Chapter 80 Do You Really Not Want My Child?

Darwin sat up, his face darkening as Fiona's freak-out hit him hard. The softness in his eyes was gone.

The whole pregnancy talk today was a real eye-opener for Darwin. If there was a kid in the picture, would she still want to bail on him?

"Wasn't it you who asked if I'd make you get an abortion if you got knocked up? I said I wouldn't!" Darwin's voice was low and serious. "Fiona, do you really not want my kid?"

"Hell no." Fiona was losing it. "Darwin, you're getting married! If I have your kid, what would that make them? Some secret love child?"

"If you want, he can be a Solomon!" Darwin shot back without thinking.

Fiona laughed, but it was a bitter laugh. "So, I'm unlucky enough to be your side chick and also have to bear Hathaway's kid?"

Darwin and Hathaway were married. If the kid was part of the Solomon family, wouldn't that make it Hathaway's kid too?

"He'd still be raised by you!" Darwin, being a rich heir, had seen this play out too many times. Women on the side, hoping to bring their kids into the main family.

Fiona felt like she was hearing the biggest joke ever. She laughed so hard her shoulders shook, and tears streamed down her face.

Darwin's expression grew darker.

"Forget it." Fiona shook her head. "Mr. Solomon, why are we even fighting over something that'll never happen?"

Darwin felt like his heart had been ripped out. Having a baby with him was something she thought would never happen?

Fiona's mind was a mess. She didn't feel like sleeping anymore and headed for the door.

But after just two steps, Darwin caught up, grabbed her, and tossed her back onto the bed. Luckily, the quilt was soft.

Fiona broke into a cold sweat, worried about the baby in her belly.

Then Darwin leaned over, his face full of anger. "Something that'll never happen?" he sneered. "What if I insist?"

"Darwin, what do you think a baby is? A tool for you to vent your anger? It's a life!" Fiona snapped. "You don't love me, and you won't love my kid either!"

When Darwin liked her, he'd sweet-talk and treat her well. But what about when he didn't?

Just like in TV dramas and novels, when the novelty wore off and he got tired of her, he'd throw some money at her to make her leave, but he'd never give her the kid.

"How do you know I don't love you?" Darwin cut her off.

As soon as he said it, he was stunned. Luckily, his phone rang at that moment.

Fiona glanced at the caller ID; it was Hathaway.

Darwin frowned, grabbed the phone, and walked out of the lounge to answer it.

Fiona collapsed on the bed, taking deep breaths to calm her chaotic mind.

Darwin said he wouldn't make her get an abortion, which was a shocker. If it had been earlier, before her grandma passed away, she would've happily told Darwin she was pregnant. As long as he agreed to let her have the baby, she would've been grateful.

Fiona got up, straightened her clothes, put on a coat, and went to the bathroom to wash her face. This nap was definitely not happening.

She opened the door to the lounge just as Darwin hung up.

"Come with me to the afternoon meeting." Darwin's tone was all business, no room for argument.

"What meeting?" Fiona asked.

Darwin gave her a look. "The one we didn't finish this morning."

Fiona frowned. "I wasn't there this morning, so why should I go now?"

"Just sit there so I can keep an eye on you!" Darwin snapped, clearly annoyed.

Fiona chuckled, shaking her head. "Do you really think I'm just some decoration?"

"Decoration?" Darwin stepped closer, grabbing her chin. "Fiona, there's no decoration in this world that can drive someone insane like you do!"

Fiona resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

In the afternoon, Darwin and the company's VPs took the Ross family reps on a tour of the Solomon Group's high-tech factory. Fiona tagged along the whole time.

Darwin and Hathaway, in front of everyone, looked like the perfect couple. They always stood side by side, and anyone who saw them would give a thumbs up, saying they were a perfect match.

Fiona couldn't care less.

As she listened, her mind started to wander.

And then karma hit.

A male exec from the Ross family suddenly called out, "Ms. Woods!"

All eyes turned to her.

Fiona felt a moment of panic.

Darwin looked calm and glanced at Hathaway.

Fiona quickly composed herself and nodded. "Mr. Porter."

"I've heard a lot about you." Eric Porter smirked, his eyes full of disdain. "Are you really that capable?"

"Not really, most of it's just talk," Fiona replied coolly.

"I heard Mr. Solomon plans to make you president of the energy company co-funded by the Atlas Group and the Solomon Group?" Eric asked, clearly enjoying himself.

Not many people knew about this.

Darwin frowned.

Eric continued, "I'm curious about your abilities, given how highly Mr. Solomon regards you."

Fiona, keeping her cool, knew he was trying to provoke her but showed no sign of irritation.

"Just rumors, Mr. Porter. Don't take them seriously," she said.

Eric grinned and pointed to a large machine. "Ms. Woods, can you tell me what this is? Its function, principle, and all that?"

He knew Fiona was brought here on the spot. He thought, 'Even Darwin might not know the function and principle of every machine. A pretty face with no brains is even less likely to know.'

His goal was simple: to humiliate Fiona and show the top execs of the Atlas Group and the Solomon Group that she was useless, hoping to stop Darwin from giving such a good company to his lover. That should belong to Hathaway.

"Mr. Porter, Ms. Woods isn't responsible for this area, so why don't I..." the engineering director began to speak with a smile.

"Ms. Woods, don't you understand?" Eric raised his voice. "But these machines are all related to the future energy company."

Darwin looked at Fiona.

At this point, she should ask him for help.

But Fiona didn't even glance his way.

"It's not that I don't understand at all, but my expertise is limited, and I only know some basics." She walked over and checked the machine's serial number.

In her mind, she quickly recalled the information related to the serial number.

When it came to work, she never slacked off. When this factory was first set up, Darwin had placed great importance on it. At that time, Fiona had almost memorized all the characteristics and principles of the machines, all the publicly available information.

She had thought it might come in handy someday.

And it did.
