona was.
During holidays, when she prepared gifts, she never forgot them.
The gifts she gave were always things they really needed.
It showed that Fiona genuinely cared about them.
So, Lucht, Henry, and the others all respected Fiona.
"Can you arrange for someone to take her for a check-up? I think her lunch was tampered with," Fiona said calmly.
"What?" The nurse was surprised.
The Solomons looked puzzled.
"Fiona, what are you up to?" Hestia asked impatiently.
Fiona ignored her.
Instead, she explained to the frightened nurse, "It should just be a laxative, but it's better to check to be sure."
"Was it lunch?" the nurse asked nervously.
"Did you have diarrhea in the morning?" Fiona asked.
The nurse shook her head. She seemed to remember something. "It really started not long after lunch!"
"Was there anything different from usual?" Fiona asked again.
"It was all from the nursing home cafeteria!" She seemed a bit embarrassed. "Actually, I didn't finish it."
The nursing home's food was very good.
She would always save some good food to take home for her kids.
Thinking that today's food might have been poisoned, she felt a wave of fear.
"That's great, we can test the leftovers, and you won't have to suffer as much. Lucht, please take care of it." Fiona nodded slightly.
"Got it!" Lucht called someone over to go with the nurse to get the leftovers.
