Chapter 1139
After the meeting, Laura trailed Fiona into her office.
Even though Fiona hadn't been around long, everything was spick and span.
The plants looked even greener than before.
"How'd we do, Chelsea? We didn't screw up, did we?" Laura leaned against the desk, grinning and waiting for some praise.
Fiona shot her a smile. "Not only did you not screw up, you blew my expectations out of the water. After this project, I can hand over the company to you and start prepping to take over the family biz."
She wasn't kidding.
Janna's health was going downhill every year.
Fiona figured if she took over the Rhoads Group sooner, Janna could possibly find some relief.
Just a few days ago, Janna was talking about it, envying Stuart's laid-back country life now.
Even though she sometimes tagged along with Stuart to plant veggies or fruits in her downtime, she always missed the harvest.
Plus, she had to fly back and forth.
Long flights were a killer for her.
As soon as Laura heard this, she immediately switched gears. "Chelsea, I was just messing around. We still need you."
"You can handle it," Fiona said seriously. "Laura, I gotta go back to the Rhoads Group sooner or later. Monsoon Investment is my baby. I can't trust anyone else with it, only you."
Laura was a bit taken aback.
"After this project, I'm giving you a new title. You won't be my assistant anymore; you'll be the CEO of Monsoon Investment," Fiona said seriously. "You'll have full decision-making power over everything at Monsoon Investment from now on."
Laura's eyes got a bit misty.
As a daughter of Nimbus, who hadn't been held back?
Even though Laura was born and raised in Country M, her parents' views were still old-school.
In their eyes, she was never as good as her brothers.
Her mission should be to get married and have kids when she hit a certain age, becoming a good wife and mom like her mother, supporting her husband and raising kids till old age.
But Laura wasn't having it.
They thought she couldn't hack it, so she studied hard to prove them wrong.
She got into Odyssey Online School, and when they didn't give her money, she scored a full scholarship herself.
They pushed her to get married, so she rebelled, causing a rift with her family that still hasn't healed.
Even now, she made more in a month than her brothers did in a year.
Her parents still didn't give her props.
But Chelsea said that Monsoon Investment, which she had poured her heart into, she couldn't trust anyone else with it, only her.
"Chelsea, go do what you gotta do. I'll make Monsoon Investment better and better. I won't let you down!" Laura said firmly.
Fiona beamed. "Then it's all yours."
"Okay!" Laura nodded enthusiastically.
Later, Monsoon Investment became a world-class investment bank.
Laura also became a big shot in the investment banking industry.
Even though her parents still didn't give her props, thinking she was straying from the traditional path, believing that a good woman should raise kids and support her husband, not hustle in a man's world, which was pretty embarrassing for them.
But her career made Laura's heart strong and unbreakable. She was no longer the little girl who craved her parents' approval in everything she did.
Facing such accusations, she found them laughable and no longer felt wronged or sad.
Because the meeting went off without a hitch, Fiona left the company early at 4:30 p.m.
This time coincided with the kids getting out of school.
She couldn't make it in time, so she drove straight home.
Arriving at Emerald Pool, Fiona changed her shoes at the entrance.
Lyold happily came over with a new dessert she had made. "Chelsea, this is your favorite flavor!"
Fiona looked helpless.
Lloyd was as much of a dork as ever.
Fiona said, "Lyold, take it to the dining room. I'll eat it after I change my shoes."
"Okay!" Lyold nodded eagerly. "Should I also put Mr. Solomon's in the dining room?"
