Chapter 1352

When Fiona showed up, Chicago was cracking jokes to make Janna laugh.

Janna was laughing so hard her eyes were practically shut.

She grabbed a box from behind her and handed it to Chicago.

Chicago opened it and found another diamond necklace.

"Grandma," Fiona said, sounding a bit exasperated.

"I only gave one diamond necklace this year. I've been very restrained!" Janna said. "Besides, Chicago is growing up; what's wrong with having another diamond necklace? Right?"

"Right," Chicago agreed, then added, "But great-grandma, Mommy's got a point too. You can't keep giving me more. What if I start wanting more and better stuff in the future?"

"What's the problem with that? Just buy better ones; our family can afford it. As long as you like it, I'd even buy you the moon!" Janna said warmly.

Fiona shook her head, speechless.

Dinner was extra lively with Chicago around.

Even Janna, who hadn't had much of an appetite lately, ate more.

Seeing how happy Chicago made Janna, Fiona decided to let Chicago sleep with Janna that night, which Chicago was totally up for.

Chicago picked out a storybook, saying she wanted to tell Janna a bedtime story.

Watching them head to the room, Ashton gently nudged Fiona's shoulder and said, "Chicago went to see Darwin and came back way happier; it's different from before when she was just pretending to be happy."

"Yeah." Fiona nodded.

Ashton went on, "Not sure if her grades will get better. At the last parent-teacher conference, they said her grades had dropped compared to last year."

Fiona said, "Before, Ethan was keeping an eye on her."

"How's Ethan?" Ashton asked.

Fiona replied, "He still hasn't contacted me, but the foster family sends me updates sometimes. He's always been well-behaved, and he's doing well in school there too."

Despite this, Fiona still felt pretty guilty about Ethan.

"He'll understand when he grows up," Ashton said, gently patting Fiona's back. "Going to a top school is different from going to a regular one."

Fiona responded, "Hopefully."

She didn't think Ethan would just let it go.

But whether he could or not, as long as he could live well in the future, that was all that mattered.

Around the same time, Rose made it through customs and got to the waiting area.

She booked such a close flight because she was worried Fiona might change her mind.

It wasn't until Rose got through customs that she let out a long sigh of relief.

After sitting down, she took an old phone out of her bag and turned it on.

As soon as it was on, she got several messages.

[Rose, how have you been lately? Mr. Graham took out the patient from Armie. Someone saw two kids who were very close to the patient.]

[Rose, I just confirmed that the ones who came are Darwin's children.]

Rose checked the date on the messages.

Of course, she knew Fiona had been super busy lately.

But Rose didn't expect her to be so busy that she wouldn't visit Darwin herself and only sent the kids.

Rose: [I'm doing well, I'm at the airport now, going back for a few days. Do you have time to meet?]

The reply came instantly. [She let you come back? That's awesome. Send me your flight info, and I'll pick you up!]

Rose sent the info.

Then she looked through the terminal's tall windows at the endless lights on the runway in the dark night.

She silently thought, 'Mom, don't worry. What you can do, I can do too.'
