Chapter 1028
Approaching the window, they found it tightly shut, with the curtains drawn firmly.
Initially, they thought no one was inside.
However, among those who went, there was one with more experience.
Suddenly, he noticed something unusual at the bottom of the door.
Bending down to inspect, he saw that the gap beneath the door was blocked by something. Getting closer, he could smell a foul stench.
They were all too familiar with this smell, having just encountered it near Arnold's body by the lake.
In their terror, they immediately called the police.
The nearby patrol officers arrived and also detected the odor, instantly realizing something was amiss.
When they broke open the door, they found the bodies of the two missing security guards in the living room and the bathroom respectively.
The air was both stuffy and damp.
A heavy rain began to pour down suddenly.
Fiona sat in the car, and Christopher soon returned.
"Potassium cyanide poisoning," he said as he got into the car, revealing the cause of death.
Fiona's hand gently tapped her knee as she leaned back against the headrest with her eyes closed. After a moment of silence, she said, "To kill someone in the territory of the Walker family without leaving a trace, and then to kill the accomplices as well. I really underestimated her."
"Abigail?" Christopher's expression showed disbelief.
Abigail's incompetence was well-known. In novels and TV shows, she would be the type to get caught quickly when attempting any wrongdoing, serving as a warning to others.
How could she possibly kill Arnold and then two security guards without making a sound?
"Then who do you think the murderer is?" Fiona asked.
Christopher thought for a moment. "When it comes to murder unless the killer is a psychopath, it usually boils down to three scenarios: revenge, passion, or profit. I think the conflict likely started between the security guards and Arnold. They might have teamed up to kill him, and then one of them betrayed the others, leading to more deaths."
Fiona glanced at Christopher. "That makes sense. How about we make a bet?"
"A bet?" Christopher was momentarily confused. "What do you want to bet on?"
"I think the murderer is Abigail. If I win..." Fiona thought for a moment. "You will help Stuart fertilizing for three months."
Christopher, thinking of the smell, felt a bit nauseous, but his competitive spirit was ignited. "And if I win?"
"I'll buy you that sports car you liked."
"Deal!"
In an instant, Christopher seemed to no longer mind the stench.
Fiona nodded.
Her gaze shifted back to the small house, which was cordoned off by police tape in the heavy rain.
She thought to herself, 'Abigail, this time you won't escape.'
Fiona said, "Let's go back."
The driver slowly started the car, heading towards the Walker family home.
The rain continued to pour.
After the on-site autopsy was completed, the two bodies were quickly taken away.
The police were still investigating and interviewing at the scene.
The heavy rain made the night even darker, the shadows growing deeper.
Across the turbulent lake, Abigail, dressed in a black raincoat, watched the flashing lights of the police cars on the opposite shore. Her hand, hanging by her side, couldn't help but tremble.
