Chapter 988
Stella thought, ‘What has happened is irreversible. From now on, I must treat Alexander well so as not to betray his decision!'
After lunch, Stella and Alexander did not rest. They joined the volunteers in cleaning the church. Only then did they take their luggage and go to their respective rooms.
Stella had just put away her things when Mason came over to play with her. Stella took Mason to buy an ice pop, and they sat together on the steps where they had sat last time.
"Mason, how did Father Ben react after we left last time?" Stella asked in a low voice.
Mason gave her a wary look. "You don't think a single ice pop is enough to make Mason betray Father Ben, do you?"
"For the sake of reconciling Father Alexander and Father Ben, how can this be called ‘betrayal’?" Stella said righteously, "Can't you see that Father Ben also misses Father Alexander?"
Mason, being simple-minded, lowered his eyes and thought for a moment. Even someone like Mason could tell that Father Ben missed Father Alexander. It was evident how much Father Ben missed him.
Last time, when Father Alexander returned, Father Ben immediately had him bring out all the books that Father Alexander had copied since childhood to air them out. Moreover, when Father Alexander and Stella left, Father Ben came out to see them off.
"No reaction," Mason said truthfully. "But when you left, Father Ben did come out to take a look."
Stella slapped her thigh suddenly. "So we left too early, right?"
Mason was startled. "Stella, even if you left later, Father Ben would only take a distant look. Do you know?"
Stella suddenly lost her spirit.
"Take it slow," Mason said, eating his ice pop. "If you come more often and with sincere intentions, you can overcome any difficulty. Stella, you understand that, right?"
"I thought you were illiterate, Mason," Stella teased him.
"I may not have attended a formal school, but I've read all the books in the church!" Mason said proudly, "I heard from the volunteers that there are many words in the scriptures that you don't recognize and have to ask them!"
Stella was speechless. Why did these volunteers tell Mason everything?!
"The words in your scriptures are very obscure!" Stella defended herself.
What she didn't say was that before dating Wyatt, she had difficulty learning the Latin language. It was only later that she learned it for love.
"Anyway, I am better than you!" Mason said with a calm yet proud expression.
Stella couldn't help but laugh.
She was anxious, but Mason didn't react.
When he heard her laugh, Mason immediately turned to look at her. "Why are you laughing?"
"You're super cute!" Stella pinched Mason's cheek.
Mason looked at Stella and was stunned. He had dreamed of his mother. He couldn't see her face clearly, but his mother smiled just like this in the sunlight, looking particularly beautiful.
"What's wrong?" Stella asked, seeing Mason suddenly dazed. She withdrew her hand and asked somewhat awkwardly, "Did I hurt you?"
Mason turned his head to face forward, looking at the little bird on the ground, and muttered, "It didn't hurt at all."
