Chapter 378 Hasty Escape

Grace couldn't concern herself with Aurora's drama. She hurried to her husband's side to soothe his chest and back, whispering, "Honey, didn’t I tell you not to argue with her? Why can't you ever listen?"

Jay's situation had hurt them, and what had happened with Jessie had upset them even more. Grace feared that angering Aurora further might lead her to do the unthinkable against the elderly couple.

In that moment, Bob seemed to come to a decision. “Didn’t someone want to buy our house?”

Grace was startled. They both adored their home and had poured a lot of love and care into decorating and landscaping, infusing it with their romantic spirits. A relative of the neighbors had passed by around New Year, taken a fancy to their garden, and had repeatedly inquired if they would consider selling, insisting they be the first to know if the house ever went on the market.

"You mean...?"

"You're right to worry," Bob said, looking intently at his wife. "I can’t risk even a one percent chance of danger with you."
P
Grace's eyes brimmed with tears.

"This house is quite valuable now, and the offer they made was a lot higher than when we bought it, so we'd make a tidy profit!" The old man's voice was gentle and reassuring. "Haven’t you always talked about wanting to travel? We couldn’t because I was still working, then we were busy with Jay. It's time we took advantage of our health to see the world!"

Tears streaming down her face, Grace nodded in agreement.

Bob was known for his decisive actions. He phoned the prospective buyer without delay.

In less than an hour, the buyer arrived, enamored with the house even more upon seeing it again.

"Why did you suddenly decide to sell? I thought you both were set against it," the buyer asked, puzzled.

Bob chuckled, "Well, you see, my wife and I want to travel the world. We don’t exactly want to do it on a shoestring budget, so we're going to need a little more cash."

The buyer beamed with joy.

In truth, he had gotten someone to check out the energy of the place some time ago.
The orientation and location of the house were particularly lucky for him!

That very day, the buyer swiftly proceeded to sign a real estate contract with the Smiths. There were no financial obstacles for him – no loans, just a straight-up cash payment.

Both families took advantage of the working hours to complete the property transfer.

The buyer wasn't in a hurry to move in. He gave Bob and Grace half a month to vacate the property, but Bob and Grace had no intention of dragging their feet.

That same day, they hired a moving company they knew well to pack up Bob's collection of books and memorabilia.

All the agreed-upon furniture was packed up and ready to go.

The very next morning, at first light, they moved everything to their other house in the suburbs.

It was smaller than their previous home, but it comfortably accommodated all their belongings.

Once they were settled in their new home, Darwin sent a message that Jessie had gotten the all-clear.

"Jessie's out of the woods. She’ll make it."

"That's wonderful!" Grace burst into tears of happiness.

"The vets said that Jessie’s family brought in some specialists and expensive equipment. If they hadn't done that, Jessie might not have pulled through," reflected Grandpa. "Given the lengths Jessie's family went to save her, I'm sure they'll take good care of her. We can travel with peace of mind."

"Absolutely," Grace nodded.

After ensuring that their books and collectibles were well-organized, Bob and his wife immediately departed for the tropical paradise down south. The season was just perfect for the blooming spectacle.

As for Aurora, she didn't get home until the next day, and she returned in high spirits.

She'd heard that Kenny had finished his mission early and was coming back to the States.

It was perfect timing since the dog had passed away.

She planned a chance encounter with Kenny to garner his sympathy.

But little did she know...

As soon as she got home, before she even entered the house, she was met with an unwelcome sight—her luggage lined up outside.

"Aurora, you're finally back. I've been waiting for two days!" said Felix impatiently, pointing at the suitcases. "All your stuff's right here. Get someone to come and move it."

Aurora thought her grandparents were trying to kick her out.

She crossed her arms and scoffed, "When did I ever say I wanted to move out? Who gave you the right to touch my things?" She was fuming.

The nanny jumped, then stammered in response, “The owners sold the house. The new owners are moving in soon. It wasn't me who packed everything up. The moving company did it. The Smiths said nothing was left behind."

"Who are you trying to fool? How could the house be sold just like that?" Aurora was shocked and pale.

Internally, the nanny marveled at the Smiths' foresight. They were cultured and clever indeed and had predicted exactly what Aurora would ask.

She pulled out a folded-up piece of paper, unfolded it, and handed it to Aurora. "Here's a copy of the new deed."

Aurora snatched it, and her face turned even uglier.

The nanny was scared of her.

After completing her task, she had no intention of staying and grabbed her suitcase to leave.

But Aurora caught her arm, gripping it tightly, her sharp nails digging painfully into the nanny's skin. "What are you doing?"

"Where did they go?” Aurora demanded.

"I don't know. The Smiths told me they don't need a caretaker anymore, and that I should find a new job!"

In reality, the Smiths had found her a new job.

The nanny shook off Aurora's hand, cursed her as a lunatic, and ran off quickly.

Aurora immediately tried to call her grandfather.

No answer.

She called her grandmother with the same result.

Then she reached out to her parents.

“So they sold their own house, so what? Why are you getting so worked up?” Mom said indifferently. “I told you not to bother the old couple, but you just wouldn’t listen…”

Aurora, irritated, hung up the phone.

She kept calling her grandparents, not because she cared about them, but because selling the house meant she couldn’t stay in this community. How would she be able to "accidentally" run into Kenny? How could she get close to him?

After trying to reach them for over ten minutes with no success, Aurora had no choice but to rent a small townhouse in the community on short notice.

The deposit and rent took nearly $10,000 out of her pocket.

As she arranged for movers to transfer her belongings, she wished she could tear the old couple apart.

Just as she was thinking those dark thoughts...

Standing on the balcony, Aurora saw a figure she despised: Thalassa.

And with Thalassa was a very pale and attractive man, tall and slim. They seemed very close, laughing and talking.

What shocked Aurora even more was the little boy walking in front of them.

A thought suddenly sprang to mind. Thalassa must be having an affair with this man, and they even had a child, all behind Kenny’s back!
