Chapter 555 Been Waiting for You to Come Home for a Long Time
"Yeah..."
Theodore caught on as well.
He gradually moved, positioning himself in front of Stuart.
However, due to the difference in their heights, his effort was somewhat in vain.
At that moment, Darwin stepped forward from behind.
He spoke calmly, "Do you know how to use the internet?"
"Of course I do. Who do you think you are looking down on?" Theodore grumbled under his breath.
"Then, look up for Darwin," Darwin instructed.
Theodore and the others took out their smartphones to search.
Their typing auto-filled with Darwin's name.
Darwin glanced over. "The first one."
Theodore looked at his friends and then back at Darwin.
Although he didn't know why, the fact that typing the spelling was directly linked to the name made him feel impressed.
After clicking to search, Darwin’s personal profile appeared on the homepage.
Theodore mumbled, reading through Darwin's introduction aloud, getting more astonished as he went on.
Beyond that, there was even an introduction to Darwin’s spouse provided by Google.
After Theodore finished reading, his eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets.
And there, unmistakably, were photos of the two people online, identical to the ones right in front of him—there was no faking that.
"Do you have any doubts now?" Darwin asked. "If not convinced, you could always call the police."
Theodore was at a loss.
He glanced sideways at Stuart. "Sebastian, you have to make your own decision on this."
Stuart thought for a moment.
"May I see the family portrait?" He asked Fiona.
Even though he had lost his memory, Stuart vaguely remembered being chased, which had resulted in his fall into the sea.
So, it was natural for him to be wary.
Fiona flipped through her phone, pulling up the photo for him.
Stuart’s gaze swept over the faces in the photo.
Finally, it lingered long on the images of Janna and Chicago.
"Is this Chicago?" Stuart asked, pointing to Chicago in the photograph, not realizing his eyes were reddening as he spoke.
Fiona nodded.
Stuart looked at it for a moment longer and then pointed to Janna, "And her?"
"She is Grandma," Fiona replied.
Stuart nodded thoughtfully. "If I go with you, will I get to see Grandma and Chicago?"
"Of course, Grandma and Chicago have been waiting for you at home. They’ve waited a long time for you to come back," Fiona replied.
Stuart nodded again.
"I need to say goodbye to them. Please give me a moment."
"No problem."
After that, Stuart went upstairs with Theodore and the others.
"Sebastian, you’re being too hasty. Maybe we should call the police or get some sort of paternity test done?" The more cautious one appeared particularly anxious.
After all, they had worked so hard to save Stuart's life.
They didn't want to regret it if he was taken away and something happened to him.
"There's no need for that. Fiona is taking me today, and no one can stop it," Stuart replied. "I'd feel guilty if I caused you guys any more trouble without reason."
"Bro, do you sense that something's not right?" Theodore asked urgently.
He suddenly felt regretful.
When he first heard that Sebastian's family had found him, he was just happy.
He didn't consider that it might also be dangerous for Sebastian.
Stuart thought for a moment. "Meeting Chicago and Grandma is something I want to do."
He honestly couldn't tell.
He couldn't figure out what relationship the people looking for him really had with him.
But the moment he saw the child and the elderly woman in the photos, he felt an overwhelming urge to meet them that he couldn't suppress.
"Sebastian, let me come with you, an extra person means extra help," Theodore said through gritted teeth. Although he was scared too, he was alone in the world, anyway.
If it was indeed a trap, at worst, he would die alongside Sebastian.
"No need," Stuart said, patting him on the shoulder with a smile. "You guys should keep running your ship tomorrow. I'll stay in touch!"
Stuart insisted on this.
No one could stop him.
He had little to pack here, just a couple of everyday clothes, and then he headed downstairs.
Mike was waiting outside the apartment building.
When he saw Stuart emerge, he immediately approached, reaching to take Stuart's belongings, "Stuart, let me carry that!"
"No need." Stuart dodged Mike's hand. "You've been calling me 'bro,' but who are you really?"
"I..." Mike was at a loss for words; he certainly couldn't claim to be a family member like his boss, "I'm like your wingman, brother!"
Stuart looked puzzled. "I have a wingman?"
"Absolutely, all of us are," Mike said, then his expression turned to one of deep concern. "Stuart, do you really not remember anything?"
Stuart hummed in acknowledgment.
Then, he walked toward Fiona and Darwin.
"Ready to go?" Fiona asked.
"Yes." Stuart nodded.
Before getting into the car, Stuart glanced at the slum where he had lived for so long.
With his head down, he got into the vehicle.
On the ride home, Fiona had got the gist of how Stuart had been rescued, as well as the journey that brought him all the way back home.
"No wonder we hired so many mercenaries to search everywhere, yet we couldn't find a trace of you," Fiona said.
Stuart seemed worried that Fiona would take out her anger on the crew that saved him.
"They originally planned to drop me off at a nearby city's docks, but they were worried the people hunting me would catch up, so they decided to bring me all the way back," he explained.
Fiona saw right through Stuart's concern and was quick to reassure him. "Don't worry, they're your lifesavers and our family's benefactors. I will treat them well and not harm them."
"That's a relief," Stuart said with a nod. He still seemed a bit reserved and then fell silent.
Fiona dropped the subject.
Their car entered the neighborhood.
Stuart looked out the window.
"Do you recognize any of this?" Fiona asked.
Stuart shook his head.
"It's okay, I've already made an appointment with the doctor. I'll take you to see them tomorrow, and we'll do whatever we can to help you regain your memory."
Fiona paused, then offered some comfort, "Even if your memory doesn't come back, it doesn't matter. We will live our lives just as we have."
They stopped in the garage.
Darwin got out of the passenger seat and opened the car door for Fiona.
Stuart also stepped out on the other side, looking around.
Before he could recall anything, he heard a sweet yet urgent voice, tinged with sobs, calling out, "Uncle Stuart!"
Stuart was startled and immediately turned around to see a cute little girl with disheveled hair, rushing down the stairs.
His heart raced for a few seconds.
"Slow... slow down," he cautioned, stepping forward quickly to catch Chicago as she launched herself toward him.
Chicago was crying and clung to his neck tightly. "Where did you go? Where have you been?"
While she cried, she chided him.
"I… I…" Stuart panicked, hesitating for a moment, "Chicago?"
Chicago sobbed and let go of his neck, looking up at Stuart with tear-filled, bewildered eyes, then turned toward Fiona, "Mommy, does Uncle Stuart not remember me?"
Darwin stepped forward, trying to lift Chicago from Stuart's embrace.
However, Chicago clung fiercely to Stuart's neck, refusing to let go.
