Chapter 1459

Two days later.

Fiona's family, split into seven cars, set off from Emerald Pool, all pumped up and ready for adventure.

They traveled through all sorts of places, facing some nasty weather and even a flat tire along the way. But nothing could kill their vibe.

When the weather was nice, every night at the campsite, the adults helped the kids set up insect lights to attract all kinds of colorful bugs.

Even though Christopher was scared of caterpillars, he found the guts to help Charlotte look for beautiful butterflies.

Charlotte had her own rules; she wanted pretty butterflies but refused to harm them. So, whenever Christopher found a beautiful butterfly, he'd keep an eye on it until it died naturally, then carefully collect it with his tools.

One time, Fiona was walking hand in hand with Darwin when they saw Christopher crouched in the grass, watching a butterfly. Fiona said to Darwin, "This must be what they mean by 'a fierce tiger with a gentle heart.'"

In nearly two years, Christopher had gone from someone who believed in survival through violence to someone who wouldn't harm a butterfly because of something Charlotte said. Anyone who saw this couldn't help but be moved.

Since the trip began, Thalassa had inexplicably joined the kids' group. She was more excited than the children when observing stream life and was always at the forefront during nighttime insect-watching, thrilled by the sight of unique bugs.

Everyone naturally took turns looking after Melissa, but most of the time, she was in the arms of Darwin or Burl.

Seeing Thalassa's carefree behavior, Burl couldn't help but grumble a bit.

Kenny seriously told Burl, "Her childhood was short, and she never got to play like this. Think of it as making up for lost time."

Burl was deeply moved by this and gained a better impression of Kenny, solidifying his views on relationships.

The next day, Burl told Fiona, "Fiona, when I find a wife, I want to be like Kenny."

His love for Thalassa was selfless. He let her live the life she loved without constraints or criticism, always finding a fitting reason for her actions. The idea of making up for a lost childhood left a lasting impact on Burl.

On the ninth day of the trip, they arrived at Butterfly Valley a day later than planned.

When Christopher got out of the car and saw three caterpillars, he was so shocked that he nearly fainted. After that, no amount of fatherly love could get him out of the car again.

But Charlotte was genuinely happy. She held her camera, snapping photos so quickly her fingers were a blur.

Chicago was also delighted. The vibrant colors of the butterflies in nature filled her eyes with wonder.

After returning home, Chicago painted a massive oil painting inspired by the magnificent butterflies of Butterfly Valley. The following year, she won a prestigious art award with that painting.

Fiona and Darwin didn't participate much in the activities during the trip. Most of the time, they sat in outdoor chairs, sipping drinks and watching everyone else have fun.

Darwin looked at Chicago standing among a group of blue morpho butterflies, his eyes filled with love. But then he said, "Fiona, I don't remember including Butterfly Valley in our travel plans. Did you add it?"

"Charles added it," Fiona replied. "He originally wanted to add another place, but I thought it was too dangerous for the kids. I told him we'd go when they're older."

"Charles knows what Chicago likes," Darwin said, squeezing Fiona's hand. "He's such a good guy."

Fiona looked at Darwin, speechless, then started to laugh.

"What's so funny?" Darwin asked, puzzled.

"Nothing," Fiona said, shaking her head with a smile.
