Chapter 342 Have You Lost Your Mind?
Kenny looked at Thalassa.
Tears welled up in her eyes as her body trembled slightly.
Kenny sighed quietly, about to step forward.
Thalassa's cold hand touched his.
When he turned back Kenny saw Thalassa with tears in her eyes, but she shook her head, biting her lip.
Maria had to see for herself what kind of man Justin really was. One can only decide how to move forward when they realize where they stand.
In the end, Kenny didn’t step forward.
He never intended to get involved, but his heart ached for that woman as he saw how his wife felt for her.
His wife said to let it go, and he agreed.
After watching the security footage, everything became crystal clear.
Both Kenny and Thalassa made their statements at the police station.
As they stepped out, they bumped into a panting Chris, who was rushing in.
"Kenny, I just... my dad, I didn't think he'd..." Chris's breaths were heavy, his pace slowing.
Thalassa held Kenny's hand and didn’t even spare Chris a glance. They walked away from the station.
Chris stood there, feeling as if a thousand icy blades were piercing him from all directions. His body was cold, and the pain was sharp and deep.
Seeing Thalassa and Kenny at the cemetery today had made his heart wrench so tightly he struggled to breathe.
He remembered the anniversary of Thalassa's dad's passing, and him accompanying her overseas. Thalassa had said to him, "Once we're married, I'll take you to see my dad and tell him how wonderful you are. I love you so much."
Chris had never visited Thalassa's father's grave. Not until today.
Lately, his longing for Thalassa had become almost pathological. He couldn't eat or sleep. He obsessively searched through his belongings, desperate for some proof of Thalassa's love.
Yesterday, when he heard Maria wanted to visit Thalassa's father's grave, the image of her resting on his lap, eyes shimmering, and those words - it all came flooding back to him.
So, Chris decided to go too. But he never expected to see Thalassa there with Kenny, honoring her father.
In that moment, jealousy, confusion, and helplessness hit him like a tsunami.
She was introducing another man to her father.
How would she introduce Kenny to him?
Just the thought tormented Chris to the brink of madness.
"What are you doing standing here?" Justin said sourly, as he appeared with a disheveled Walker in tow.
They had just reviewed the security tape.
Justin had hoped that since there was evidence of Kenny striking first, he could get him locked up.
But then...
"They started it. It was self-defense," was the reply.
Justin flared up, "My son's arm is broken. Isn't that excessive self-defense?"
The police then explained all the nuances of what constituted excessive self-defense. In the end, Kenny walked free, while Maria faced a week in jail for obstruction of official duties.
"And you're a lawyer. You’re totally useless!" Justin lashed out at Walker.
Walker felt the sting of injustice too.
Kenny knew the law like the back of his hand and was always ready with the right statute without missing a beat.
"Dad, didn't you guys say Kenny was just some pretty boy? He doesn't look like that to me..." Walker muttered. "With just one call, he got the cemetery owner on his side, fawning over him like a lost puppy..."
"Have you said enough?" Chris was irritated and shouted at him.
Immediately, heads turned their way.
Chris's face was a picture of displeasure. "Where's Aunt Karen?"
"She’s been suspended for seven days," Walker replied.
Chris looked at Justin in astonishment. "Why?"
"Let's talk outside."
Justin pulled Chris to his car and explained the situation before making a plea for himself: "You can't expect me to go to jail, can you? What about the family business? Orders have already been halved because of that Thalassa girl's antics. If we don't find new partnerships, who knows how many contracts we'll lose by the end of the year!"
"Dad, aren't you afraid of breaking Aunt Karen's heart? After all these years, she put you above Thalassa and severed ties with her own niece for our family. How could you betray someone who's been so devoted to you?"
"I had no choice. The money came from her account, anyway. It's just seven days. Once she's back, I'll make it up to her!" Justin said, growing impatient. Then his gaze darkened. "This whole mess with Thalassa... now that's a feud set in stone!"
"Enough! What more do you want to do?" Chris was on the verge of a breakdown. "How much more do you want Thalassa to hate us before you're satisfied?"
Justin looked at Chris.
He scoffed coldly. "If you were good enough and managed to get her wrapped around your finger, you could have married her without a hitch, and we wouldn’t be in this mess."
P
Chris froze.
"Dad... what... what do you mean?"
"Chris, some punk stole your girl. If I were you, that pretty boy would be history. Are you going to let him walk all over you?" Justin's voice was low. "Did spending all those years with Thalassa mess with your head? You couldn't even handle a little thing like this, and now Sean's been dragged into it!"
"What do you know?" Chris asked, panic-stricken.
He thought he had kept his relationship with Thalassa a well-guarded secret.
"I've known since you two started seeing each other," Justin replied.
"So, you don't object to our relationship?" Chris asked.
Justin turned away, "You want to marry her? She's not good enough for you. If you want to sleep with her, why would I stop you?"
"Justin!" Chris suddenly roared with fury, his hand pounding the steering wheel hard. "Don't you dare insult Thalassa! I want to marry her! You knew we were together but you still set me up on blind dates! That was intentional!"
‘Smack!’ Justin slapped him hard across the face. "You little punk. Hanging around Thalassa has made you forget your manners. How dare you defy your own father!"
A buzzing raged in Chris's ears.
A moment later, he looked up at Justin, his eyes bloodshot with a terrifying red. "Dad, call it defiance or whatever you like, but I'm warning you! Stay away from Thalassa. If you dare hurt her, I don't know what I might do to you!"
With that, Chris flung open the car door and stumbled out.
The sky was clear and bright.
He gazed toward the distant mountains, feeling the world spinning around him.
Justin had known about him and Thalassa all along, so there was no need for Chris to suppress his feelings, no need to avoid her, to hurt her so many times.
If he had known...
Things wouldn't have come to this.
He wouldn’t have gone on those blind dates and Thalassa wouldn't have rejected him, let alone rushed to marry someone else...
Darkness swept over Chris.
He fell straight to the ground.
