Chapter 775 Returning to the Apartment
At this moment, Fiona drove herself and Darwin to the vicinity of the Solomon Building. Darwin found the street view somewhat familiar, especially the flower shop they just passed by. It triggered some memories of flowers in his mind. Soon, they arrived at the underground parking.
"Is this a residential area?" Darwin finally asked Fiona.
"Yes," Fiona replied, smoothly parking the car in front of Building 2. Stepping out, she offered her hand to help Darwin.
Curiously surveying his surroundings, Darwin allowed Fiona to lead him into the elevator, her hand clasped firmly in his, as she pressed the floor button.
Before Darwin's accident, he had expressed a desire to live in the apartment with Fiona once more. The location chosen for today's press conference happened to be very close to that apartment. Inspired by a sudden idea, Fiona decided to bring him there.
At the entrance, Fiona held Darwin's hand to unlock the fingerprint scanner, and Darwin followed her into the house. As the lights came on, his gaze swept over everything.
Suddenly, his heart ached without any warning. "What is this place?" Darwin asked, looking at Fiona.
"Our previous home," Fiona replied gently. "We lived here for many years."
Home? Darwin's gaze scanned the living room again. His heart still ached, a pain he couldn't suppress.
Why did his heart ache so much upon returning to the home he shared with his ex-wife? What had happened here to evoke such strong emotions?
"What's wrong?" Fiona noticed Darwin's pale face and furrowed brows, her concern evident in her voice.
Darwin clutched his chest, shaking his head in pain. "My heart... it hurts," he said.
Fiona was taken aback. Darwin had lost his memories, and the pain in his heart was just an instinctive reaction to everything he witnessed here. So, this place didn't bring him happiness; it brought him pain.
"Let's go, let's go home," Fiona reassured, tightly holding Darwin's hand. This was an outcome she hadn't anticipated.
Soon, she guided Darwin downstairs and into the car. As they drove away from the house, Darwin's heartache gradually subsided. Fiona had thoroughly reviewed all of Darwin's medical reports, confirming his heart was healthy. Thus, the pain he experienced was likely just a reaction to seeing the apartment.
"What happened there?" Darwin asked Fiona.
Fiona was silent for a moment. "We had an argument," she finally said.
Darwin looked at Fiona, sensing that the truth couldn't be as simple as just an argument. However, Fiona remained tight-lipped, refusing to divulge further details. Despite his growing curiosity, Darwin opted to remain silent.
Soon, they returned to Emerald Pool, where Thalassa praised Darwin in the living room. Observing Darwin's distraction, Fiona guided him back to their room.
While Darwin was showering, Fiona saw a message from Antony. She was already annoyed, and her expression immediately turned cold.
After a moment of thought, she replied: [Tomorrow morning at ten, Klein Mansion.]
Mr. Solomon Sr. wasn't entirely certain if Antony had the capability to intimidate Fiona. Thus, when Antony returned the call, Mr. Solomon Sr. found himself somewhat taken aback by the prompt response. It all transpired so swiftly! It appeared that Fiona's vulnerability lay in her child, indicating her shrewdness.
"Where?" Mr. Solomon Sr. immediately frowned. "Tell her to change the location! I'm not going to Klein Mansion!" Anniston's death was tragic and bizarre, a memory that always instilled fear in him.
"Mr. Solomon Sr., I advise you not to cause trouble. It's already good that Fiona agreed to meet. If you insist on changing the location, what if Fiona gets angry and refuses to see you?" Antony cautioned, his tone laced with concern.
Mr. Solomon Sr.'s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. Fortunately, it was daytime, so he could go! What was important was that Mr. Solomon Sr. should have fought for more property for his unborn child!
"Fine!" Mr. Solomon Sr. could only agree. He then hung up the phone with Antony.
Around the same time, Mr. Solomon Sr. arrived home to find it empty upon opening the door. Later that afternoon, when he contacted his girlfriend, she revealed, "Don't let your daughter-in-law know that I still have a child in my belly. I'll return to our overseas home to hide for a while. We won't contact each other until the matter is settled, and you can come back directly once you're done, and we'll reunite as a family!"
Because his girlfriend had always been so good, Mr. Solomon Sr. didn't have any doubts. He even thought she was considering it very thoughtfully and agreed immediately.
As he lay on the sofa, a hint of loneliness lingered in his heart. After some contemplation, he briefly entertained the idea of calling a woman to keep him company. However, he quickly dismissed the thought, realizing that with his girlfriend, he could fulfill his dream of becoming a father.
Immersed in the tenderness his girlfriend had shown him and longing for the future happiness of their family of three, Mr. Solomon Sr. felt a sense of anticipation and contentment.
The next day, Fiona made an excuse to leave for the company early. Darwin, for the first time in a while, took the responsibility of sending the children to school alone.
"Dad, we have a school celebration coming up, and the kids in our class are going to sing together. Will you come?" Without Fiona around, the kids grew more unruly. They abandoned their booster seats, opting instead to squeeze next to their dad.
"Of course," Darwin readily agreed, then looked at Charles. "Charles, does your school have such activities too?"
"Our class doesn't participate in these activities," Charles replied. "I'll come to watch on the day of my sister's school celebration."
Darwin nodded. After spending these days together, he could clearly feel the difference between Chicago and Charles. Chicago was the kind of child with high emotional needs, while Charles was different. He was too silent. Sometimes Darwin was afraid that he communicated too much with Chicago and neglected Charles's feelings.
After seeing off the two children, Darwin glanced at the time before turning to Mike. "Take me to find her."
Taken aback, Mike replied, "Ms. Chelsea is at the company..."
"I know she's not there. Take me to find her," Darwin said in a cold, imposing tone.
"Mr. Solomon Jr., you're putting me in a difficult position," Mike muttered. "What if Ms. Chelsea gets angry because of this?" Before he could finish his sentence, he met Darwin's gaze. Honestly, he had always felt that Darwin should handle the Solomon family's affairs. Why should Ms. Chelsea have to deal with those bad people from the Solomon family?
"Fine!" Mike readily agreed, immediately steering the car towards Klein Mansion.
Inside Klein Mansion, Mr. Solomon Sr., who couldn't wait, arrived ten minutes early. He paced in the overgrown garden. He didn't dare to enter the house alone.
Looking at the once carefully arranged garden, now in this state, Mr. Solomon Sr. couldn't help but feel a little emotional. Then he looked at the expensive house again.
If he had known he could still be a father, he shouldn't have given up dividing Anniston's property. This building could have been sold for a lot of money!
