Chapter 688 Confession

Shortly after the break, Charles and Chicago were about to start a new semester at school.

Janna was very worried about this.

"Charles is doing okay. He already knows about Darwin's accident. But I’m worried about Chicago. We could keep it a secret at home, but it will be impossible to hide it from the students and their parents once she goes to school!"

In this world, there were people with evil thoughts, whether among young people or old people,

Before Christmas, Jannie mentioned it during her video call with Janna.

There were a few unruly kids at the new school, bullying her kids for not having a dad.

Janna was not particularly close to those two children, but she felt sorry for them.

If such a thing were to happen to Chicago, Janna couldn't even bear to think about it!

"I think..." Fiona gently rubbed Janna's palm.

Lately, Janna has been feeling numbness in her arms and hands.

Whenever Fiona had some free time, she would massage and knead them for her.

"Chicago probably already senses that something is wrong," Fiona said helplessly with lowered eyelids.

Chicago's intuition had always been quite sensitive.

Like when Stuart was in trouble, Chicago quickly sensed something was amiss.

But Chicago had been holding it in until she couldn't contain it anymore and finally erupted.

"Huh?" Janna suddenly became nervous. "But I spend every day with Chicago from morning till night, and she's always happy."

The more Janna spoke, the less confident she sounded.

"I should go talk to her," Fiona said calmly.

Fiona couldn't keep Chicago locked up at home all the time, nor could she keep Chicago in the dark about where their dad went.

"Or should I go talk to her?" Janna anxiously looked at Fiona.

Since Darwin had his incident, Janna has never seen Fiona have such an emotional outburst.

She rarely cried.

When that incident happened to Jannie, she cried every day.

But Janna knew that it was good to let it out.

It wasn't good for Fiona to hold it in!

"No." Fiona smiled lightly. "Your Christmas vacation is probably over, and spring is the busiest time. You should go back to work."

"With the situation here, how can you expect me to leave with peace of mind?" Janna's eyes turned red. "Fiona, you can't always be like this, taking all the burden upon yourself. I am your grandmother, your family."

"You’ve already taken care of the Rhoads family for me, haven’t you?" Fiona said gently. "Grandma, I don't know where Darwin is, I don't know when he will come back, and I have no idea if I can handle the responsibilities of the Rhoads family and Solomon."

"Be good, Grandma is still here. Focus on getting Solomon settled, don't think about anything else. Grandma is here." Janna held Fiona's hand, feeling extremely heartbroken.

Once upon a time, Janna was proud and happy because of Fiona's extraordinary talent.

But at this moment, Janna wished Fiona didn't have these abilities and could live happily and carefreely under her protection.

Fiona left Janna's side.

Chicago had just finished taking a bath.

Chicago sat on the last step of the first floor, holding her teddy bear and staring at the floor, lost in thought.

"Baby, are you waiting for Mommy?" Fiona walked over and softly called out to her.

Chicago looked up at Fiona, and a sweet smile immediately appeared on her face. "Mommy, can I sleep with you tonight?"

"Of course." Fiona approached and picked her up, looking at her with tender eyes. "Shall we have a girls' night?"

"Like the kind of girls' night you have with my godmother? Can I have a little drink, too?" Chicago asked immediately.

"At most, I'll give you some milk," Fiona said without mercy.

Chicago looked pitiful. "When can I grow up?"

"Just to have a drink?" Fiona asked.

"No, when I grow up, I can do many things. I can become the CEO of Dad's company and inherit the Rhoads family, so Mommy won't have to work so hard!" Chicago said, and then suddenly pouted as she looked at Fiona, gently touching her cheek. "I don't like it when you're too tired!"

Fiona's heart ached. "But I don't want you and your brother to grow up so fast. If you grow up, you will leave me."

"No!" Chicago immediately promised. "I and my brother will always be with Mommy!"

Fiona smiled. "Chicago, Mommy can hardly hold you anymore."

Chicago immediately struggled to get off Fiona, then held Fiona's hand with her small hand. "It's okay if you can't hold me anymore. We can just hold hands and walk together!"

"Okay!" Fiona nodded firmly.

Then, hand in hand, Fiona and Chicago went upstairs.

When Fiona finished washing up, Chicago was already warm in bed.

Fiona lay on her side, looking at Chicago's adorable look.

Chicago had grown a bit, and her eyes and eyebrows had resembled Darwin’s more.

"Baby, Mommy wants to talk to you about daddy." Fiona began, her eyes involuntarily turning red and her voice choking up.

Chicago looked at her and tilted her head slightly. "Something happened to him, didn't it?"

Fiona nodded, tears rolling down her cheeks. "It's mommy's fault. Mommy wasn't careful and was caught by a bad guy. Daddy was harmed because he tried to save mommy."

Chicago gently wiped away Fiona's tears. "It's not mommy's fault. A husband should protect his wife. That's what Daddy should do. The one at fault is the bad person!"

Chicago paused for a moment.

She seemed to gather up courage.

"So, is Daddy dead?" After asking, Chicago raised her arm to cover her eyes, tightly pursing her lips to stop herself from crying.

"No!" Fiona answered without hesitation. "Just like Uncle Stuart back then, your Daddy fell into the sea, and we don't know where he's been swept away. We can't find him."

"He must be alive!" Chicago put down her arm and said firmly, "Dad loves me just like Uncle Stuart and Uncle Stuart came back alive, so Dad will come back alive, too!"

"Yes!" Fiona nodded firmly. "He promised me that he would come back home and definitely come back! So, we will wait for him together, okay?"

"Okay!" Chicago nodded and softly hugged Fiona. "Mommy, don't be afraid, don't be scared."

Fiona choked up.

Fiona closed her eyes and buried her head in Chicago's neck.

After a while, Fiona calmed down.

Fiona tenderly reminded Chicago again, "After school starts, if other kids bother you about this, what should you do?"

"I'll use the techniques that Charlotte taught me to fight back!" Chicago answered without hesitation.

Fiona smiled helplessly. "Baby, didn't I tell you that using violence to solve problems is the behavior of the weak? Did you forget?"

"Then what should I do?" Chicago asked.

Fiona gently caressed Chicago's cheek, "The more anxious you are, the more you resort to violence, the less you can solve the problem. Mommy will teach you."

Fiona leaned close to Chicago's ear and whispered softly.

Chicago listened earnestly.

Then Chicago nodded firmly. "Got it, I know what to do now!"

Fiona kissed her. "My baby is the best!"

"Not really. " Chicago shook her head. "Brother and Teacher Ethan is the best!" "
