Chapter 1037 Just a Guest

Hellen just wanted to make sure that every dish Virginia tasted was decided by Christina, so that shameless woman Virginia would clearly recognize Christina's status in the Mitchell family from the inside out!

Christina thought for a moment and, without hesitation, suggested to Hellen, "How about we make some soup? I noticed Grandpa was coughing a bit last time, so a light soup might be good for him. And for dessert, how about a fruit salad? We should avoid anything too heavy. Does that sound okay, Grandma?"

Hellen was touched by Christina's thoughtfulness and her concern for Vincent's health.

"Of course, that's a wonderful idea. Your consideration for Grandpa's well-being will definitely make him very happy."

Christina's cheeks turned rosy, making her look even more charming. "Grandma, it's only natural for me to care about you and Grandpa!"

Hellen looked at Christina with increasing satisfaction. "As long as you and Bernard are happy, Vincent and I can rest easy in our old age."

Christina held her hand. "Grandma, we will!"

"Good." Hellen's hearty laughter came from the kitchen.

Hellen was so approachable, but why did she become a vicious old woman when it came to her?

Virginia craned her neck to see but couldn't make out anything. Her smile was almost frozen, while Bernard kept his eyes glued to some document.

"Bernard." As soon as she moved her seat to get closer, Bernard stood up. He impatiently tugged at his tie, and Virginia stood up as well.

However, Bernard coldly said, "There's a company matter that requires a video conference. Ms. Pearl, please wait here for a moment. Billy, come with me to the study."

With that, Bernard turned and left.

"Yes, Mr. Mitchell." Billy didn't even give Virginia a glance as he went upstairs.

In an instant, the empty hall was left with only Virginia. She picked up a cushion beside her and hit it a few times. The noise she made immediately brought a maid over to see what had happened.

With a forced smile, she picked up the cushion that had fallen to the ground and lightly patted it. "Oh dear, I accidentally knocked the cushion to the floor. I'll pick it up now."

The maid just nodded and turned away, not paying much attention to her.

As soon as the maid turned around, Virginia's face darkened. Even a maid dared to slight her? She wouldn't believe it if it wasn't Hellen's doing!

Damn Hellen, it would be better if she were out of the picture!

In the study.

Bernard sat in his office chair without speaking immediately. His long, strong hand tapped lightly on the desk. Even though he didn't say a word, the pressure was immense, and Billy felt the air grow heavy.

When he heard Bernard mention a video conference downstairs, he knew he couldn't escape today!

"Don't you have anything to explain?" Bernard finally spoke in a deep voice when Billy's back was almost drenched in cold sweat.

"Mr. Mitchell, are you referring to...?" He carefully recalled his recent work, which he had completed as usual, except for...

Bernard glared at him. "Have you forgotten your position? Who is your superior?"

Billy lowered his head. "Mr. Mitchell, it's you."

Seeing that Billy understood the problem, Bernard leaned back slightly, and the invisible pressure finally lifted."Then tell me, why didn't you inform me first when Grandma asked you to bring Virginia home for dinner?"

Billy bowed and explained, "Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell told me not to inform you. I..."

Bernard snorted coldly. "If something like this happens again, don't follow Grandpa and Grandma's orders. Inform me first! Alright, you can go now."

Hearing Billy leave, Bernard leaned against the desk and sighed, rubbing his temples. He knew exactly what Hellen was thinking, but he couldn't just ignore Virginia.

Years ago, Virginia's father had done him a great favor. Before he died, his only wish was for Bernard to take care of his only daughter, Virginia.

He had promised, and he had to keep his word.

Downstairs.

The maid brought out the last dish, but Bernard hadn't come down yet. Hellen was a bit displeased. "Bernard is always busy with company matters. Can't he spare a moment? The company won't collapse without him for a while. Doesn't he have enough people working under him?"

Hellen glanced at Billy as she said this.

Billy remained unmoved. Bernard's words had made him fully aware, so he only listened to half of what Hellen said.

Virginia suddenly leaned over and softly comforted, "Mrs. Hellen Mitchell, Bernard works so hard managing such a big company. He has to make all the decisions, so it's understandable that he's indispensable. Don't worry, I'll go upstairs and call Bernard down. No matter how important work is, he still needs to eat. Health is more important!"

Christina had intended to call Bernard herself, but hearing Virginia say this, she paused. Since Virginia was so eager, she might as well let her do it.

Bernard would probably prefer to see Virginia anyway!

Christina's lowered gaze seemed a bit complicated.

Hellen snorted. "Ms. Pearl, you're a guest. How can we ask you to go? Christina, you go call Bernard. He usually listens to you. Go quickly."

Hellen looked at Christina with eyes full of affection, but the same eyes were cold and sarcastic when they fell on Virginia.

Hellen's every word and action was telling Virginia not to covet Bernard anymore.

Christina quickly brought Bernard down, their hands tightly clasped together, even hurting Christina's hand.

"Bernard!" She leaned close to Bernard's ear, wanting to say something.

Bernard instinctively lowered his head and turned. "What?"

"You're holding too tight; my hand hurts."

Bernard glanced at her and loosened his grip a bit, but only to the point where it didn't hurt. It was still tight.

Christina didn't understand why he was holding so tightly. Did he think she would run away if he let go?

Downstairs, Hellen couldn't help but complain. "You're always busy with your company. We have guests today, and you don't even come down to accompany them?"

Virginia was about to say it was fine, but Hellen continued, "Fortunately, Ms. Pearl is an understanding guest and didn't mind! Otherwise, it would have been very rude of you today!"

Hellen had already made her point, and Virginia forced a few laughs. "It's nothing, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell. I understand Bernard's work."

Hellen's words clearly drew a line between her and Bernard, reminding Virginia that she was just a guest.
