Chapter 51 How Long are You Gonna Keep Me Waiting?

Fiona was totally wiped out.

She knew that no matter how much she tried to ditch Darwin, it was a lost cause.

She was just glad he agreed not to get frisky.

The hotel bed was super comfy.

Darwin held her, and before long, she was out like a light.

In a haze, she felt Darwin's soft kisses on her cheeks and ears.

She thought she heard him say, "I shouldn't have said those things at the cemetery when I was pissed. Will you forgive me? It was my bad for treating you like crap before, Fiona. I'll be good to you from now on."

Fiona's heart hurt.

How could Darwin really be sorry or care about her feelings?

How could he make any promises about the future?

Fiona would always remember the harsh words Darwin had said, "Don't think about having a future with me. You're just a stand-in for Lilian. When I get tired and want someone new, I'll let you go."

Fiona didn't sleep well.

In her dream, she was back in a familiar alley.

Pushing open the wooden door, she saw her grandpa, grandma, and mom turn around in the yard.

"Why are you back?" Fiona asked, tears in her eyes.

Before she could say she missed them, Carla slapped her hard. "I gave birth to you so you could sell your body? And he's getting married, yet you still cling to him. You know what this makes you? A mistress! Have you forgotten why you don't have a father? Have you forgotten why I died?"

She no longer had her former grace.

Her face was twisted with hatred. "If I had known you would turn out like this, I would never have given birth to you!"

"Mom!" Fiona was desperate to explain.

But then, a cane swung towards her.

Her grandpa and grandma protected Carla.

"Grandpa, Grandma."

"Get out of this house. We don't have a shameless granddaughter like you!" Fiona's grandpa shouted.

"If I had known the money for my treatment came from this, I would rather have died than let you sell yourself!" Fiona's grandma cried bitterly.

"Mom... Grandpa... Grandma... don't abandon me. I was wrong, I know I was wrong."

"Get out!" Three twisted faces, like demons, lunged at Fiona.

"No!" Fiona woke up from the nightmare.

"What happened?" Darwin's voice pulled her back to reality.

He got up, frowning as he stroked Fiona's back. "Did you have a nightmare?"

Fiona, covered in cold sweat, glanced at him.

The scenes from the dream were so vivid that she even wondered if they had really entered her dream.

She had truly disappointed them.

And it was all thanks to Darwin.

Fiona lowered her eyelids and responded coldly.

Then she lay back down, turning her back to Darwin. "Go back to sleep."

Darwin's hand froze in mid-air.

He had vaguely heard her admitting her mistakes.

Darwin could probably guess what she had dreamed about.

He felt guilt.

After a moment, he lay back down, his body close to Fiona's, holding her from behind.

He buried his face in her slender back.

"I'm sorry," Darwin said softly.

Fiona's thin body shook a bit.

She buried her face deeper into the soft pillow, not saying a word.

The rest of the night was dreamless.

Fiona woke up feeling hot.

Darwin had practically wrapped himself around her like a blanket.

She shifted a bit, and Darwin woke up right away.

"Let go of me, it's hot," Fiona whispered.

Instead of letting go, Darwin held her tighter, kissing her cheeks and nibbling on her neck.

After five years together, he knew exactly how to get under her skin.

"Mr. Solomon, you have a meeting at eight," Fiona said, tilting her head and gasping for air.

Darwin, his voice rough, lifted his head and kissed her lips.

"Fiona, how long are you gonna make me wait?" he asked.

Fiona's face turned red. "Mr. Solomon, if you really need it, you can find someone else..."

Darwin bit her lip.

"Darwin, are you a beast?" Fiona used her knee to push against him.

Darwin grabbed her knee.

His hands were big, and Fiona was thin, so he could hold her with one hand.

"I don't have 'someone else,'" he said in a deep voice, "If you keep talking nonsense, I won't care whether you agree or not."

Fiona fell silent.

His earlier show of weakness was fake.

How could Darwin change his nature?

Fiona gritted her teeth.

"Got it," she replied, "Let go, I'll pick out your clothes."

She decided to endure for now.

Darwin kissed her again. "Once this busy period is over, I'll take you on a vacation, just the two of us."

Fiona was slightly stunned.

In the five years she had been with Darwin, they had traveled all over the world, sleeping in countless places.

But that was for business trips.

When it came to vacations, Darwin mostly spent them with his family.

"I'll see." Fiona knew that they would never reach that day.

She would run away before her belly started to show.

After much effort, she finally escaped Darwin's clingy embrace.

Absentmindedly, she hung up the clothes Darwin would wear today, carefully matching the tie, and when she picked up the cufflinks, which were much more expensive than the ones she had given Darwin, her eyes dimmed a bit.

He probably didn't even know he had lost the cufflinks.

As she was thinking, Darwin hugged her again.

"What are you looking at so intently?" He glanced at the cufflinks.

"Nothing." Fiona handed him the shirt. "Mr. Solomon, change your clothes."

Darwin frowned and pulled her back.

"Why are you in a bad mood so early in the morning?" he asked, frowning.

"I'm not!" Fiona replied, "Mr. Solomon, you should get used to it. I have a bad temper."

"You!" Darwin was about to get angry.

When had he ever lowered himself to coax someone?

He had done so much, what more did she want, why was she still unhappy?

"Come on, help me dress!" Darwin closed the closet door.

The hotel's closet wasn't spacious. With Darwin's suitcase piled up like a mountain, and the clothes and jewelry he had the luxury store send for Fiona yesterday, it was even more crowded.
