Chapter 1435

"Why'd you come here?" Darwin asked softly.

"To come home, of course," Fiona replied, glancing at Darwin.

The car stopped right outside the small house.

The two-story house hadn't changed much, but it looked a lot newer.

"Did you renovate it?" Darwin asked excitedly as he got out of the car.

"It's a tradition here. Whenever someone gets married, the house gets a makeover," Fiona said with a smile. "I couldn't let you down, could I?"

Darwin felt a mix of emotions, his eyes turning red.

"What's wrong with you?" Fiona was caught off guard by Darwin's reaction.

"Just overwhelmed," Darwin said, his eyes still red but smiling at Fiona.

Fiona shook her head. "Don't just stand there, grab the luggage and let's go inside!"

Darwin quickly nodded.

He took the luggage from the driver and followed Fiona through the gate.

The lights came on.

Darwin heard Fiona cheerfully call out, "Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, I'm home."

He quietly followed behind her.

Darwin suddenly pictured a young Fiona, surrounded by family, coming home after a day of playing outside.

After a long day of traveling, Fiona was exhausted.

As soon as they got home, she took a quick shower and collapsed onto the bed, fresh and clean.

Darwin came out of the shower.

Fiona was already fast asleep, sprawled on the bed.

Darwin carefully turned off the lights in the room.

Then he gently got into bed, pulling Fiona into his arms, kissing her and nuzzling her neck.

Coming out of the research institute, Darwin had been anxious about reuniting with his lover.

But he never expected the past few days to be so relaxing and enjoyable.

There were no other distractions, just him and his beloved.

Fiona had even taken him to meet Aiden.

Now she had brought him to her childhood home, and tomorrow she would take him to pay respects to her most cherished relatives.

Just thinking about it filled Darwin with immense satisfaction.

The time at the research institute, though only a few days ago, felt like it had stretched into the distant past.

At this moment, Darwin felt an unprecedented sense of peace.

The next morning, at the crack of dawn, Fiona and Darwin set out.

They brought flowers and wine, making sure they had everything they needed, and arrived at West Mountain Cemetery before the sun was fully up.

The new caretaker didn't recognize Fiona, so they skipped the usual small talk at the gate.

Hand in hand, they walked up the hill.

Darwin's nervousness was visible.

Fiona didn't offer much comfort.

His nervousness was understandable.

Fiona, familiar with the place, led Darwin to her relatives' graves.

She noticed that the cenotaph Dagwood and the others had set up for her had been removed.

Shortly after she and Darwin got married, he had it taken down, saying it was bad luck.
