Chapter 187 Is Chicago Lilian's child?
"Chicago, did you remember everything I told you?" Darwin crouched in front of Chicago, straightened her collar and hair.
"Mhm." Chicago nodded reluctantly, "Uncle, will you visit the kitten every day?"
"Of course." Darwin nodded, "I'll also take photos and videos to send to your brother for you to see."
"You're so kind." Chicago hugged Darwin, "Thank you, Uncle."
Darwin gently patted her back: "Be good, go ahead, your brother is waiting."
"Goodbye, Uncle." Chicago mumbled.
"I really want to take Uncle home" thought Chicago.
Wendy held Chicago in her arms.
Chicago rested her head on her shoulder, facing Darwin, gazing at him longingly.
When they reached the nanny car, the door was opened, and Chicago was placed in the safety seat by the door, her view was obstructed.
She tried to peek her head out to see.
Then, her brother's voice sounded beside her, "Chicago."
Chicago timidly looked over.
"Do you know that you almost scared Wendy and Stuart to death?" Charles asked.
Chicago blinked, "I left a little note in the studio."
"Ah?" Wendy was bewildered.
What note? She hadn't even noticed one!
She must have been too rushed and missed a crucial clue!!
"You're not allowed to see him again." Charles stated with an unprecedented assertiveness.
"No!" Chicago immediately objected, "Uncle is my good friend, you can't forbid me from playing with Uncle!"
"He's not your good friend!" Charles said sternly, "Mommy would be very upset if she knew you met with him. Chicago, do you want to make Mommy sad?"
Chicago was suddenly shocked.
Mommy would be unhappy about her meeting with the handsome Uncle?
"That's not true!" Overcome with grief, Chicago was on the verge of tears.
Charles looked at Chicago with a complex expression.
Then, he glanced outside the car window, the man was still standing there, not having left.
Charles's brows were deeply furrowed.
"About today, I didn't tell Mommy, Stuart didn't either. If you think Mommy won't be upset, you can go confess to her yourself." Charles turned his gaze back to his sister, "If Mommy gets sad, you'll come back with me to our uncle's place tomorrow, and never come to Armie Country again!"
Normally, Chicago was very chatty.
While Charles, he hardly spoke a few words all day.
But nobody expected, at this moment, Chicago would be rendered speechless by Charles's scolding.
"I hate you!" Chicago covered her face with her hands and finally burst into tears.
Everyone knew Charles hated making his sister cry the most.
But today was different.
Wendy frantically tried to soothe her, while Charles just frowned silently, his lips pressed tightly shut.
Unbeknownst to Darwin, Chicago had just been sternly reprimanded by her brother.
The nanny car paused by the roadside for a moment before slowly driving away.
He sighed softly, took out his phone, and made a call. "The meeting will continue in half an hour."
After hanging up the phone, Darwin didn't rush to the building where the meeting was to be held but instead went straight back to the Solomon Building.
In the lobby of the first floor, the head of security stood before Darwin, sweating profusely.
It was his first time being so close to the boss.
But, it was not for anything good.
Alongside him was the Vice President of HR from Solomon, as well as the security officer who had intimidated Chicago.
"Mr. Solomon, I truly didn't know that she was your child. She was holding a cat, and I feared the cat would escape and harm someone in the company..." the man who had intimidated Chicago said, shrinking beside the head of security.
"You should feel lucky that she wasn't hurt by your aggressive behavior." Darwin said icily. "Otherwise, no amount of your deaths could compensate for it."
The man shuddered.
Darwin then turned to the Vice President of Human Resources and said, "By the rulebook, the head of security, today's scheduling manager, and this individual are all terminated. Additionally, they will be ineligible for employment in any of Solomon Corporation's subsidiaries."
"Mr. Solomon!" The head of security turned pale with shock.
"Don't feel wronged. The training of your staff was inadequate, and you bear significant responsibility." Darwin stated, his voice cold.
After Chicago left, the only image that haunted Darwin when he closed his eyes was seeing Chicago crouched in a corner, shivering and being scolded.
Just the thought of it made his heart feel like it was going to burst, filled with the urge to break every bone in that miserable person's body.
Darwin had issued his orders, and only then did he head towards the office building where the meeting was to take place.
In the Solomon Building lobby on the ground floor, every receptionist and security guard held their breath.
It was their first time witnessing Mr. Solomon personally descend to fire someone.
"I'll have to go to the security room later and snapshot that girl's image from today to make it into a wallpaper! The next time she shows up, I'll treat her like royalty!" one of the receptionists said, still shaken.
However, none at the reception desk would get that opportunity.
By evening, the human resources department had announced staff reassignments, and everyone at the reception was moved to different positions.
The rumor was that the new receptionists were personally trained by the executive office.
Lilian had been away dealing with a case for RH Company and went to see one of RH Company's directors. Upon her return, she heard some outrageous rumors.
"When have you ever seen Mr. Solomon so gentle and affectionate with a child? I checked, Mr. Solomon doesn't have any close siblings, she must be his secret illegitimate child!"
"It does look like she's his, she even resembles him!"
"If it weren't his own child, with Mr. Solomon's personality, would he publicly fire the head of security?"
"What nonsense are you all spouting?" Lilian approached with a smile that didn't reach her eyes, which were devoid of any warmth.
"Miss Robbins, you're back..." The group previously engulfed in gossip now looked embarrassed.
"What child are you talking about?" Lilian continued to inquire, yet her mind involuntarily conjured up Chicago's face.
"This morning, a kid came to the office looking for Mr. Solomon, a security guard threw her out. When Mr. Solomon found out, he rushed over here, halting the meeting. I heard he even gave the guard a beating before carrying the child back to his office..." someone recounted in detail.
"A little girl, right?" Lilian said, suppressing her anger, "with big eyes, very cute."
"Miss Robbins knows her too?" they asked in surprise.
"Of course." Lilian demurely lowered her lashes, showing a touch of shyness.
"Could that child be yours and Mr. Solomon's?" someone exclaimed in surprise, "Thinking about it, she does look a bit like you!"
Lilian quickly raised her finger to her lips, "Don't spread rumors. Now, go back to work, I have a proposal to finish."
Once Lilian had left, the others immediately started to discuss this new gossip.
"Miss Robbins didn't refute the claim just now, did she? So, the child is hers and Mr. Solomon's?!"
"Definitely!"
The crowd was all abuzz with speculation.
"The child is already so big, could it be that Mr. Solomon and Miss Robbins are secretly married?"
"If they really are married, doesn't that confirm that Lilian is his mistress?" As they were talking, a woman came out of the coffee area, her high heels clicking, carrying a cup of coffee.
