Chapter 66 I'll Find You a Better Man!

In the hospital room, this strange woman was standing behind Anniston.

Sweat was dripping down her forehead.

Anniston looked pale but kept it together.

The door creaked open.

Brooke, who was sniffling, immediately turned her head.

Fiona's tough exterior melted away, and she flashed a sweet smile. "Mrs. Solomon, you're awake?"

"Yeah!" Brooke nodded, grinning like a kid.

Ignoring Anniston and the other woman, Fiona strolled over and gently asked, "Still scared?"

Brooke looked all pouty. "Where'd you go?"

"Grandma, I had to chat with Fiona about something," Darwin said as he walked in.

Seeing Darwin made Brooke light up.

But her joy was short-lived.

She started nagging, "When are you two tying the knot?"

Darwin instinctively glanced at Fiona.

Fiona kept smiling. "Mrs. Solomon, I've told you a million times, I'm Mr. Solomon's secretary, we're not getting hitched."

"Then who are you gonna marry? My grandson's a catch!" Brooke was getting anxious.

"Mom, haven't you met Hathaway? She's Darwin's wife! They're already planning the wedding!" Anniston chimed in, sounding all proud.

Brooke's face got serious.

But she didn't cry or throw a fit like last time.

She grabbed Fiona's hand, like she was making a big decision. "That woman ain't as pretty as you! I'll find you a better man!"

Darwin stayed quiet.

"Alright! Then I'll wait for you to get better and help me find a better man!" Fiona said sweetly.

"Okay, I'll be better by tomorrow!"

Anniston found it super annoying.

The Solomon family, for the past two generations, had men who were pretty useless, with women running the show.

During the war-torn era, Brooke single-handedly kept the Solomon Group afloat.

Maybe because she had to be tough, she was always super strict.

She never treated Anniston, her daughter-in-law, as kindly as she treated Fiona.

"Want more strawberries?" Fiona asked, fixing Brooke's slightly messy silver hair.

Brooke nodded. "Yes!"

"But you've already had a few this afternoon, so just two more, okay?" Fiona coaxed her like a kid.

Darwin watched, feeling all warm inside.

No wonder Brooke liked her so much. Fiona washed two strawberries, plucked off the green stems, and brought them to Brooke.

Brooke took the strawberries and ate them slowly, deep in thought.

Fiona didn't bug her.

Darwin sat at the foot of the bed.

Anniston looked at him, feeling ticked off. "Where's Hathaway?"

"I don't know," Darwin replied coldly.

Anniston was fuming. "She didn't do anything wrong!"

"And what about you?" Darwin looked at her, his gaze intense.

"Darwin..."

"Can you argue outside? You'll scare Mrs. Solomon," Fiona said, turning her head, a bit annoyed.

Anniston almost laughed in anger.

A mistress kept in the shadows dared to speak to her like this?

"Yeah, argue outside, don't scare Fiona!" Brooke also said sternly.

Anniston bit her lip until it almost bled.

"You should leave," Darwin said, not even looking at Anniston.

Anniston took a deep breath.

She thought, 'Staying here a second longer is torture!'

Anniston stood up and left without saying a word to Brooke.

That woman naturally followed Anniston out.

The hospital room door clicked shut.

With those two gone, the room got weirdly quiet.

Fiona ignored Darwin.

She picked up the book she hadn't finished earlier. "Brooke, should I keep reading from where we left off?"

"Yes." Brooke nodded.

She looked at Fiona with loving eyes.

She had once had a daughter.

But sadly, her daughter died during the chaotic times, protecting her sister's kid.

Now, her sister's kids lived the high life, but after she got sick, they never visited.

Darwin sat there, quietly watching Fiona read.

A small lamp lit her up, making her look extra gentle.

He had once enjoyed the exclusive privilege of her gentleness.

Darwin felt a tightness in his chest.

He thought about what Brooke had said about finding her a better man.

Darwin's heart suddenly ached.

Would she marry someone else?

Immediately, he shut that thought down.

No way.

Even if he had to keep her by his side forever, even if she hated him forever, she wouldn't marry someone else.

Fiona tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

Darwin's eyes fell on the spot where he had just left a mark.

Time slowly ticked by.

The complaints outside got louder.

The sky grew darker.

Henry finally showed up.

Brooke had been successfully lulled to sleep by Fiona.

Turning off the room's light, Fiona handed over the shift to the nurse.

The nurse looked at her gratefully, and Fiona patted her arm, sharing a silent moment.

Then she left the room with Darwin.

"What did you find out?" Hestia asked loudly.

Henry said, "Mr. Solomon, we asked a bunch of people, and they all said they saw two kids. Since we couldn't check the internal surveillance, we searched the premises and the surveillance data at several exits. First, there was no record of the two kids entering in the past three days, and no one inside knew whose kids they were. Second, there was no footage of the kids leaving, and we couldn't find them inside."

Darwin sneered, "So they just appeared and then vanished into thin air?"

Henry continued, "We're still checking the vehicles that came in and out today. So far, three cars look suspicious, but it'll take time to track them down."

"Is that all?" Anniston sneered, "Darwin, you're really going all out to clear your secretary's name, huh?"

"The test results for the nurse's food are out," Lucht said, holding his phone. "There were indeed substances that could cause stomach issues mixed in."

"It could also be that Fiona teamed up with the nurse, or the nurse has bad character and was set up," Hestia said sharply, "We should replace the nurse no matter what!"

Fiona looked at Hestia. "You're so eager to shift the blame, could it be you who did it?"

Hestia got agitated. "You're talking nonsense! You're just trying to pin it on someone else to dodge responsibility because there's no surveillance, right?"

Before Fiona could speak, a warm voice came from behind her. "Maybe I arrived just in time?"

Fiona turned around.

She saw the tall Stuart and the elegant silver-haired elderly woman walking towards her.
