Chapter 801 Amnesia also As a Gift
"I'm scared, Auntie. I'm truly terrified!" Eleanor choked up, lowering her head. "If it weren't for Chicago yesterday, I would have chosen to jump from upstairs. Living with either my dad or mom is just too dreadful".
Fiona nodded sympathetically. "I understand."
Eleanor timidly glanced at Fiona, unsure if she would help her.
Earlier, Mr. Dashwood mentioned Chicago's parents at the dinner table when he found out that Chicago was a daughter from an old money family. He used harsh words to describe them.
So, when Eleanor found out yesterday that her mom had gone to see Chicago, fear gripped her tightly. But just now, the principal mentioned that Chicago's mom was a kind person, implying that Eleanor could approach her for assistance if needed.
Fiona consoled, "Go ahead and attend your classes; we would take care of the rest of the arrangements for you. If you change your mind and want to reconsider choosing between your dad and mom, or if you wish to meet your mom, you can always speak to the principal."
Eleanor had frozen, not expecting Fiona to agree so readily.
"What's wrong?" Fiona inquired, noticing Eleanor's surprised expression.
After a moment of hesitation, Eleanor asked with a choked voice, "I don't want my mom and dad. Don't you think that I'm a bad kid?"
At home, Eleanor was often scolded as a naughty child. Even if she ate a little more during meals, she would be scolded. If she didn’t comfort her dad promptly when he was in a bad mood due to homework, she would get scolded.
Over time, Eleanor began to doubt if she truly lacked a conscience and was a heartless person.
Fiona looked at the fragile child and gently touched her head. " She raised her hand and lightly touched her head, saying, "Eleanor, you're just trying to make it through. It's your parents' fault for forcing such a young child to fend for herself."
Eleanor had frozen in place. Moments later, she covered her face with her hands, tears streaming down.
She couldn't understand why others could have such loving mothers while she was born into hell.
Fiona stayed briefly at the school. As she boarded the car, Christopher couldn't help but speak, "Fiona, I fear that once you start helping, more people will come seeking your aid."
Fiona lowered her eyes and replied, "Don't worry, this matter ends here. Both Darwin and I will not intervene further."
Christopher nodded helplessly, then drove Fiona to the Solomon Building.
On the other side, Wyatt arrived punctually at Emerald Pool.
"You're recovering pretty nicely, huh?" Wyatt strolled around Darwin twice, nonchalantly passing his verdict. Darwin looked somewhat indifferent. " I'm starting physical therapy next Monday, hoping for a speedy recovery of my leg."
The two of them headed straight to the tearoom.
Wyatt thought of exchanging pleasantries before getting to the point, but Darwin seemed uninterested. "No need for small talk; let's just begin," Darwin said.
Wyatt raised an eyebrow slightly before nodding. "So, where should we start? Ah... let's begin with the year you were late for my birthday, and you had mentioned meeting someone very similar to Lilian..."
Wyatt may see the five years of Darwin and Fiona more clearly than Darwin and Fiona did themselves..
At what point did Darwin develop feelings for Fiona, unbeknownst even to himself?
Wyatt's answer was the third year Fiona was by his side.
During those five years, Darwin once brought Fiona around his friends, albeit briefly. Subsequently, he seemed to sense something amiss and began treating Fiona more harshly and coldly.
In Wyatt's words. "It seems to me you wanted to ensure Fiona wouldn't leave you like Lilian did."
Afterwards, it was the engagement that triggered Fiona's subsequent falling out and resignation.
Darwin, after losing Fiona, began to delve into his inner self, resorting to coercion and violence.
As Wyatt spoke, Darwin's expression grew more serious. It wasn't until when Darwin heard that the near-death situation involving Charles and Chicago on the operating table that his hands trembling uncontrollably. To him, these events sounded like the doings of a stranger—making him feel both ashamed and furious.
"Thank you," Darwin said, his voice shaking with gratitude as Wyatt recounted how he saved the two children.
"That's about it. I don't know much about how you two reconciled and got back together, but Fiona has surely forgiven you."
Wyatt patted Darwin's shoulder. "Darwin, it is undeniable that you have gone through a hard time to have present days. Instead of dwelling on regrets about the past, it's better for you to recover quickly and spend good times with your Fiona, Chicago, and Charles in the days ahead."
"I understand," Darwin replied quietly.
Seeing this, Wyatt didn't delve further into the topic. Instead, he reminisced about their shared past, reflecting on their youthful dreams of founding Solomon.
"When I think about it, it's really emotional. Back when we were young, we wanted to start our own company and founded Solomon. I remember at that time, your greatest desire was to prove yourself to your mother. You never wanted to compete for the family business; you had the capability to build your own career. Over a decade has passed, and your family’s business is almost gone, yet Solomon has emerged as a top company in the industry that many aspire to but cannot surpass.’
Wyatt shook his head, crossing his arms, and let out a long sigh filled with emotions. After Wyatt's remark, Darwin tightened his hand resting on his knee. "Did I really care so much about what my mom thought back then?"
"More than caring." Wyatt shrugged. "But then again, your mom was quite strange. In high society, many mothers would go to great lengths to secure their son's inheritance. Your mother, however, was different. She worried you would compete with her for power even when you were just a toddler. She caused an accident to prevent you from attending some meeting later on, which almost killed you!"
Wyatt paused for a moment before saying. "Darwin, I know it might sound harsh, but ever since you lost your memory, I've been thinking, perhaps this is another gift from god to you."
Some memories were better left forgotten for a cleaner slate. Darwin remained silent for a while before nodding in agreement.
Wyatt extended his legs and unfolded from their tucked position. "There's one more person that I also want to tell you."
Darwin thought it was another jerk move he made. He immediately looked up at Wyatt, waiting for him to continue his trial.
Who knew...
"It was Stella. We knew her when we were teenagers." Wyatt's gaze turned distant as he continued, his complexion paling.
