Chapter 1259

Fiona held the frail Charles tightly in her arms.

"I'm sorry," she choked out, "I'm your mom, I should protect you and let you grow up without worries."

"It's not like that," Charles said softly, "You've done very well, it's just that I'm too smart."

Fiona broke into a smile through her tears.

"Thanks for sticking up for me in front of Chicago," she added.

"It's nothing," Charles responded, "Is that doctor really good?"

"Yeah." Fiona released Charles and touched his cheek. "Don't worry, Dad has a strong will. He has us in his heart, and he'll get better soon."

Charles thought for a moment and nodded. "Until then, you just need to work well. I've got Chicago covered."

"Am I too lucky to have such a good child?" Fiona's tears kept flowing.

"Maybe it's because you work too hard, and even God couldn't bear it, so He sent me and Chicago to take care of you," Charles said earnestly.

Fiona couldn't help but laugh.

"Mom," Charles suddenly called her seriously.

"What?" Fiona asked.

"Don't get sick, okay?" Charles said, his eyes turning red. "That would scare me."

Fiona's heart almost broke.

She hugged Charles tightly again and nodded repeatedly. "I won't get sick. I just had a check-up before going to North Alabam, and I'm very healthy. Alexander even gave me some supplements, and I'll drink them every day!"

"Okay." Charles's voice was very soft, which was as if he had breathed a sigh of relief.

Fiona stayed in Charles's room, watching over him until he fell asleep, then wiped her tears and left his room.

When she got to the living room, Kenny and Ashton were both there.

"Did it take that long for Charles and Chicago to fall asleep?" Ashton stepped forward.

She could tell at a glance that Fiona had been crying.

"Thanks for all your hard work these past few days," Fiona said sincerely.

"We're family, no need to thank us." Ashton pulled Fiona to sit down on the couch. "So, has Darwin contacted you?"

"No." Fiona shook her head lightly. "He's been very cooperative."

"That's good, it means he's really behaving now!" Ashton murmured, "Is he adapting over there?"

"He's already started formal treatment." Fiona paused. "Mr. Graham said he's cooperating very well."

"That's great!" Ashton nodded repeatedly.

"I plan to tell Janna about this when she comes back in a few days," Fiona continued, "We can't let her find out from other sources like before."

Ashton said, "She really has it tough, worrying about so many things."

Fiona also felt guilty.

Originally, Janna didn't need to worry or work so hard for Fiona's matters.

Ashton realized she had said something wrong.

She immediately changed the subject. "By the way, last time we went to Valcia to discuss cooperation, those arrogant guys were taught a lesson by you and became much more humble. They even called Kenny to try to make amends and asked us not to cancel the cooperation!"

"Those guys, making money too easily and being so arrogant." Fiona's eyes were cold. "I hope our joint research and development goes smoothly this time."

"It definitely will," Kenny said confidently.

This time, the chip development work was led by Kenny.

The high-end talents were also secretly assembled by Kenny while Ashton was recuperating, and he brought them back to Armie after traveling through several countries.

In the middle of the conversation, Melissa woke up.

Fiona held her and played with her for a while.

It had indeed been a very tiring day.

She went back to her room, took a shower, and when she came out, she felt the room was too big.

Fiona dried her hair.

She walked to the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window and sat down.

She was really tired, but her eyes wouldn't close.

She was still thinking, 'Why is Darwin so silent and obedient about his background? Could it be...'
