Chapter 443 A Tale of Twins
Dessert? Nobody was interested anymore.
Reporters swarmed like bees, each vying for a spot to broadcast the explosive news quickly.
#Chelsea'sChild shot up to the top of the trending searches in no time.
"See, I called it! After Chelsea and Darwin's little rendezvous, they eloped, and now, years later, they're reuniting for the sake of their child!"
"Cut it out up there. Our heiress says it's her Chicago, not some other guy's illegitimate daughter. Mr. Solomon must be the 'other guy' you're referring to, right?"
"Is this the European media scoop our heiress was talking about??" Someone even dug up the old news clip revealing Fiona had a child.
In the frame, there was Janna, holding a two-year-old child. Only the hair were visible, but still, the cuteness was overwhelming.
The paparazzi, who snapped that photo, must have been charmed by that cuteness, too, as the report dedicated a lot of space to describing the child's adorable and mischievous nature.
"Those tiny feet in knitted socks are just too cute!!"
"I was lucky enough to see the little baby's face. Even when she was wailing, she was adorable, which shows her cuteness is off the charts!"
"Let's be real. Don't post pictures of the kid, alright?"
"So, the million-dollar question is, who is the father?"
"People are calling Darwin 'Daddy!' Are you deaf or what?"
"Stop dodging the question. We're asking about the biological father here. Do you think Darwin could be the father?"
Darwin saw that comment.
He was so mad he wanted to smash his phone.
"How could it not be me! It’s me!" He gritted his teeth.
Fiona took off her earrings and ignored him.
Darwin looked at her, muttering, "Honey, why don't you say Chicago is ours?"
"They didn't ask," Fiona said without looking at him. "I only denied that Chicago is Lilian's."
Darwin was speechless.
No wonder his wife had been acting strange since earlier.
"These media people just babble nonsense. Let me see which outlet asked that question; I'll bankrupt them," Darwin said gravely as he picked up his phone.
Fearing he would follow through, Fiona held his hand down. "Why unleash your fury on the media? You never put a lid on Lilian's fake stories, tying her to you. With Chicago's age and looks out there, I'd suspect she's yours and Lilian's too if I were them."
Fiona met Darwin's gaze.
His eyes were filled with sadness.
She immediately tried to withdraw her hand to check on Janna.
But Darwin caught her hand and pulled her into his embrace.
She lost her balance and tumbled directly into Darwin's arms, seemingly striking his injured arm in the process.
He inhaled sharply in response to the pain.
Yet, his other arm, unfazed, wrapped firmly around her waist.
"Darwin!" Fiona glared at him.
His face was ashen, a clear sign that his arm genuinely hurt.
Frowning, Fiona said, "Let go of me so I can check if the wound has reopened."
"I won’t!" Darwin tightened his embrace even more.
"What on earth are you trying to do?" Fiona dared not move for fear of hurting his arm again.
"How can we turn the page on Lilian's chapter?" Darwin inquired, "Do you want to hit me? Break my arms and my legs—I can take it."
Fiona was speechless.
Darwin fixed his gaze on her, adding, "Life is too long for her to keep coming between us."
"That's hilarious," Fiona retorted, devoid of amusement. "From the start, I was nothing but a stand-in for her, a remedy for your longing. She's destined to cast a shadow between us for a lifetime, and even her death won't close that chapter."
Darwin's eyes darkened with frustration.
He was at a loss for words.
Intimidation was futile, and how could you entice a billionaire heiress with anything?
The more he thought about it, the more irritated he became until his annoyance gave way to a reckless impulse.
He looked down, his gaze dropping to her lips and suddenly kissed her.
Fiona felt numb.
But numbness wasn't enough to stop her when Darwin's bite crossed a line.
"Darwin, that's enough! Don't push your luck!" Fiona turned away, pushing against his chest with both hands, finally creating some distance between them.
Heat swirled inside Darwin's head, slowing down his thoughts.
He bowed and delicately kissed the tip of Fiona's flushed ear.
She trembled slightly.
Then, Darwin buried his head in her neck and sighed resignedly.
"Fiona, what am I going to do with you?" he muttered, slowly releasing his hold on her.
Fiona sat up and straightened her clothes.
Then she stood up, took a couple of steps, paused, and turned back to Darwin. "I'd like to ask you the same question. What am I going to do with you?"
With that said, she left to join Janna.
Darwin lay sprawled on the couch; his gaze fixed on the crystal chandelier above.
After a moment, an idea struck him.
He sat up abruptly, grabbed his cell phone, and a sly smile crept across his face.
Online, people were eagerly consuming the latest gossip.
Unnoticed, a new account joined the fray, pushing back against the tide of certainty that Darwin wasn't the biological father of the child in question.
"Hey, your analysis is utterly wrong. Darwin is the kid's biological father!!"
Below was a blog post predicting Chelsea would soon break up with Darwin.
He replied, "No, never."
Because he commented a lot, he received plenty of backlash.
The more backlash he got, the more he hit back.
The argument escalated.
Someone asked, "You seem to know everything like Darwin himself."
He replied, "I am Darwin."
Now, things took off.
No one believed the person behind this new account was Darwin himself.
Why would a high-profile CEO personally get into a brawl?
The new account under Darwin's name was reported by thousands of people.
Fans of Darwin and shippers of various fantasy pairings were not scarce among the reporters.
Just as Darwin's account was on the brink of suspension, something that made everyone's jaw drop happened.
Twitter swiftly verified the new account.
The verified profile read: President and CEO of Solomon Capital, Darwin.
Moments later, the account verified as Solomon Capital's Darwin posted its first tweet.
"Thanks for the concern. My wife and I are in love. We’re parents to twins Charles and Chicago, who are adorable."
The picture showed a family of four under dazzling fireworks.
However, Darwin pixelated the kids' faces.
Then, Twitter went haywire.
