Chapter 654 Burn the Painting
Katherine gave a nod and trailed after the maid.
Watching her head towards that off-limits room she used to live in, Sunny got all hyped up. "Bernard, is she really...?"
Bernard just stared at Sunny, not saying a word, but his eyes were all serious. "Don't tell anyone, especially not the grandparents or Edwin!"
Sunny caught the vibe and nodded seriously. "Got it. My lips are sealed."
Bernard let go of Sunny. "Head back to your room, and don't bug her unless you really have to."
Sunny nodded. "Okay."
The second Sunny got back to his room, he couldn't wait to call Ambrosia. "Ambrosia, guess what? Katherine's at my place!"
"Yeah, I know," Ambrosia said, sounding totally chill.
Sunny said, "Did she call you or something?"
Ambrosia nodded. "Yep."
"There's more! Big news!"
"What?"
Sunny could barely keep it together but tried to keep his voice down. "Katherine is my long-lost sister!"
Ambrosia paused for a sec before saying, "You just figured that out?"
Sunny was floored. "Wait, you knew all along?"
Ambrosia chuckled, "Yep."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Sunny kept going, "Ambrosia, I was such a jerk to Katherine at first, and now I feel like crap about it. I can't believe I treated her like that."
While Sunny kept rambling on the phone, Ambrosia just put it down on the table and let him talk to himself. She changed into her comfy clothes and walked out of her room.
In the living room, Frank handed a glass of water to Jonathan. "Mr. Mostow, have some water and then get some rest. Katherine's put you through enough today."
Jonathan took the glass and sipped. "Why can't you just tell me where Katherine is?"
Frank smiled helplessly. "It's not that we don't want to, but Katherine told us not to spill the beans to anyone."
Jonathan frowned. "Are you sure she's safe?"
Frank nodded. "Absolutely. She's in a really safe spot. Don't worry. You'll find out soon enough."
Still uneasy, Jonathan asked again, "Is she at Alex's place?"
Frank shook his head. "Relax, she's definitely not at the Melville Mansion."
Jonathan was quiet for a bit, then put down the glass. "Alright, I won't keep you any longer."
Frank said politely, "Take care, Mr. Mostow."
After Jonathan left, Frank shut the door and turned to Ambrosia, shrugging. "Mr. Mostow's got it bad for Katherine."
Ambrosia took a sip of water. "You think Katherine's into him?"
Frank shook his head. "Katherine's still into Alex. It's good she's at the Mitchell Mansion now; Bernard won't let Alex mess with her anymore."
Ambrosia said, "Fingers crossed!"
Katherine took a bath in the room, which was supposedly the one she lived in as a kid.
The maid had everything set up: cozy pajamas, fresh bedding, pillows, and even a charger.
While drying her hair, Katherine plugged in her phone and checked her messages. There were many missed calls, mostly from Frank and Ambrosia, but Jonathan blew up her phone the most.
She thought about texting Jonathan to let him know she was okay. His social media messages were all over the place, asking where she was and if she was alright.
Feeling a bit emotional, she shot him a quick text: [I'm fine. My phone just died.]
Jonathan replied almost instantly: [Katherine, where are you now?]
Katherine replied: [I don't wanna say.]
If she told him, he'd definitely come looking for her. And with his good relationship with Bernard, Bernard wouldn't stop him.
Jonathan sent another message: [Why won't you tell me?]
Katherine: [You'll know later. I'm tired, going to sleep now.]
After sending that, she exited the chat. Just as she was about to lock her phone, she noticed a friend request notification. It was from Alex.
This was a new account; she had ditched her old one to avoid him. She had no idea why he was trying to add her.
She rejected his request and locked her phone. But after drying her hair and getting back to bed, Alex sent her another friend request, this time with a message: [Don't you want the painting?]
Katherine was fuming, gripping her phone tight.
Alex knew exactly how to push her buttons. She was mad but couldn't ignore him. For the sake of the painting, she accepted his friend request but didn't say anything.
Alex, acting all casual, sent a message: [Why aren't you asleep yet?]
Katherine typed back: [What do you want?]
After about a minute, he replied: [Nothing.]
She couldn't cuss him out because of the painting. She asked patiently: [Where's the painting?]
Alex replied: [At home.]
Katherine asked: [How much will I buy it from you?]
Alex replied: [Not for sale.]
Katherine was getting annoyed and sent: [Then why did you add me?]
Alex replied: [I just want to add.]
Ignoring him, Katherine started watching videos. Suddenly, a video call popped up. She didn't notice and accidentally answered it.
The funny video she was watching turned into Alex's blank face.
Katherine instinctively wanted to hang up. But Alex, seeing her move, spoke first, "Don't hang up."
Katherine thought, 'No way!' Then she was about to end the video call.
Alex said, "Hang up and I'll burn the painting!"
Her hand froze, fingers trembling with anger. She took a deep breath, trying to calm down, and asked irritably, "What do you want with this video call?"
