Chapter 10 Naked in Public?
Ruth looked at the top-of-the-line Mercedes driving away, filled with jealousy. When she returned to the company, she immediately started mocking Katherine in front of her colleagues.
"Do you know why Katherine left so abruptly earlier? It turns out she's financially supported by a wealthy man and doesn't really care about her job here at all!"
Her colleagues were curious and gathered around, asking what happened. Ruth exaggeratedly said, "I kindly went to return some things to Katherine, and what do I see? She gets into a luxury car with a creepy old man. And she even sat on his lap, they looked so intimate!"
"An old man? How old did he look?" someone asked.
Ruth replied, "He looked like he was in his sixties!"
"In his sixties? He could be Katherine's Grandfather! I can't believe she has stooped so low!"
"She's nothing like she appears to be!"
Amy couldn't tolerate it anymore. She stood up and retorted loudly, "Ruth, stop spreading nonsense. Katherine is not that kind of person!"
Ruth sneered, "Nonsense? I saw it with my own eyes! If you don't believe me, go check the company's surveillance footage and see if Katherine really got into a Mercedes at the entrance!"
Amy was speechless. How could she possibly have access to the company's surveillance?
It was clear that Ruth was bullying Katherine. She not only got Katherine fired but also slandered her in the company. She was despicable!
Unable to confront Ruth, Amy had to sit back down and continue working, suppressing her anger.
But then, she noticed something strange. "What's this? Why is there a strange file on my computer desktop?"
A colleague chimed in, "I have an extra file on my computer too! I don't know what it is!"
"That's strange! I have one, too! Let's open it and see."
After everyone opened the folder and read its contents, the office fell silent.
Everyone looked at Ruth with a mix of curiosity, disgust, and mockery in their eyes.
Ruth became angry under their gaze. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"
Amy stood up again, even more confident than before. She said, "Ruth, it turns out you're the one playing games at work. You're the culprit behind the hacker attack on all the company's computers!"
Ruth was shocked and nervously said, "Amy, what are you talking about? You have no evidence. Be careful; I'll sue you for defamation!"
Of course, Amy had evidence. She said loudly, "Am I making it up? Isn't it you who deceived someone in the game, gained what you wanted, and then blocked them? But you didn't expect that person to be a professional hacker who attacked your computer and even compromised the company's systems!"
"And you tried to shift the blame to Katherine, and you even secretly modified the presentation slides that had errors during today's meeting! The evidence is right here on the computer. The hacker compiled all your malicious actions into files and left them on the computer. Now, each one of us has a copy!"
Faced with her colleagues' incredulous gazes, Ruth felt extremely guilty.
She hurriedly went back to her computer to check. The extra files on the desktop contained screenshots of her chat history with the gamer and video clips of her secretly modifying the presentation slides.
Henry stormed out of the office with a dark expression and angrily said, "Who is Ruth? How could the company have such a troublemaker? Tell her to pack up and leave immediately!"
Ruth turned pale. She suspected that Henry's computer might also have those files.
Upon hearing Henry's roar, Gavin quickly came out of the office, looking extremely uneasy.
Ruth saw Gavin and immediately ran over to seek his help. "Uncle Gavin, you have to help me, please."
Gavin glared at Ruth, pushed her away, and ignored her, wishing to immediately disassociate himself from this useless relative!
As a result, Ruth was stripped of her salary, fired, and left in a sorry state.
She had finally faced the consequences. She deserved it!
Amy was overjoyed and quickly took out her phone to inform Katherine of this good news.
At that moment, Katherine was sitting in the back seat of a top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which was moving slowly.
She held her personal belongings close and sat next to the car door.
Beside her was her 'newlywed husband' Alexander, but since she got into the car, Alexander hadn't even glanced at her. He was completely focused on his phone, with an indifferent expression.
Suddenly, Katherine's phone rang twice. She put the box in her arms aside and picked up the phone to check.
It was a message from Amy informing her that Ruth had been fired and Gavin had been severely reprimanded by Henry.
Katherine smiled, not surprised at all.
After the hacker told her the reason for attacking the Apricot Group's system, she had only given him one piece of advice: to target his enemies accurately and not involve innocent people.
Ruth was malicious and deserved to pay the price!
After replying to Amy's message, Katherine unconsciously crossed her legs, the two slender legs slightly overlapping.
She was only wearing an oversized T-shirt for men. As she sat, the hem of her shirt had ridden up a bit. The sunlight streamed in through the car window, casting a glow on her delicate skin, making it look even smoother and more tender.
Seemingly drawn to her legs, Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly.
He glanced at her attractive legs and noticed that they were almost as slim as his arms. She was too thin.
"Katherine, is this how you young people attract attention?" he asked with a hint of sarcasm.
Katherine looked at Alexander in confusion. "What do you mean? I haven't done anything."
Alexander put away his phone and stared at her, asking, "What are you wearing?"
Katherine lowered her head and realized. "It's your clothes! I accidentally dirtied the clothes the maid gave me this morning, so I had to wear yours."
Alexander supported his forehead with one hand and teased her, "Did you have my permission?"
Katherine rolled her eyes at him in annoyance and muttered, "I'm just wearing one of his shirts. Do I really need to call and ask for his approval? He's so petty!"
Besides, she didn't even have his phone number. How was she supposed to get his permission?
Alexander frowned. "What did you say?"
Katherine smiled faintly. "I mean, do you want your wife to make headlines as a social news story on your first day of marriage for appearing naked in public?"
Alexander looked at her with a mischievous smile.
He squinted slightly. "What if I say I don't care?"
Katherine clenched her teeth and said, "Then I'll take it off right now and give it back to you!"
Alexander sneered, "Sure, go ahead and take it off."
Katherine felt incredibly unlucky. How did she get involved with such a terrible man?
She remained silent for two seconds and then said, "Fine!"
