Chapter 562 Family Entanglement
Thalassa was dealing with some tricky business matters.
As the meeting room filled with staff members coming and going in waves, Kenny remained waiting in Thalassa's office.
Midway through the day, a lavish afternoon tea spread, rivaling that of a five-star hotel buffet, was delivered for the enjoyment of Thalassa's company staff.
Amid the chorus of ‘Thanks, brother-in-law.’, Kenny was brimming with joy.
He ran his fingers over the wedding ring on his finger. Since being with Thalassa, Kenny had gradually noticed the once-dull world through his eyes becoming vivid with color. The noisy humankind he once found irritating wasn't so bad anymore.
Kenny dreamt of every day yet to come with Thalassa. The mere thought filled him with such happiness and fortune.
Then, in a blink, the sweltering summer quietly made way after an autumn rain had fallen.
Chicago and Charles had begun their trial runs at school. Although Darwin was swamped with work daily, he insisted on punctually picking them up. Fiona's persuasions fell on deaf ears.
Due to slack in previous months, Darwin's work piled up mountainously, keeping him incredibly busy.
Meanwhile, Fiona’s business, RH Company, had fought a successful battle in its transformation. The third-quarter sales alone had tripled that of the previous year's total revenue.
With plenty of promotional activities lined up for the fourth quarter, the company projected that sales would double from the third quarter as a starting point.
Such a successful case study was hard to ignore.
By nature, Fiona had brought more partnerships to Monsoon Investment, a company she founded herself. However, Fiona had confirmed that in two years, she would gradually start taking over the Rhoads family's wealth fund. She didn't want Monsoon Investment to fade away once she took charge of the Rhoads family's business, so she was intentionally nurturing the team she had on hand.
For the new partnerships, Fiona no longer took the lead but instead provided assistance from the sidelines. Although she was still busy, it was a more relaxed pace compared to her former routine, which included monthly travel all over the map. Nevertheless, her family was busier than ever.
After Burl's visit to Solomon, where he learned quite a bit, he hurried back to college following the summer break. He and his partners were hustling to launch an international shopping platform, aiming to sell Armie's high-quality, low-cost goods overseas.
Then there was Thalassa, who was even busier. The design for the corporate office building was complete, the site had been leveled, and construction had officially begun. Thalassa's business was growing so much that the office space previously rented was no longer sufficient. Upon hearing this, Scarlet Wells rushed to Bay city and quickly vacated two floors of her commercial property for her daughter-in-law's office use.
Before leaving, Scarlet delivered a stern reprimand to Kenny, admonishing him, "Thalassa is already overwhelmed, and yet you still expect her to handle these matters? Be more attentive next time, and exercise greater care!" Thalassa couldn't help but find amusement in the situation, particularly since Kenny seemed genuinely affected by Scarlet's critique.
Janna had even more on her plate. With Ken rebelling, Janna set to reform and revitalize the Rhoads family from top to bottom. This added a substantial amount of work, but she didn't delegate it to her team; she handled every issue personally. She was dedicated to eliminating any potential trouble for her granddaughter, dealing with problems as soon as they surfaced.
The younger generation was equally caught up in their commitments. Charles was involved in the development of a classified program, which, after breaking through several bottlenecks, was now in the sprint phase. Everything taught in school was already second nature to Charles, who devoted all his attention to software development.
Chicago's local art exhibition was finally locked in place. Alongside artworks from invited artists, Chicago's own collection still needed more pieces. Therefore, Chicago had to balance her time between playing with cats and dogs, attending school, caring for her family's wellbeing, and painting.
Luckily, Chicago was in a happy place, and her inspiration for painting was at an all-time high. The manager organizing her art exhibition was incredibly moved by her recent artwork, finding it so touching that it brought tears to her eyes.
Her use of colors had improved; just looking at them, one could glimpse the joy and happiness within her heart.
The current situation was just like that.
Yet, Fiona wasn't the most idle member of the family.
That title belonged to Stuart, who, after recovering from a small surgery on a previously broken bone, was doing quite well.
At first, everyone was worried.
They thought Stuart wouldn’t adjust to a life of leisure.
However, surprisingly, Stuart adapted exceptionally well.
Simply put, he had become a gardener.
He tended to the front and back gardens of the small villa with great care and had bought many books on gardening. When Chicago went off to study, Stuart immersed himself in research.
According to Chicago, the new property had a vast farm, igniting a sense of mission in Stuart. He visited Emerald Pool multiple times.
Then, he drew a detailed plan of the little farm.
Discovering there was also a lake on the property, he purchased books on aquaculture.
This revelation wowed everyone.
After the initial shock, Janna was immensely relieved.
The family wasn't short on money, so Stuart could be a farmer for life if he wished, leading the contented existence he desired.
As fall deepened, there was half a month left before young Chicago's art exhibition.
The project Charles had been working on was finally ready for its breathtaking launch.
In essence, it was an artificial intelligence tool capable of intense, personalized office training.
Upon its release, its formidable computing powers caused a worldwide stir.
Solomon stocks soared for three consecutive days.
The chief engineer, addressing the media, emphasized multiple times that the swift progress was owed to an engineer who preferred to remain anonymous.
It was also highlighted that this engineer resolved in three days a bug that had troubled the team for over half a year, sparking intense debate within the industry.
Speculation was rife that the mysterious engineer was likely employed by a competitor and due to either not having resigned or being bound by a non-compete agreement, their identity couldn't be disclosed.
The chief engineer denied the public's theories on social media.
While looking at the netizens' guesses about who the engineer might be, the chief engineer felt a bittersweet sense of admiration.
All those engineers listed were big names in the industry.
However, Darwin’s son was not even six years old.
At that moment, Charles, not yet six, sat in a classroom listening to his teacher explain a math problem.
He grasped the answer after just a single glance and could enumerate several different approaches to solving it.
After school, Charles packed up his things with clear logic.
Usually, as soon as school finished, Chicago would come to find him.
However, today, before they even reached Chicago, an eraser hurled through the air and smacked down onto Charles's desk. He lifted his eyes to see the class's tallest boy, Dominic Sinclair, sneering maliciously.
"Look at Charles, not a trace of expression. Is he an idiot or what?" Dominic mocked.
