Chapter 345 You've Fallen In Love

"Reward?"

Thalassa sniffled, somewhat bewildered.

"You guessed right about the whisper with Buddy, didn't you?" Kenny said lovingly, his thumb softly caressing her cheek.

Thalassa remembered. "What do you want? I'll buy it for you."

Kenny's gaze drifted over Thalassa's lips.

"I want this."

He leaned in and kissed her deeply.

After a couple of seconds, he pulled back, his eyes red.

Thalassa was completely taken aback and stared at Kenny like a startled rabbit.

"Didn’t you like it?" Kenny asked breathlessly, carefully watching her reaction.

Thalassa was still baffled but shook her head.

She found Kenny's lips very soft and comfortable.

Kenny kissed her again.

The first kiss was a mere peck, but this time, it was much more intense.

Kenny's kiss was fumbling but sincere, almost worryingly so. Thalassa feared he might accidentally draw blood from her swollen lips.

They sat in the shadowy dimness of the garage, the softened glow from a single bulb scattering through the car windows.

That taste was addictive.

Their lips met for what seemed like an eternity, until the very end.

"Kenny, let's continue tomorrow, I'm getting dizzy from the lack of oxygen," Thalassa said, her breathless voice muffled as she gently covered his mouth, lips tender and puffy, her gaze hazy.

Kenny was smitten with this flushed, disheveled version of her.

His grip on her hand remained firm as he kissed the center of her palm, then each fingertip, "It's a date then. More kissing tomorrow."

Thalassa had no words.

It was the innocence of youth. They had no clue there was more to life than just kissing.

Stepping out of the car, the cool breeze brought a clarity to her head.

Thalassa replayed the moments over in her mind, cheeks uncontrollably inflamed as she heard Kenny close the car door behind us.

Without thinking, Thalassa dashed inside, speeding up the stairs and quickly locking her bedroom door.

Leaning back, she covered her scorching cheeks with her hands.

How had she ended up kissing Kenny?

And it was so... intense!

But it felt... amazing.

Who knew Kenny had such soft lips?

And those cute little canines didn't hurt a bit when they nipped.

Thalassa’s heart was filled to the brim with tender thoughts as she floated to the edge of her bed, then plunged her head into the fluffy pillow.

That's right.

Kenny had bought her these soft pillows and bedding, just like him.

Thalassa reached for her phone and texted Fiona. "Babe, Kenny isn't divorcing me~"

Before Fiona could reply, she sent another text. "Babe, Kenny is just so adorable."

Fiona stood on the balcony, enjoying the breeze when her joyful WhatsApp messages nearly bubbled over her screen, bringing a smile to her face.

She sent back a sticker. “You've fallen hard.”

Just then, a call interrupted their chat.

Fiona's smile faded as she looked at the caller ID.

She answered, "What's up?"

"Are Charles and Chicago asleep?" Darwin's voice came through the phone. She heard the sound of a car door shutting in the background.

"It's almost eleven. What do you think?" Fiona replied with a tinge of sarcasm.

"I'm coming up," said Darwin. "I just want to check in on them before I leave."

Fiona thought for a moment, then decided not to object.

Moments later, Darwin arrived, impeccably dressed, at the entrance of the hospital room.

Fiona's frown deepened at the sight.

Judging from the timeline, he should have still been sick, especially since he had coughed up blood just a few days before... How could he be back at work?

"What's the matter? Annoyed to see me?" Darwin asked derisively when he noticed Fiona's change of expression.

"Keep it down. If you wake Chicago up, you're going to have a bad time." Fiona shot him a look of warning.

"Got it."

Darwin took off his watch and coat, washed his hands in the restroom, then gently pushed open the door to the hospital room.

Even in sleep, the differences in Charles and Chicago's personalities were notable.

Charles, despite being ill, maintained an air of refinement as he rested.

Chicago, on the other hand...

The child was sprawled across the bed, forming a starfish with her limbs, coming just short of encroaching on her brother’s space.

With a warm smile, Darwin approached Chicago first, bending over to plant a gentle kiss on her cheek. He caressed her affectionately, then tucked her in, making sure the small blanket covered her rounded belly.

Then, he moved to Charles' side of the bed.

Charles' pallor was distressingly pale.

Darwin took Charles' hand, its back marred with bruises and swelling from needles and IVs and kissed it softly.

Over the past few days, Darwin had managed to get as many people as possible tested for a bone marrow match.

The results would take about a week to come in.

"Don't be scared, Charles. Daddy’s going to make sure you get better," Darwin whispered tenderly, kissing Charles' forehead.

Unbeknownst to him, Charles' eyelashes trembled slightly.

After about half an hour in the room, Fiona ushered Darwin out.

The door closed silently behind them.

Charles opened his eyes, his gaze lingering on the back of his hand before reaching up to touch his forehead.

With a heavy heart, he turned away, looking at his sister, deep in slumber like a little piglet, wondering what thoughts occupied her small mind.

Outside, Darwin slipped his watch back on, his gaze inadvertently drawn to Chicago's paintings.

"Did she paint all these today?"

"She's been moody. She’s spent all her time painting. She only stops to eat and sleep." Fiona paused. "I’ve told her about you being her dad."

Darwin’s eyes darkened slightly. "And... What did she say?"

"Not much. She’s probably still deciding whether she wants you around," Fiona replied.

Darwin furrowed his brow. "I see."

"Is there anything else?" Fiona inquired.

Darwin glanced at her. “I’ve dealt with the mess the Rhoads family was dealing with. And I’ve given Grandma Rhoads a plot of land as financial compensation."

"I'm aware," Fiona responded.

Darwin nodded. "Alright then, I’m off."

"Are you going back to the hospital?" Fiona asked.

Darwin paused, and when he looked back at Fiona, the defeat that had shadowed his eyes moments before had diminished.

"It's all good now. I don’t need to go back to the hospital," Darwin replied.

Fiona lowered her eyelids, her voice calm but tinged with resignation. "Darwin, you're now a father to Charles and Chicago. I hope you’ll always remember that, no matter what decisions you make. It's worse to have and then lose than to never have at all. Don't make choices that'll be the death of you."

With that, she went straight to the back room.

Darwin stood there for a moment. The events of the day had worn him out. As he looked at Charles and Chicago, Darwin felt a sense of relief wash over him, even though his wife had given him the cold shoulder and argued with him.
