Chapter 1508

Chicago nodded and leaned her head on Fiona's shoulder.

"How old are you, still acting like a baby?" Fiona teased, but she adjusted her position to make Chicago more comfortable. "So, that guy you were talking to the other night, was that Ethan?"

Chicago nodded again.

"He's grown up well, still looks a lot like he did as a kid, but even more handsome now," Fiona complimented. "So, what's going on between you two now?"

"We just ran into each other," Chicago yawned. "Mom, don't overthink it. He's got a fiancée, and I'm not into his type."

"Don't be silly, you used to like him a lot when you were little," Fiona teased with a smile.

"Well, I've grown up, and my tastes have changed," Chicago said, swinging her legs.

"Is it because he's with Wholesome Corporation and competing with our family that you're annoyed with him?" Fiona asked gently.

"Maybe a little. Anyone competing with our family annoys me," Chicago admitted. Then she sat up straight, looking at Fiona. "Mom, you know he's with Wholesome Corporation..."

"I only found out about a year ago," Fiona nodded.

Chicago suddenly understood. "So that's why you stopped competing and sold that part of the business to them?"

"Ethan and his team are indeed better in that area. The Solomon Group has so many ventures, letting go of one that doesn't impact us much was the best decision. Your father made some mistakes before, and after weighing all the options, selling that part of the business was the best move."

"What about Burl and his side?"

"That has nothing to do with Ethan. Burl was indeed beaten badly and, after discussing with Kenny, they decided to switch tracks early."

Chicago nodded thoughtfully and joked, "That guy's pretty impressive." Fiona watched Chicago's expression, then she looked away, just as she expected. "So, what are you planning to do next?" Fiona changed the subject. "Do you want to come to the company and help me out?"

"I want to clear my head for a bit. I'm thinking of doing some volunteer work in a few days."

"That's fine." Fiona always respected her children's decisions.

Chicago slumped back against Fiona, like she had no bones.

She buried her head into Fiona's shoulder.

Fiona gently stroked her cheek. Suddenly, a koi fish in the lake leaped out of the water, performing a beautiful flip.

Chicago was quick to act.

After spending three days at home with Fiona, she packed her bags and headed to an ancient church in the south.

Janna was religious and donated a lot of money to this church every year.

When Chicago arrived, the church staff didn't restrict her much.

She spent her days studying the centuries-old murals and statues in the church. In two weeks, she filled two sketchbooks.

One day, a priest quietly led her to the back of a statue, where there was a large circle of carved murals on the wall.

She leaned over to sketch and accidentally fell asleep. When she woke up, she smelled a high-quality sandalwood scent, which was different from the incense the church usually burned. Groggy and curious, she crawled forward like a kitten.

Peeking past the barrier, she was slightly taken aback.

A man in a stern black suit was kneeling devoutly before the statue.

His features were strikingly defined, and Chicago especially liked his prominent brow bone.

And those lips, not too thick, not too thin, just right.

She observed the praying man like he was a piece of art.

Then, the man, who had his eyes closed, opened them.

His cool gaze turned to Chicago, who was stunned.
