Chapter 570 The Rush
Shortly after, Fiona received two perfect score exam papers.
"Ms. Fiona, Charles is a genius," the principal conveyed with utter affirmation. "Having him attend our school is a great honor for us. Rest assured, we will not waste Charles's abilities. We will dedicate ourselves to teaching him!"
"So, does this mean Charles has passed the entrance exam?" Fiona set down the papers.
"Of course," the principal replied eagerly. "Now, the only thing left is to choose his subjects. At our school, we have two honors classes that are interdisciplinary, but each student has a focus subject."
As he spoke, the principal handed her information about the honors classes.
"Once students select their focus subject, the teacher of that subject becomes their advisor. While they learn other subjects, the advisor will place extra emphasis on teaching their chosen field."
"Hmm," Fiona nodded in understanding.
"Charles is a rare talent. The choice of subjects is crucial for him. Please, discuss it carefully with your family when you return home..."
The principal's words were still hanging in the air when Charles asked, "Do I have to choose? Can't I learn everything?"
The principal was taken aback and instinctively glanced at Fiona.
Fiona smiled gently. "This is for Charles to decide. Darwin and I do not intervene in his choices."
"How about this," the principal proposed warmly, "let's proceed with the enrollment, and Charles, you can choose your subjects later based on how you feel about your studies. How does that sound?"
"Okay," Charles agreed directly.
Following this, the principal, as if afraid that Charles might change his mind and run off, swiftly processed Charles's enrollment.
"Charles!"
No sooner had the enrollment been completed, Frank, who had just finished school, came looking for him, with Evelyn in tow.
"Frank, Evelyn, you two know Charles?" the principal asked, surprised evident in his tone.
Frank nodded. "Charles is the 'little teacher' I met at the campsite and mentioned to you before. You even praised his problem-solving approach!"
Previously, out of curiosity and a desire to connect with talented youngsters, the principal had insisted on finding out more about the child, but Frank, ever loyal and aware of Charles's illness, steadfastly refused to divulge details, fearing that the principal might disturb his rest.
"So, it's that Charles! No wonder some of the solutions felt so familiar to me!" the principal exclaimed, delighted.
"Principal, has Charles passed his admission test?" Evelyn asked urgently.
Ever since Frank told her that Charles was coming for the entrance exam, Evelyn had been anxious. Last year, a friend she had made at summer camp, who was also quite talented, failed the entrance exam, and Evelyn had been upset about it for a long time.
“Of course! Charles scored a perfect score. You all should really look up to Charles! A few more top-scoring students like him, and I, the principal, could wake up laughing from my dreams!” The principal's stern facade melted into joy as he spoke.
"Perfect score!" Evelyn was thrilled.
"So, which class will Charles join?" Frank asked with great excitement. "Come to our class! Evelyn and I will take care of him!"
Charles remained silent at the suggestion.
There was no need for such fuss.
Fiona couldn't help but almost laugh at Charles's look of wanting to escape.
"It's about time to pick up Chicago from school, Mommy, let's go." Charles tugged at Fiona's sleeve, his gesture short of directly pleading for her rescue.
"Okay." Fiona nodded, "Mr. Principal, Frank, and Evelyn, Charles and I need to go pick up Chicago now, so we'll be leaving."
"Alright! Charles, we'll be waiting for you at school," Frank said quickly.
Charles nodded.
Holding Fiona's hand, they walked away without looking back, while Frank and Evelyn jumped around happily behind them. Charles's lips curled into a slight, satisfied smile, a detail Fiona keenly noticed.
It seemed that the decision to switch Charles's school was spot on.
On the way to Chicago's school, Fiona made a call to Darwin.
She had intended to tell him that if he hadn't left yet, he didn't need to come to pick up Chicago as they were already on their way.
However, Darwin was already near the school.
As Fiona arrived at the school gate, she saw Chicago following her teacher, walking out. She put on her mask, got out of the car, and opened the door.
Chicago spotted her almost instantly.
"Mommy!" She called out joyously and, like a horse freed from the reins, ran towards Fiona.
Fiona laughed as she scooped up Chicago in her arms.
"How come you're here?" Chicago asked in surprise.
"Charles just finished his entrance exam, and he insisted on picking you up from school," Fiona gestured towards the car.
"Charles scored another perfect score, didn't he," Chicago said with certainty.
"How did you know?" Fiona asked, surprised.
"Charles is so amazing, of course, I know," she said proudly, then made to climb down from Fiona's arms. "I want to go congratulate Charles!"
Fiona set her down.
Chicago happily opened the car door and climbed in.
Fiona was about to meet up with Darwin when she saw his car parked not far away, the rear door open. Darwin stepped out and started walking toward her.
Many parents arrived to pick up their kids from school.
Dressed in a sharp suit, Darwin stood tall and commanding. His entrance immediately captured many onlookers' attention.
"Why did you get out of the car?" Fiona whispered, aware of the gazes upon them. "Everyone's looking at you!"
"Charles had a smooth start in the gifted program today," Darwin replied as he opened the passenger door. "We need to find a place to celebrate." He gestured for Fiona to take a seat.
Smiling resignedly, Fiona settled into the passenger seat, while Darwin walked around the front of the car and sat behind the wheel.
No sooner had he settled himself in the driver's seat than Chicago approached with pride beaming from his face. "Charles scored two hundred percents! How awesome is that?"
Darwin nodded, smiling. "Absolutely awesome, so now we're off to have a feast to celebrate for Charles!"
"Yay! I love big meals the most!"
"Let's roll" Darwin raised his hand and swept it forward emphatically.
Chicago, following suit, mirrored his gesture. "Let's roll!"
Fiona couldn't help laughing, and even Charles let a slight smile curl his lips.
The school entrance was bustling with people, including grandparents and young parents there to pick up their children. When the handsome guy in the suit descended from his luxury car, someone took a video and posted it on TikTok.
"My kid gets a zero, and I'm fuming, but the handsome guy heals all wounds!"
Initially, the intention was to capture Darwin's Rolls-Royce, but they ended up filming his entire approach to Fiona, opening the car door for her, and then taking the wheel himself.
It had to be said, Darwin was incredibly photogenic. The video, shaky as it was, couldn't detract from his broad shoulders and narrow waist, the proportions of a model.
The comments section exploded.
[Is that Mr. Darwin?] someone exclaimed, tagging a group of friends.
Conversations quickly ensued.
[That's really Mr. Darwin. His physique is incredible, sculpted!]
[Mr. Darwin is touching Fiona Woods's waist! Someone chop his hand off!]
[Cool it, upstairs,] another comment read. [That's his wife, people!]
