Chapter 1316
After a couple more hectic days, Wyatt finally made it home for dinner.
"Mr. Smith brought in a doctor who's seen your mom twice in the last two days. She's a lot more alert now," Gideon said, looking better himself.
Wyatt finished his soup and dove into the rest of the meal with gusto.
Alexander was a big-shot doctor, known all over the country.
The Beaumont family was famous for their medical skills in Bay City.
"Slow down," Gideon said gently. "Wyatt, the company didn't get to where it is overnight. Don't rush, take your time."
Gideon had heard Wyatt was pushing himself too hard.
"Dad, I can't stop now," Wyatt said, looking down. "When I have free time, the pain is unbearable. Her shadow is everywhere."
Gideon's hand trembled slightly.
He was filled with guilt.
He opened his mouth but couldn't find any comforting words. "It's my fault for being useless and forcing you to come back."
"Let's not talk about this," Wyatt shook his head.
Gideon sighed and changed the subject. "A lot of people have been looking for me these past two days."
"Yeah," Wyatt nodded.
"Lucian's son and daughter have both come by."
"Dad, I only went after Lucian, which is already pretty lenient," Wyatt said calmly. "Lucian's son and son-in-law have been causing trouble for our family. If I go after them, they'll face even worse consequences than Lucian."
Gideon thought for a moment. "You have your plans, and I support you. Your mom's health is improving, so I'll take her on a trip. I don't want to deal with those troublesome people either."
"A cruise trip?" Wyatt put down his fork. "I saw a guide; there's a cruise next month that lasts over 200 days. I'll arrange everything."
"That sounds interesting."
Wyatt nodded. "Stella loved cruises. She always talked about going on one, but we never got the chance."
Gideon's smile faded.
"Go have fun!" Wyatt stood up. "I need to go to the Rapture factory. I won't be home tonight. Let Mom know."
"Leaving now?" Gideon asked.
Wyatt had been home for less than an hour.
"Yeah, I've arranged everything for the cruise. Cassius will come over to help you with the trip."
After giving his instructions, Wyatt left.
Gideon stood at the door, watching Wyatt drive away until he disappeared into the night. He let out a long sigh.
The butler walked over. "Mr. Gideon Durham, Mr. Wyatt Durham's dedication to work is a good thing. Haven't you always wanted him to be like this?"
Gideon shook his head, his eyes red. "Wyatt still hasn't forgiven me and Evander."
"How could that be? After all, Stella was just an outsider. Mr. Wyatt Durham is just having a hard time now. Once he finds someone new to love, he'll get through this."
Gideon didn't respond.
He knew it wasn't that easy.
Whether it was forgiving him and Evander or finding someone new to love, it wouldn't be easy for Wyatt.
He said he couldn't stop now because Stella's shadow was everywhere.
It broke Gideon's heart whenever he thought about it.
He stood there for a while longer.
Evander woke up.
Hearing that Wyatt had come back, she happily took out two jewelry boxes.
"Wyatt went to the factory. He didn't want to wake you," Gideon comforted Evander.
Evander looked disappointedly at the jewelry boxes in her hands. "I wanted him to take these bracelets to Stella. I spent a long time picking them out. They would look so beautiful on her wrists!"
Gideon felt a pang of sadness.
