Chapter 1295
"Are you kidding me? The Durham Group wouldn't go that far!" An old-timer from the Durham Group jumped up, clearly pissed off. "Lucian, you're the project leader, you signed off on it, so it's on you. How can you shamelessly blame Gideon?"
"Mr. Lockhart, this is a shareholders' meeting, not a fish market. Keep it down," Lucian shot back, still smiling but with a fierce look in his eyes.
"Uncle Lucian, you didn't even have the qualifications to join the Durham Group back then. It was my grandpa who insisted on putting you by my dad's side. You've worked hard all these years to prove your worth to the Durham Group. You even sacrificed the company's interests to sign those deals," Wyatt said slowly, emphasizing each word.
"Those projects looked great a couple of years ago, and the Durham Group poured a ton of money into them." He stared at Lucian. "If it weren't for my dad covering for you, you wouldn't have had the chance to oust him at the shareholders' meeting."
"Wyatt, are you coming after me today because of this?" Lucian looked hurt. "Don't you remember what happened when your dad was removed? Because of your scandal with Ms. White, the Durham Group was under intense scrutiny, and the stock price tanked for four straight days. Do you know what that means?"
"The money lost was only a third of what you've lost over the years, Uncle Lucian." Wyatt grinned.
Lucian's heart sank.
He had brought up Stella to rattle Wyatt.
Based on what he knew about Wyatt, he expected him to blow up. But Wyatt didn't.
Not only did he keep his cool, but he also turned the tables on him.
"Because I didn't handle my past emotional issues well, I brought negative impacts and losses to the company. For this, I sincerely apologize to everyone." Wyatt stood up and addressed the shareholders, "I promise that the money you lost will be back in your pockets, doubled, before the New Year."
"Easy for you to say!" Samuel, one of Lucian's allies, snapped.
"At least I can say it. Can you?" Wyatt shot back.
"It's just talk. I can say it too!" Samuel retorted.
Wyatt stayed silent, just staring at him, waiting for him to make a promise.
Samuel tried to speak, but he couldn't, because he knew the current state of the Durham Group.
Lucian's plan was to sell the company to foreign investors after acquiring shares from Gideon and Evander.
The negotiations were almost done.
He had calculated that selling the company would net him over forty million dollars, enough for him to live comfortably for the rest of his life.
No one expected Wyatt to show up out of nowhere.
"Gideon isn't as laughable as the rumors suggest." Fiona chimed in, skillfully changing the topic. "Although the projects he facilitated aren't as flashy as Mr. Montgomery's, they still made money for the company, though not enough to cover Mr. Montgomery's losses."
The conference room fell silent after she spoke.
In a big company like the Durham Group, how much support could Lucian really muster?
Aside from his closest allies, most people acted out of self-interest.
The harsh financial figures were laid out before them, clearly showing where the profits came from and where the losses went.
Everyone's mindset began to shift.
