Chapter 446 Kenny's Fire Extinguisher
Lay tapped to play the video.
Hannah glanced at it sideways before letting her eyelids droop.
The footage was precisely the incriminating scene she had caught—Thalassa in a tangle with some pretty boy, cheek to jowl, writhing in a scuffle.
Watching the clip, Jasper quipped, "That looks less like a couple and more like a sibling fight. That's just like my sister trying to pin me down by the throat from behind..."
A glance from Hannah made Jasper feel her displeasure, though he was clueless about what he might have said wrong.
Lately, the college forum had been abuzz with stories about Kenny flaunting his wife to an unbearable degree, turning him into a hot topic and almost like local folklore.
So once the post went live, it became popular like a rocket, with discussions soaring high in the sky.
The rapid spread at social gatherings made it even more of a sensation.
"Didn't Lay say brains-and-beauty Kenny was bringing his girl tonight?" Someone glanced at Lay. "Looks like we're in for quite the show..."
Some guys who had never been fond of Kenny sneered, "Who would have thought even the class genius could get cuckolded!"
Amidst the heated discussions, Hannah said, "I live in the same neighborhood; I've bumped into her a few times. Initially, I thought she was just a bit domineering, but I never imagined…"
Jasper looked surprised. "Domineering? Did she bully you?"
"Not really; it's normal for girls to be a bit jealous. She wasn't too happy seeing me talk to Kenny.
Just like that, a narrative was established of a flirtatious, narrow-minded woman, prone to jealousy—set before anyone even met her.
"Ah…" Lay's face twisted uncomfortably. "Who knew such a sweet-looking girl could be like that?"
Then, the elevator dinged. The whispering ceased instantly, and the room fell silent.
As the elevator doors slid open, Kenny was spotted gently removing lint from Thalassa's eyelashes.
If it wasn't for the forum chatter, anyone witnessing this scene might blurt out its sweetness.
But with the forum gossip, the scene felt charged with awkwardness.
"The elevator's here," Thalassa reminded Kenny.
Then, she walked out, hand in hand with Kenny.
Hm?
Thalassa, with her relaxed and graceful demeanor, glanced around.
Something felt off.
"Brains-and-beauty! We've been waiting ages for you!" Lay broke the silence with a hearty laugh, striding over to Kenny, then turned to Thalassa. "And this must be your sister?"
"Thalassa, my wife," Kenny introduced, and then tenderly told Thalassa, "Lay, a college buddy of mine."
"Hello," Thalassa greeted with a polite nod.
"Hello! You look even prettier in person than in the photos. Kenny, you need to up your photography game," Lay joked, holding back the awkwardness.
Kenny also sensed something odd in the air.
His hand slipped down, enveloping Thalassa's, holding her tight.
"Now that we're all here, let's have dinner. We've got more activities planned for later!" Lay herded everyone toward the dining area.
Kenny and Thalassa hung back.
"Is it just me, or is something off?" Thalassa asked Kenny.
Kenny glanced at the crowd, a fabulous flicker in his eyes as his thumb gently caressed the back of Thalassa's hand. "No worries."
They arrived at the restaurant.
Everyone took their seats as indicated by the name cards.
To Kenny's left was Aurora, and to his right was Thalassa.
The pair were about to sit down when that troublemaker spoke up with a sly tone, "Hey Aurora, wanna switch places with me? Sitting next to the whiz kid here, Mrs. Walker might not be too thrilled."
Confused, Mrs. Walker thought, "What does it have to do with Aurora sitting there?"
"It's simply a joke. I wouldn't mind," Thalassa said, addressing the instigator with a gentle but firm tone.
"Thalassa, don't mind him. He's just annoying!" Aurora quickly said, "Keep talking nonsense; you'll owe us three drinks."
"Really? At almost thirty, who acts so petty?" Jasper couldn't hide the scorn in his voice.
There was no real ill will towards Thalassa.
But hearing rumors that Thalassa once bullied Aurora wouldn't stand.
Thalassa had just settled into her seat when she heard this and finally caught on.
Oh boy, it wasn't a simple class reunion; it was more of a setup.
Given the unfriendly vibe, there was no point being nervous anymore.
"You're right," Thalassa said with a smile, "At my age, pettiness is far behind me. If I have an issue with anyone here today, I will address it directly. There’s no need for passive-aggressiveness."
Jasper's face tensed.
Kenny's mood could have been better.
But when Thalassa finished speaking, Kenny's lips curled into a smile.
Aurora caught the humor on his face and didn't get it. What did Kenny see in this crass, impolite woman?
Lay noticed the tension building and quickly tried to lighten the mood, instructing the waiter to start serving dinner.
During the meal, several people attempted to converse with Kenny. He was anything but warm in his responses.
He was usually busy serving his wife—forking vegetables onto her plate, peeling shrimp, and picking out bones from the fish to place in her bowl.
Aurora clenched her freshly manicured nails into her palm.
She caught the eye of a girl sitting across from her, glaring at Kenny and his wife with quiet fury. This girl was well-known as one of Kenny's fervent admirers.
Her jealousy was already blazing, and the girl quickly whipped out her phone after catching Aurora's signal.
A large screen in the private dining room was waiting to be used.
After a few taps, the large screen suddenly appeared, capturing everyone's attention. The content from the post emerged on the screen, displayed as a video with a robotic narration.
"Scholar God hoodwinked by a treacherous lady, exposing Mrs. Walker's vile face!"
The moment that mechanical voice filled the space, the restaurant fell into absolute silence, so much so that you could have heard a pin drop.
What followed was a narrative everyone seemed to know all too well.
Thalassa glanced at Kenny, whose complexion had turned sour. She blinked, tugged at his sleeve, and looked at him with furrowed brows. Thalassa showed no anger; instead, she whispered teasingly, "Kenny, who knew you could get upset?"
Since they married, Thalassa has rarely seen Kenny angry, especially not with her. He was always gentle and tender.
Seeing Thalassa's smiling face seemed to douse whatever anger Kenny had been about to unleash. Thalassa played the role of Kenny's perfect fire extinguisher very well.
